Lokayukta raids ex-SP Joshi's house in probe linked to dismissed cop Ningappa
BENGALURU: Lokayukta police searched the house of their former Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru City Division-1) Srinath M Joshi, following the lead obtained in the ongoing investigation against dismissed head constable G Ningappa from Chitradurga district. Ningappa was arrested for allegedly collecting crores of rupees from several state government officials by leaking information of possible raids against them, after obtaining information from his 'sources' within the Karnataka Lokayukta. During a search conducted at the IPS officer's residence in southeast Bengaluru, Lokayukta police recovered Rs 32,000 in cash, a few gold ornaments and documents.
Police issued notice to Joshi to appear before them for inquiry, and Joshi is said to have sought 2-3 days time. The probe had revealed that Joshi was in constant touch with Ningappa, which was disclosed in the call details records. Joshi is said to have visited Ningappa's house in Chitradurga, where he was even felicitated, and Ningappa had also reportedly visited the IPS officer's house in Bengaluru.
Joshi was relieved as Lokayukta SP, Bengaluru City-1, last week. Sources in the Lokayukta stated that Joshi was relieved as he was to be sent back to his parent department. It was in keeping with his Joshi's request as he had completed three years in the institution.
Preliminary investigations had revealed that Ningappa had invested several crores of rupees in cryptocurrency in his own name, and that of his wife and certain IPS officers. He had invested Rs 4.19 crore in eight cryptocurrency exchange firms, and Lokayukta police are yet to obtain details of the money he invested in several other exchange firms.
Ningappa moves bail petition
Meanwhile, Ningappa applied for bail before the Special Court for Lokayukta Cases, which adjourned the hearing to June 19 to file objections, if any, while also handing over Ningappa to judicial custody till June 30. On the other hand, Ningappa's wife Chandrakala moved the high court, alleging that her husband's arrest was illegal.

Delay in reporting unaccounted money lands man in trouble as SC refuses protection from arrest
Reporting an unexplained deposit in a bank account months after it first appeared can put account holders in serious legal trouble — this was made clear by the Supreme Court on Monday when it dismissed a man's petition for anticipatory bail in a cyber fraud case. The petitioner, a resident of Shivnagar in Bihar's Nawada, was summoned by Delhi Police in connection with a cyber fraud conspiracy. He alleged his bank account was misused by his tenant, who hacked it under the pretext of online transfer of a small loan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 청담동 원장님이 말하는 "기미 잡티" 해결하는 법 두아이연구원 Undo Petitioner delayed approaching police by 4 months During the hearing, a bench of Justices Sandeep Mehta and P.B. Varale asked a key question — when the petitioner first noticed the deposit and when he chose to approach the police. The bench was told the deposit of Rs 20 lakh came into his account in September last year, but it was only in January — nearly four months later — that the petitioner informed the authorities. Live Events The judges held this delay against him and dismissed his bail application. The court also observed that the deposit was not a solitary transaction. Multiple transactions adding up to over Rs 5 crore flowed into his account in a single day from different sources across the country, and 13 cases were registered in connection with these transactions. Funds routed through account within hours Investigations revealed the amount was routed through his account and into at least three other accounts within hours. Delhi's cyber police registered the FIR under Section 318(4) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, following a complaint from a representative of Starcon Infra Projects India Pvt Ltd, alleging fraud. The petitioner insisted he was not involved in the fraud and was running a subsidised canteen for paramilitary forces with no criminal history. His lawyer argued that the transactions were made without his knowledge and consent. However, the Supreme Court dismissed these submissions and upheld the view that the delay in notifying authorities raised suspicion and called for further investigation into his role.

Sambhal MP deposits Rs 6 lakh as fine to electricity dept to restore supply
Sambhal: Sambhal Samajwadi Party MP, Ziaur Rahman Barq deposited Rs 6 lakh with the electricity department on Tuesday as directed by the High Court, paving the way for the restoration of power supply at his house. The case dates back to December 17, 2024, when a smart meter was installed at Barq's residence in Sambhal's Deepa Sarai area. Two days later, on December 19, the electricity department conducted a load inspection and subsequently alleged that Barq was involved in electricity theft. Following the inspection, officials claimed that Barq's residence was consuming over 16 kilowatts of electricity, well beyond the sanctioned limit. An Meter Reading Instrument test also reportedly indicated zero consumption for several months, prompting the department to impose a hefty fine of Rs 1.91 crore and register a formal case of electricity theft. Despite repeated notices, officials said Barq failed to respond, prompting him to approach the High Court. On June 3, the High Court ordered that the MP must first deposit Rs 6 lakh as an interim measure, after which the electricity connection should be restored. Complying with the court's order, Barq's advocate, Farid Ahmed, reached the powerhouse on Tuesday and submitted a demand draft of Rs 6 lakh, along with an application requesting immediate restoration of the electricity supply. Speaking on the matter, advocate Farid Ahmed said, "The court had directed us to deposit Rs 6 lakh first to get the connection restored. We have submitted that today and hope the power supply will resume soon." Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department, Naveen Gautam, said, "Action was taken based on a complaint of power theft at the MP's premises. Today, a demand draft of Rs 6 lakh has been deposited as per the court's direction. His power connection is being restored today itself." The High Court is now scheduled to hear the matter on July 2, where the legality of the fine and other related issues will be examined. Meanwhile, Barq has maintained that he was not given an adequate opportunity to present his side of the story.

Faridabad senior citizen duped of Rs 25 lakh in IPO cyber fraud, 3 held
The Faridabad cybercrime police Tuesday arrested three men from Gujarat in connection with a sophisticated online fraud involving Rs 25.35 lakh perpetrated under the guise of initial public offering (IPO) investments. The accused have been identified as Jilraj, 19, from Vartej in Bhavnagar, Gujarat; Bhavesh Bhai Longadiya, 22, from Alanagar in Bhavnagar; and Divyraj Manhar Bhai Langabadra from Botad. The trio allegedly facilitated the scam by providing bank accounts used to siphon off the victim's money. According to a police spokesperson, the case came to light after Deepak Mehta, 73, a resident of Sector-19, Faridabad, lodged a complaint with the central cyber police station. The complainant alleged that he was lured into the scam through a WhatsApp message offering discounted IPO share subscriptions under the name 'HDFC Securities'. He was subsequently added to a WhatsApp group named 'HDFC Securities Official', where regular updates on stocks and IPO investments were shared to gain his trust, as per the complaint. The victim was then allegedly directed to open an account on an app called 'HDFC VIP' for IPO investments. Over time, he allegedly invested Rs 25,35,322 through multiple transactions, acting on instructions and with the belief that the money was being used to buy heavily discounted shares in the IPOs of companies like Ola Electric. However, when he attempted to withdraw his funds, he was unable to do so. Realising he had been duped, he complained to the police. The police filed a case under relevant sections for cheating and fraud. During interrogation, the police discovered that Jilraj had opened a bank account in the name of Udit and transferred it to Divyraj, who then handed it over to Bhavesh. Bhavesh then allegedly provided the account to the fraudsters orchestrating the scam. The police said Jilraj is a graduate, Divyraj completed Class 12, and Bhavesh is pursuing a BSc degree. The primary account holder, Kuldeep, allegedly received Rs 1.5 lakh of the defrauded amount. Kuldeep, along with Udit and Varun, were arrested earlier in the investigation. The three newly arrested accused were produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody.
