Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already arrived in Digha, where a large yajna is scheduled for Tuesday, ahead of the 'Pran Pratishtha' (consecration ceremony) on April 30
The political climate in West Bengal is heating up as the grand inauguration of the Jagannath Temple in Digha approaches.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already arrived in Digha, where a large yajna (sacred ritual) is scheduled for Tuesday, ahead of the 'Pran Pratishtha' (consecration ceremony) on April 30.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is promoting the event as a major spiritual and cultural milestone. The state government plans to broadcast the inauguration across all blocks in West Bengal through LED screens, highlighting the significance of the ceremony. Digha is being heavily decorated, with arrangements made for thousands of attendees.

A massive yajna will begin on April 29, with Banerjee expected to participate and offer the 'Purnahuti' (final offering) in the evening.
On April 30, the rituals will continue with an Abhishek (ceremonial bathing of the deity), dressing of Lord Jagannath, followed by the Pran Pratishtha and the official opening of the temple.
Cultural performances, including a special act by Dona Ganguly and her troupe, are also scheduled as part of the celebrations.
Banerjee said, 'The yajna begins tomorrow. This Jagannath Dham will be a jewel in Digha's crown. On one hand, it's a spiritual milestone; on the other, it boosts tourism. Digha is set to become a destination for international tourism. This is an emotional moment for all of us."
'নাথ, তুমি এসো ধীরেসুখ-দুখ-হাসি-নয়ননীরে,লহো আমার জীবন ঘিরে–সংসারে সব কাজে ধ্যানে জ্ঞানে হৃদয়ে রহো॥"As we approach the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple in Digha, the sacred rituals are being performed with reverence.

BJP PLANS PARALLEL RELIGIOUS AND POLITICAL EVENTS
Not to be left behind, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also announced major religious events on the same day in a clear bid to counter the TMC's narrative.
BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar has declared that he will perform puja at a temple in Murshidabad that was damaged during recent violence. He said, 'We will repair the temple and conduct puja on 30 April. I will personally be there. Mamata Banerjee is anti-Hindu — Murshidabad is a clear example of that."
As pledged earlier, on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, i.e. on 30th April, 2025 we will start the rebuilding and restoration process of the vandalised Hindu Temples of the Murshidabad district, which came under the heinous, reprehensible and disgraceful attack by the… pic.twitter.com/baoElPbeEI — Suvendu Adhikari (@SuvenduWB) April 28, 2025
Suvendu Adhikari has called for a Sanatani Rally in Kanthi, East Midnapore, also scheduled for 30 April.
In a strong statement on social media, Adhikari said: 'As promised, on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, 30 April 2025, we will begin rebuilding and renovating the Hindu temples in Murshidabad that were damaged in jihadist attacks. These temples, bearing marks of barbaric violence, will undergo purification and reformation through traditional rituals. No financial aid will be taken from the anti-Hindu Mamata Banerjee government. All costs will be borne by the Hindu community."
He also warned that if non-Hindus are allowed into the Jagannath Temple during its inauguration, the BJP will raise the issue publicly.

Political analyst Sambit Pal said, 'The Left may call it competitive Hindutva politics, but I see it as a complementary Hindutva narrative. One party is trying to escape its pro-minority image and another is trying to make their Hindutva agenda stronger."
As both the TMC and BJP gear up for significant religious events, the day is expected to carry not just spiritual, but high political significance in West Bengal. While the TMC seeks to align itself with cultural and religious pride through the Jagannath Temple, the BJP is mobilising support in other districts to assert its own Hindutva narrative.

