Penn State wrestling news: When can it break the nation's longest win streak?
This comes as coach Cael Sanderson's No. 1 Nittany Lions have been putting on a stunning show since November: They're producing another undefeated season (12-0 and counting) ... are outscoring opponents by an incredulous 493-37 margin ... and doing it with an entire starting lineup ranked in the nation's Top 10.
And yet this is season is just a part of their march toward crushing one of the longest-held college wrestling records.
The Nittany Lions have won 68 straight dual meets − including weekend dominations of Michigan and Maryland − and will be prohibitive favorites in their final three this season. They haven't lost a meet in five years, since before COVID.
They currently own the fifth-best winning streak in Division I and major college men's history. (Grand View, an NAIA school in Iowa, owns the top all-time college win streak at 117).
Winning-out this season would jump them to No. 2 in major college history, passing 69-win runs by Oklahoma State (1921 to 1932, 1996 to 1999) and Iowa (2007 to 2011).
History would then await at 76 consecutive victories. The Oklahoma State Cowboys accomplished the feat from 1937 to 1951, before college wrestling was divided into divisions.
Penn State could end this season with 71 straight dual meet victories.
So when could it tie the record of 76 and break it?
That's still to be determined.
For perspective, Penn State won its fifth dual meet of this season before the end of December, during the middle of the Journeyman Duals in Tennessee.

A similar situation could arise next season, particularly if Sanderson and Penn State agree to attend the 16-team National Duals Invitational at Oklahoma State in November.
Beyond that?
It will be difficult to know exactly when or who the Lions could make history against for quite a while. Penn State does not usually release its finalized schedule until late September or early October, less than two months before the season begins.

Penn State's 68 consecutive dual meet victories is sixth among all college divisions. The list is below:
117 − Grand View, NAIA (2013-22)
92 − SUNY Dehli, NJCAA (1979-83)
77 − St. Cloud State, Division II (2017-22)
76 − Oklahoma State, Division I and Major College (1937-51)
75 − Oklahoma City, Women's (2008-12)
68 − Penn State, Division I (2020-25)

Meet the 10 members of the 2025 United States Walker Cup team
The roster for the 2025 United States Walker Cup team is set. Following the conclusion of the 125th U.S. Amateur on Sunday, the U.S. Golf Association's International Team Selection working group and captain Nathan Smith announced the final selections to represent the American team in the 50th Walker Cup at Cypress Point Club in California from Sept. 6-7. Five players were previously announced, with the last five players earning their spot on the team after the U.S. Amateur The Walker Cup is a 10-man amateur team competition between the U.S. and Great Britain and Ireland. Cypress Point has hosted one previous Walker Cup in 1981, a 15-9 victory for the United States. The U.S. leads the all-time series 39-9-1 and will likely be a heavy favorite at Cypress Point. Meet the 10 members of the 2025 U.S. Walker Cup team. Jackson Koivun The top-ranked amateur in the world made the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur and has been playing well with three top-11 finishes or better on the PGA Tour this summer. Ben James James, ranked second in the world, also made the Round of 32 at Olympic Club before losing to Mason Howell, the eventual champion at the U.S. Amateur. This will be James' second Walker Cup. Michael La Sasso La Sasso, ranked eighth in the world, essentially clinched his spot on the team after winning the 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championship individual title, capping off a stellar junior season at Ole Miss. Preston Stout Stout has had a stellar 2025, winning the Northeast Amateur by eight shots and then making the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur after winning medalist honors. He's one of two Oklahoma State players on the team, most of any college. Ethan Fang Fang, a fellow Oklahoma State Cowboy, won the British Amateur earlier this summer at Royal St. George's and made the match-play final at the Western Amateur. He's ranked third in the world. Tommy Morrison Morrison, ranked sixth in the world and towering at 6-foot-8, is a former European Amateur Champion, made match play at the Western Am and lost in the Round of 64 this week to eventual champion/runner-up Howell. Jase Summy Summy, seventh in WAGR, beat Fang in the Western Amateur final to essentially lock up his spot on the Walker Cup team. He made the Round of 32 this week at Olympic Club. Stewart Hagestad The 34-year-old Mid-Amateur will play on his fifth consecutive Walker Cup team, holding a record of 8-6-1 in his appearances and having never lost to GB&I. He and James are the only returners from the 2023 team. Mason Howell The winner of the U.S. Amateur gets an automatic Walker Cup spot if they're not already on the team, so Howell earned his way to Cypress Point after claiming the Havemeyer Trophy at Olympic Club on Sunday. Jacob Modleski Modleski, on the bubble the entire summer, earned his way on the team with a strong week at the Western Amateur (semifinalist) and U.S. Amateur (quarterfinalist).

