AI a ‘real threat' to entry level jobs; GenZ workers in danger? Here's what LinkedIn executive says

Artificial intelligence may pose a significant threat to millions of students who are getting ready to graduate this year, according to LinkedIn's chief economic opportunity officer, Aneesh Raman.
In an article written for the New York Times, Raman likened today's situation to that of the decline of the manufacturing sector in the 1980s, which saw a steep fall.
Raman said in the NYT op-ed that office workers now are in a similar kind of situation amid technological and economic disruption.
'Now it is our office workers who are staring down the same kind of technological and economic disruption,' he wrote.
The bottom rung of the career ladder, that is the entry level employees, will be the first ones to break.
'Breaking first is the bottom rung of the career ladder,' Raman wrote.
The LinkedIn executive said artificial intelligence poses a real threat to a number of entry level jobs, that serve as the stepping stone for GenZ workers to launch their careers.
'There are growing signs that artificial intelligence poses a real threat to a substantial number of the jobs that normally serve as the first step for each new generation of young workers,' as per Raman.
The pressures of sinking numbers of jobs are only being accelerated by uncertainty in the economy due to tariffs, as global trade woes persist at a time when millions of GenZ students are trying to enter the work force.
'Uncertainty around tariffs and global trade is likely to only accelerate that pressure, just as millions of 2025 graduates enter the work force,' the LinkedIn executive wrote in his op-ed.
Raman cited LinkedIn's latest employment figures to say that the changes in hiring behaviour is coinciding with a shift in the numbers. As per LinkedIn's Workforce Confidence Index, which has hit new lows amid general uncertainty, shows that GenZ is the most pessimistic about jobs than any other group.
In one of LinkedIn's recent surveys, over 3,000 or executives at the vice president level or higher agreed that AI will eventually replace some of the mundane tasks, that are typically done by entry-level workers.
'Virtually all jobs will experience some impacts, but office jobs are expected to feel the biggest crunch,' Raman said.
In almost all sectors, including IT , law and retail, entry-level employees will see a reduction in jobs as AI can do their tasks more efficiently in a lesser amount of time.

H&M owners quietly buying its shares

Hennes & Mauritz (H&M), the fast-fashion retailer that's been listed on the Swedish stock market since 1974, is steadily moving back towards private ownership. The founding family has stepped up purchases of H&M shares, spending more than $6.6 billion since 2016 to amass nearly two-thirds control and fuelling speculation it could take the Stockholm-based company back into private hands - despite denials from family members. The Perssons, one of Sweden's wealthiest families, has ramped up insider buying by reinvesting dividends, boosting its H&M stake to almost 64% from 35.5% over the past nine years through a holding company Ramsbury Invest, saying little about their intentions other than that they "believe" in H&M, founded in 1947 by Erling Persson. AP will lead India's AI revolution: Naidu

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said the State was taking several bold steps to lead the Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution in India. The Chief Minister was referring to the state government's partnership with global chip giant Nvidia Corporation signed on Friday. "Under the leadership of IT Minister Nara Lokesh, we have entered into an MoU with Nvidia to build a strong and inclusive AI ecosystem in the state," said Naidu in a post on 'X'. On Friday, the Andhra Pradesh government and Nvidia signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly advance the establishment of a proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) university in the state and foster a robust ecosystem through skilling, research, infrastructure development, and startup acceleration. With support from Nvidia for curriculum and training, 10,000 engineering students will receive skill training over the next two years, he said, adding that 500 AI startups from Andhra Pradesh will gain access to Nvidia's 'Inception Program' for global exposure and key resources. Further, plans are underway to establish India's first AI University in collaboration with Nvidia for shaping the infrastructure and research capabilities, said the Chief Minister. From education and skilling to research and innovation, this initiative is laying the foundation for a Swarna Andhra Pradesh, Naidu added.
