America's Top Bourbon—According To The Beverage Testing Institute
Larceny Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Batch No. A125 was America's top-ranked bourbon at the 2025 Beverage Testing Institute (BevTest) bourbon judging. The whiskey scored 97/100 points and was awarded a Platinum Medal. Below is a background on the bourbon, as well as a detailed tasting note along with the official BevTest evaluation.
Larceny Barrel Proof is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. America's largest family-run spirit producer, the Larceny expressions continue a legacy rooted in the iconic 'Old Fitzgerald' mash bill lineage.
This expression is released three times annually—January, May, and September. Batch A125 is the January 2025 edition, with 'A' denoting the first release of the year, '1' for January, and '25' for the year.
The whiskey is based on the standard Larceny and Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond series mash bill of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. The 20% wheat in the mash bill classifies the whiskey as a 'wheated bourbon,' although there is no legal definition of a wheated bourbon from the TTB.
The whiskey does not carry an age statement but is believed to be aged between 6 and 8 years. It's bottled at cask strength, usually around 62.5% ABV or 125 proof. It's non-chill filtered and uncut, bottled straight from the cask, allowing bourbon enthusiasts to experience true barrel character.
The whiskey is a deep amber with a reddish glow, a rich hue typical of bourbons aged in warmer rickhouse locations.
On the nose, the whiskey features aromas of maple-glazed French toast, butterscotch/toffee, overripe orchard and tropical fruit, and seasoned oak. As the bourbon opens up, additional aromas of yeasty, tangy unbaked sourdough bread, cornmeal cake, and baking spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove emerge.
It's rich and smooth on the palate with a viscous mouth-coating quality and a pronounced mouth weight. It's remarkably well-balanced and silky for such a high-proof whiskey.
Flavor-wise, the bourbon opens with caramel and brown sugar, transitioning to ginger cookies, dried cherries, roasted nuts, and candied pecans, followed by fig preserves/jam, nougat, hints of cold smoke, and a pronounced barrel char.
As the whiskey evolves, notes of baked peach dusted with cinnamon, with a hint of allspice and cardamom, along with savory notes of cornbread and sourdough bread, emerge on the mid-palate. There is also a slight but persistent tanginess.
The finish is long and spicy and slightly candied, featuring lingering notes of cinnamon candy, pink bubblegum, caramel, baking spices—especially clove—and seasoned oak.
A few drops of water open the bourbon beautifully, bringing forward pronounced notes of sweetness from the wood sugars and caramel, and giving the whiskey an even silkier and rounder tasting experience.
The BevTest Judging Panel described the bourbon as featuring aromas of 'Rainier cherry, wood-grilled peach, and caramelized fig, along with flavors of baklava gelato, espresso pecan tart, and buttered broiled peaches. Bold, unique blend of coffee, sherry, and chocolate—a tsunami of flavor—a perfect Bourbon to sip and repeat neat.'
Larceny Barrel Proof Batch A125 is a remarkable expression of Heaven Hill's wheated heritage, capturing bold, concentrated layers of sweetness, spice, and oak in its purest, barrel-strength form. Its complex nose, rich mid-palate, and spicy, enduring finish make it an engaging sip, especially when a small amount of water is added to reveal nuance.
At a list price of $64, and often found on sale below $50, it's an exceptional value for what is one of America's top bourbons. Whether you're drawn to wheated bourbons or seeking a powerful yet balanced high-proof experience, Batch A125 stands out as both classic and compelling. Waymo expands lead over Tesla with launch of robotaxi services in new US cities: 'The team is testing across more than 10 cities this year'
With Tesla beginning testing of its robotaxi service this summer near the company headquarters in Texas, the current leader in that area, Waymo, is looking to extend its lead by opening service nearby in the Lone Star State. What's happening? According to Forbes, Waymo is planning to open autonomous driving services in Dallas starting next year. One of the many companies under the umbrella of Google's parent company, Alphabet, Waymo has been the industry leader in self-driving vehicles pretty much from the jump. Waymo currently operates fully in five cities: San Francisco, Atlanta, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Austin — the latter being where Tesla has debuted its public testing. The Google-affiliated company is also testing in another 10 cities, including New York City and Philadelphia. "The Waymo driver has now autonomously driven over 100 million miles on public roads, and the team is testing across more than 10 cities this year, including New York and Philadelphia," Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in July. "We hope to serve riders in all 10 in the future." Waymo is also testing in Washington, D.C.; Houston; Miami; San Antonio; San Diego; Nashville, Tennessee; Boston; and Tokyo. The company will partner with rental company Avis for maintenance and charging of its vehicles in Dallas. Why is Waymo's expansion important? Self-driving cars have long been touted as the next frontier in automotive advancement, and multiple companies are currently in the mix to get a foothold in that market. Volkswagen and Tesla are two of the biggest names trying to get a leg up, but everyone has a lot of catching up to do with Waymo. While Volkswagen isn't looking to take over the market and has opted to partner with municipalities in its quest to get a chunk of the robotaxi pie, Tesla has long been seen as Waymo's biggest competitor. However, Elon Musk's company has gotten off to a slow start with its program and is currently only cleared for testing in a limited section of Austin. Those tests have been progressing slowly, with a fair number of concerning incidents of near-misses in traffic. That said, Waymo has had its own safety issues at times in its development, including a recall earlier this year connected to glitches causing the detection to miss thin objects like chains and gates. That Waymo is continuing to grow while Tesla is still in its early stages is a troubling sign for the Musk-run EV manufacturer, but it's also important to note that Waymo got to market earlier — hitting the stage Tesla is in back in 2021 in San Francisco — and Tesla appears to be giving its engineering team time to get things right. What's being done about Waymo's growth? Musk and Tesla are betting big on their self-driving services, despite having a lot of ground to make up in the coming months and years. Would you feel safe driving an EV? Absolutely Depends on the model Not really I already have one Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. "Tesla is by far the best in the world at real-world AI," Musk said on its results call last week. "A clear proof point for that would be if you compare it to Waymo. Waymo's car is best with God knows how many sensors. Isn't Google good at AI? Yes. But they are not good at real-world AI. Tesla is much better than Google. By far." Despite Musk's confidence, it's clear Waymo has quite the head start, and that lead appears to be growing as it expands into new markets. TeraWulf signs 10-year 200 MW hosting deals, Google takes 8% stake
TeraWulf announced in a press release that it had signed two 10-year HPC colocation agreements with AI cloud platform Fluidstack, securing more than 200 MW of critical IT load at its Lake Mariner campus in Western New York. The agreements total ~$3.7 billion in contracted revenue and include two five‑year extension options that could lift total revenue to ~$8.7 billion. To support the buildout, Google will backstop $1.8 billion of Fluidstack's lease obligations tied to project financing and will receive warrants for ~41 million TeraWulf shares, or ~8% pro forma equity. Phase one of the deployment—about 40 MW—is expected online in the first half of 2026, with the full 200+ MW targeted by year‑end 2026. Enjoying the read? Get our newsletter directly to your inbox on all things Bitcoin-equities by clicking here. The contracts are structured as modified gross leases with annual escalators. TeraWulf projects site NOI margins of 85% (implying ~$315 million annually at full run‑rate) and estimates total project cost at $8–$10 million per MW. Fluidstack also obtained 30‑day exclusivity on Lake Mariner's CB‑5 expansion, adding a potential 160 MW of critical IT load.