Penn State names team captains for 2025 season
Much has been made about Penn State's team leaders helping to create the winning culture of the program. As the Nittany Lions prepare for the start of a highly anticipated 2025 season, the official team leaders for this year's roster have been formally announced. Penn State announced the team captains for this year's season with five players set to lead the team this fall. Quarterback Drew Allar, defensive tackle Zane Durant, linebacker Dominic DeLuca, offensive lineman Nick Dawkins, and long snapper Tyler Duzansky were each named a team captain for the 2025 Nittany Lions. Allar, Dawkins, and DeLuca were each named captains for the 2024 season as well. This is the third straight season DeLuca will serve as a team captain. Penn State is coming off a season with an 11-1 regular season record and an appearance in the Big Ten championship game. The Nittany Lions were seeded in the College Football Playoff and won a home game against SMU in the first round and then defeated Mountain West Conference champion Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl before losing to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinal in the Orange Bowl. Penn State was ranked third in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and second in the preseason AP Top 25. Many of the early bowl projections for the upcoming season predict another deep playoff run for Penn State, with a spot in the Rose Bowl a common preseason prediction to start the playoff. Penn State's season kicks off with a home game against Nevada on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. You can see the full Penn State schedule here. 2025 Big Ten football favorite is not clear or unanimous
The Big Ten has in recent years been the best conference in college football. Ohio State enters this season with loads of NFL talent including safety Caleb Downs and arguably the best player in college football, receiver Jeremiah Smith. The drawback with Ohio State is the uncertainty at the quarterback position; the USC Trojans might have them beat in that category. Penn State enters this season with a fierce defense, a dominant run game, and a top quarterback in college football with Drew Allar. Penn State has the more well-rounded team, but Ohio State's talent and coach Ryan Day make the Buckeyes a tough matchup for any team they could face. With Ohio State coming off a national championship victory and Penn State being more improved, the Big Ten football season is extremely hard to predict for experts. Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports analyzes the uncertainty surrounding who will be the Big Ten champion in a recent feature. "One notable swap from the Coaches Poll finds a change atop the Big Ten. Coaches went with Ohio State, the defending national champions, at No. 2 behind the Longhorns; the media went with Penn State, believing in the Nittany Lions' clearer situation on offense and greater degree of carryover from last season. The Nittany Lions received 23 first-place votes in the AP poll - just two behind Texas. Another advantage for PSU is the addition of former OSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Clearly, coaches and the media believe both teams are good enough to win the Big Ten and deliver the league's third national championship in a row." Both teams have what it takes to win the Big Ten crown. It is easy to assume that both teams will make the College Football Playoff. With the Trojans' luck, they do not have to face either team. Uncertainty at the top of the Big Ten could bode well for the Trojans; they are coming into this season with a lot of doubts about how successful they will be. If the Trojans can take care of business in conference play and beat rival Oregon -- their toughest Big Ten matchup on the schedule -- they could earn a bid to face one of the Big Ten juggernauts in the Big Ten title game. USC could also solidify itself as a playoff team. There is no doubt the USC Trojans have a lot of talent on the roster this season, but there is just as much uncertainty regarding where they finish.
