Families check out the City of Ottawa's fleet vehicles at annual expo

Families in Ottawa got a rare look inside some of the city's biggest and most intricate fleet vehicles in a unique twist on 'Doors Open Ottawa'. CTV's Camille W The City of Ottawa's annual Public Works Big Wheels Expo was held Saturday at the Ottawa Stadium. Kids and 'big kids' got to check out the City of Ottawa's front loaders, street sweepers, an interactive traffic signal display, and a hydraulic crane truck. 'This is a wonderful opportunity for our teams to showcase the work we do, the equipment we use for this work to our public. We love seeing all the kids and the families out here,' said Bryden Denyes, area manager for road services at City of Ottawa The event was part of Doors Open Ottawa, where the public is able to have a peak inside parts of the city that are often closed to the outside. 'It's great just to have somewhere to bring kids where they can bring some energy, learn some new things, touch everything, have new experiences. It's awesome. They can learn about what these vehicles do for the city as well,' said Britany Caron, attending with her son. The public even had an opportunity to climb into the driver's seat and check out the inside. 'Pretty fun. I did a lot of the switches, and I loved the buttons,' said Leo, who was having fun at the expo with his parents. The expo was there to show kids all the possibilities of what they can be in the future and hopefully broaden their imagination. Many children have miniature versions of these big rides at home but now get to see how big they really are. 'Our residents' families can come out and see a snowplow. They can see our forestry teams, what equipment they use for that, how we paint roads, how we pick up garbage,' said Denyes. City staff and support people were on site to explain how the work is done and to answer all their questions and provide information.

Denny Hamlin wins at Michigan for his 3rd NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) — Denny Hamlin outlasted the competition at Michigan International Speedway, winning his third NASCAR Cup Series race this season and the 57th of his career on Sunday. Hamlin, in the No. 11 Toyota, went low to pass William Byron on the 197th of 200 laps and pulled away from the pack. The 44-year-old was prepared to leave his team to join his fiancée, Jordan Fish, who is due to give birth to their third child, a boy. Hamlin said he would skip next week's race in Mexico City if necessary to witness the birth. He's also co-owner of 23XI Racing with Michael Jordan, which is involved in a lawsuit against NASCAR. Chris Buescher finished second, followed by Ty Gibbs, Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson. Pole-sitter Chase Briscoe was out front until Byron passed him on lap 12. Buescher pulled ahead on lap 36 and stayed up front to win his first stage this season. Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott took turns with the lead before a crash involving Alex Bowman brought out the red flag on lap 67. Byron took the lead again after a restart on lap 78 as part of his strong start and surged to the front again to win the second stage. Carson Hocevar took the lead on lap 152 and was informed soon thereafter that he didn't have enough fuel to finish, but that became moot because a flat tire forced him into the pits with 18 laps to go. Rough times for Bowman Bowman hit a wall with the front end of his No. 48 Chevrolet as part of a multi-car crash in his latest setback. 'That hurt a lot,' he said after passing a medical evaluation. Bowman, who drives for Hendrick Motorsports, came to Michigan 12th in points and will leave lower in the standings. He has finished 27th or worse in seven of his last nine starts and didn't finish for a third time during the tough stretch. Alex Bowman hits wall at Michigan as his rough stretch continues in NASCAR Cup Series

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) — Alex Bowman hit a wall with the front end of his No. 48 Chevrolet as part of a multi-car crash in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan on Sunday. Bowman got out of the car on his own and walked to an ambulance that transported him to the infield for an evaluation, which he passed. 'That hurt a lot,' he said. 'I've taken a lot of hits.' Austin Cindric's No. 2 Ford made contact with Cole Custer's No. 41 Ford and Daniel Suarez's No. 99 Chevrolet, leading to Bowman colliding with the wall on lap 67 of the 200-lap race. Bowman, who drives for Hendrick Motorsports, came to Michigan 12th in points and will drop in the standings after this latest setback. He has finished 27th or worse in seven of his last nine starts and didn't finish for a third time during the rough stretch. Bowman was in the top 10 in five of the first six races this year, including a runner-up finish at Homestead-Miami in March. He earned his eighth career Cup Series victory last year at Chicago.
