Eight luxury vehicles among 25 seized in Terengganu RTD Aidiladha ops
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) seized 25 vehicles, including eight luxury cars and a cargo lorry, during the Hari Raya Aidiladha Special Operation (Ops Khas HRAA) 2025 conducted here last night.
Terengganu RTD director Mohd Zamri Samion said the vehicles were seized for various offences, including expired driving and motor vehicle licences, lack of insurance coverage, and multiple technical violations.
Zamri said his team also seized a cargo lorry transporting a nitrogen-filled container due to the use of unsafe tyres during the two-day operation, which began on Wednesday.
The vehicle, driven by a man in his 30s, was stopped at Kampung Padang Nenas, Kuala Nerus, at 7.20am on Thursday while travelling from Paka, Dungun to Tok Bali, Kelantan.
"Checks revealed that seven of the vehicle's tyres were deemed unsafe as their treads were excessively worn out, with some tyres torn or punctured," he said.
"This time, we also seized eight luxury vehicles, including a Hummer, Peugeot, Land Rover, and high-powered motorcycles, for technical offences, expired licences and failure to renew insurance and motor vehicle licences," he said.
Mohd Zamri added that the department views technical violations seriously, particularly involving commercial vehicles and unsafe tyres.
The week-long operation from Wednesday to next Tuesday aims to ensure smooth and safer traffic flow during the festive season, in line with the slogan "Drive Safe, Arrive Safe."
"We are also taking motorcyclist offences seriously, especially not wearing helmets and running red lights, which recorded the highest number of offences during the first two days."
As with previous operations, enforcement on the seven scheduled offences remains a priority to help reduce road crashes and fatalities throughout the period.
"These include speeding, disobeying traffic signals, overtaking on double lines, driving on the emergency lane, reckless overtaking, queue-cutting, and using mobile phones while driving," he said.
During the first two days of the operation, a total of 6,006 vehicles were inspected, with enforcement action taken against 529 of them for various violations.
A total of 746 summonses and 370 other notices were issued, covering 1,052 offences.

KOTA BHARU — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has opened an investigation paper against the lorry company involved in the fatal accident which took the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in Teluk Intan, Perak, last month. JPJ senior director (enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the investigation was being conducted under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. 'JPJ has seized the lorry involved, and the investigating officer has been instructed to complete the investigation paper by the end of this month. 'Once completed, the investigation paper will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,' he told reporters after observing the Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha here last night. He said the initial investigation found that there was a violation of permit conditions involving the lorry company. 'The lorry company was found to have violated the permit conditions by carrying an unauthorised load, namely stones, while the permit approved was to transport coal. 'We are still investigating the case and appropriate action will be taken,' he said. On May 12, a lorry driven by a man collided with a truck carrying 18 FRU members on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampan, Teluk Intan, while they were on their way back to Ipoh.
