Meet actress, who murdered a friend, chopped him into 300 pieces, got intimate in front of dead body, was arrested by police with the help of...
In 2008, Bollywood's glossy façade cracked, revealing a dark, chilling tale that stunned the nation. At the centre of it was a rising Kannada actress, a jealous lover in uniform, and a casting director who vanished without a trace.
Maria Monica Susairaj had come to Mumbai chasing the dream—to go from South starlet to a known name in Hindi cinema. That's when she crossed paths with Neeraj Grover, a casting executive at Balaji Telefilms. Their professional bond quickly turned personal. Grover helped her network, offered her his flat, and eventually became more than just a friend.
But love in Maria's life was already spoken for — she was in a long-distance relationship with Navy Lieutenant Jerome Mathew. When Jerome sensed something more than friendship between Maria and Grover, suspicion began to brew. Jealousy turned deadly.
In May 2008, Jerome showed up unannounced in Mumbai. What he found in Maria's apartment — Neeraj Grover — lit the fuse. A violent confrontation followed. In a fit of rage, Jerome stabbed Neeraj to death, with Maria present. But the horror didn't end there.
The couple's actions after the murder defied comprehension. According to reports and the police investigation, the duo allegedly spent hours with the body, engaging in unspeakable acts. Later, they dismembered Grover's corpse into over 300 pieces, packed the remains in plastic bags, and drove out to burn them with petrol. All in a desperate attempt to erase the crime.
Neeraj's sudden disappearance set off alarms among his friends and family. Calls went unanswered. Police tracked his last known location — it led straight to Maria. As surveillance intensified, the investigators noticed an unusual call spike between Maria and Jerome following Neeraj's disappearance.
The breakthrough came from a tip — a watchman remembered seeing Maria and Jerome carrying suspicious bags out of the apartment. Confronted with evidence, Maria broke down and confessed.
The following trial became one of India's most watched true crime sagas. Jerome was sentenced to 10 years for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, while Maria received just 3 years for destroying evidence. The verdict stirred public outrage, especially given the brutality of the crime.
Maria Monica Susairaj walked free in 2011, having already served her time in custody.
Years later, the shadows of this case still linger — a haunting reminder that sometimes, real-life scripts are far more terrifying than anything written for the screen.

‘Cybercrimes threat to nation's economy': Court denies bail to farmer who provided mule accounts
Mumbai: Noting the serious nature of cybercrimes and their potential to undermine the nation's economy, a sessions court denied bail to a Bikaner farmer who allegedly arranged for bank accounts to park Rs 7.2 lakh conned out of a naval staffer threatened with digital arrest last year. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The court said if released on bail, the accused, Ugraram Godara, might commit similar offences. "The advocate for the accused vehemently argued that he received only Rs 22,500 [as commission]. More than the amount, the modus operandi holds weightage," the judge said. "He (Godara) took a day's commission [from each transaction] and handed over that amount to the key accused. This is a very serious cybercrime." Godara was arrested by Mumbai police on April 8. The complainant said he received a call from a person who claimed to be a representative of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Dec 24, 2024, and was told that his bank account was used to launder illicit funds abroad in a case linked to a politician. The Navy staffer said he then received a video call from a person posing as a Delhi police officer, who cited a pending arrest warrant and threatened to place him under digital arrest. The impersonator said the warrant could be cancelled if he transferred certain sums of money to specific bank accounts. The complainant complied and eventually transferred Rs 7.2 lakh in all. The prosecution alleged Godara provided mule bank accounts for commissions. As per the alleged modus operandi, another fraudster would contact targets and direct them to transfer money into these accounts. It was claimed Godara's driver, Shyamsunder Rahar, withdrew money from different ATMs, took his cut and handed the rest to him. The prosecution said Godara has been named in other cybercrime cases too. Godara's advocate said he was arrested merely on suspicion, adding that he has a young daughter, his wife has died, and his elderly father is dependent on him.

Hindi and Telugu actress Saiyami Kher, who will be seen reprising her role of agent Juhi in the second season of Neeraj Pandey's 'Special Ops', has once shared how she was advised to get lip fillers and a nose job done because people in the industry didn't find her face appropriate. Kher has faced criticism for not undergoing cosmetic procedures. Saiyami seems like a strong-headed actress who refused to undergo the knife. She said in an interview, 'Only on actresses? No, I feel it's actors, actresses – everyone. I feel if someone is not comfortable or happy with the way they look, and they are okay with doing something [to change that, by all means, they should do it if it's going to make them feel like a better, happier person. But you can't be so affected by what the world thinks—that's my opinion. Some people told me I needed to get a lip job done because my lips weren't full enough. They also said I should get a nose job.' Saiyami Kher will be seen in Special Ops 2 On donning an action-packed role, Saiyami at the show's trailer launch in Mumbai on Monday, June 16, said, 'For women, there are certain roles which people don't write and you wonder why. But even before Special Ops, what Neeraj sir did with Taapsee Pannu in Baby stood out for me. I hadn't seen anything like that in Indian cinema before. I love doing action. I love beating up guys. That's what women feel like on the inside when guys tease them on the streets. I'm just happy he gave me that opportunity.' Directed by Shivam Nair, 'Special Ops 2' also stars Kay Kay Menon, Prakash Raj, Vinay Pathak, Karan Tacker, Saiyami Kher, Muzammil Ibrahim, Gautami Kapoor, Parmeet Sethi, and Kali Prasad Mukherjee.
