Emmerdale's Charity Dingle star teases 'amazing' scenes as surrogacy plot 'implodes'

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Emmerdale's Charity Dingle actress Emma Atkins has shared all about the chaotic scenes ahead on the ITV soap after her character's latest lie amid a surrogacy storyline
Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle in Emmerdale, has revealed all on the "messy" storyline her character is now at the centre of. A twist on Thursday saw her outed as having cheated on her husband Mackenzie Boyd.

But it wasn't with her ex Vanessa Woodfield after a recent kiss, and instead we learned she had slept with another former flame. Ross Barton dropped the bombshell that he and Charity had slept together recently, sparking a DNA scandal.

It comes as Charity learned the was pregnant amid her offering to be a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and her partner Jacob Gallagher. Charity had undergone an embryo transfer prior to her dalliance with Ross, but believed it had not taken after she suffered bleeding.

This led to a devastated Charity hitting the bottle, and she soon ended up at Vanessa's home. But despite a kiss, nothing else happened as flashbacks revealed Vanessa kicked her out of the house, horrified by her actions.
The flashbacks revealed something else too though, and it's then that we saw Charity and Ross kissing. In present day Ross then asked Charity if the baby was his, confirming the pair had slept together that night.
Now Emma has revealed all on the huge twist and what it means for those involved in the storyline. She teased: "There's just so many avenues now of dilemma - she's stuck in this hellhole of what do I do next and who do I turn to and it's cataclysmic holding in that kind of secret.
"Surely at some point she's definitely going to implode. I think the audience enjoys witnessing that, don't they? They like to witness someone holding a secret.
"Who is she going to tell, who's going to find out, when will Ross cotton on fully? There's all of these things spinning through her mind." She promised "amazing" scenes ahead and revealed Charity is "such a mess" as a result of what she's done.

Emma revealed: "This has created a huge element of conflict for her and as an actor you can't hope for a better storyline. When you're just in the midst of chaos, dilemma and moral questioning of your own character.
"It makes you go, how are you going to get yourself out of this one? And I know the audience will just be like, oh my God, what will she do? Who can she tell? Because I think they all are going to immediately jump to the idea of, hang on then it's not Sarah and Jacob's baby.
"I think it is just a jaw dropping moment for those that have followed the storyline. Because it just ups the stakes with everything. Sarah's just got this desperate need to be a mum, Charity's so desperate to please Sarah in that, she feels her vocation is being this vessel to carry this child. There's so much at stake for them and the audience finding this out, is just that amazing moment. It's a good soap moment, a gift."