Row erupts in Bengal over vandalism at Tagore's ancestral house in Bangladesh
A political row has erupted in West Bengal over the reported vandalism at an ancestral house of Rabindranath Tagore located in Sirajganj, Bangladesh, with both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raising the matter publicly. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on June 12 wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to 'take up the matter very strongly with the neighbouring country's government, so that no stone is left unturned to swiftly bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous and mindless act'. Observing that Rabindranath Tagore is renowned not only in West Bengal but across the globe, Ms. Banerjee wrote that what was damaged was not merely a building but a 'towering fountain of creativity' in the subcontinent. Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore is not just Bengal's pride- He is a towering figure of global civilization. The shocking vandalism of Kobiguru's ancestral home in Sirajganj, Bangladesh is an act of sheer barbarism that has deeply wounded the sentiments of millions. This is not… — Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) June 12, 2025 'Although untold damage has already been done, a strong international protest would at least deter in future any attack on monuments of cultural legacies that have withstood steadfastly all tests of time,' the Trinamool Congress chairperson stated. The Chief Minister's letter came a day after the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, raised the issue during an address at a religious event in Kolkata. 'The attack on Kachari Bari is not just an assault on a building; it's an attack on our shared heritage, our identity, and our values. For Hindus in West Bengal, this serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance in protecting our cultural heritage, especially in demographically volatile regions,' Mr. Adhikari said. Sharing video footage of the vandalism, the BJP leader used the incident to appeal for 'unity of Hindus' in West Bengal and reiterated that the 'vandalism serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance in protecting our cultural heritage, especially in demographically volatile regions'. Mr. Adhikari further accused the Trinamool Congress of replicating the 'rampage of Radical Islamist Forces' and called for a political course correction in the 2026 Assembly elections. The BJP leadership in West Bengal has repeatedly flagged attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, particularly following the change in regime after the fall of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government in 2024. The Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement issued on June 12, 'strongly' condemned the vandalism. The official spokesperson said the incident was part of a 'broad pattern' of assaults on the pluralist culture of Bangladesh. In response, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the people of Bangladesh hold Rabindranath Tagore in the 'highest esteem' and that the government had acted promptly following the incident at the government-maintained heritage property. The Kachharibari, located in Shahzadpur in the Rajshahi division, served historically as the Tagore family's revenue office and residence. It was purchased by Rabindranath Tagore's grandfather, Dwarakanath Tagore, in 1840.

Madhya Pradesh: HM Shah, Rajnath Singh to lead legislators' training camp
Bhopal: Pachmarhi, the scenic hill station in the Satpura range of Madhya Pradesh, is set to host a high-level three-day training camp for the state's BJP lawmakers and ministers from June 14 to 16. The event, designed to sharpen political strategy and reinforce ideological grounding, will bring together 201 elected representatives, including all MPs, MLAs (legislators), and state Cabinet members. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the camp on June 14 at 3 p.m., while Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to deliver the valedictory address on June 16. The sessions will be held under a specially erected dome at the Glen View Hotel premises, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and state BJP President V.D. Sharma attending all sessions. 'The camp will feature a mix of theoretical and practical modules, covering the BJP's evolution from the Jan Sangh era to its current national prominence. The inaugural session will see Union Home Minister Amit Shah reflect on this journey, while subsequent sessions will delve into party discipline, public communication, digital outreach, and constituency management,' state party president V.D. Sharma said, adding: 'Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will deliver valedictory session on 16 June.' Senior leaders including B.L. Santhosh, Shiv Prakash, C.R. Patil, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Savitri Thakur, L. Murugan, and Vinod Tawde will lead discussions. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will remain present during all the three days. He will also make a presentation on Developed MP 2047: Opportunities and Challenges. A unique feature of the camp is the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, under which all participants will plant saplings, symbolising environmental commitment and personal responsibility. An exhibition tracing the BJP's organisational milestones and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 11 years in office will also be on display. The training comes at a time when the Madhya Pradesh government is expanding its flagship 'Ladli Behna Yojana". Chief Minister Yadav recently announced a Rs 5,000 monthly wage incentive for women working in the textile and garment sectors, supplementing the existing Rs 1,250 monthly support. This initiative, aligned with the Centre's 2024 textile policy, aims to boost women's economic participation and is part of a broader vision to take per capita income to Rs 22 lakh by 2047. As the BJP gears up for future electoral and governance challenges, the Pachmarhi camp is being seen as both a strategic reset and a reaffirmation of the party's ideological and developmental roadmap. The sessions are expected to reinforce discipline, refine messaging, and prepare leaders for the road ahead. Pachmarhi is also known as the summer capital of Madhya Pradesh.
