Every West Virginia monster festival in 2025
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Cryptid festivals are a staple in West Virginia and are some of the most well-attended events throughout the year; if you have a favorite West Virginia monster, it probably has its own special day.
If you want to get a taste of West Virginia's mysterious side in 2025, here's a list of all the biggest cryptid festivals in West Virginia this year:
The Grafton Monster Festival will be holding its second-ever event this year to celebrate West Virginia's most amorphous cryptid. In its first year, the festival had numerous vendors, a cryptid cosplay contest and a Grafton Monster calling contest.
The festival begins on Friday, June 13 at 5 p.m. in downtown Grafton, and you can find the latest details and announcements on the festival on the official Grafton Monster Festival Facebook page.
Another new addition to the West Virginia cryptid festival circuit is Veggie Man Day, held at the Frank & Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University. Though smaller than most other cryptid festivals in the state, attendees will be able to peruse several different cryptid and paranormal-oriented artists and listen to different guest lectures throughout the day.
The event will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but if you've never even heard of Veggie Man, you can read all about its legend here.
What is the Vegetable Man of West Virginia?
The West Virginia Bigfoot Festival is one of the largest cryptid festivals in West Virginia and is organized each year by the West Virginia Bigfoot Museum. The three-day event will have plenty of food trucks, vendors and live music, and is a great time to check out the Bigfoot museum if you haven't already.
This year's festival will be held at Holly-Gray Park between Flatwoods and Sutton in Braxton County. You can find the most recent updates to festival plans at the official event page on Facebook.
Although not technically a cryptid, Lurch Fest is a celebration of Addams Family actor and Philippi native Ted Cassidy, who plays Lurch in the 1960s sitcom. The festival has been previously attended by Cassidy's son Sean, as well as Christofer Cook, a Ted Cassidy biographer.
The event will be held outside the Barbour County Historical Museum from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.
The Flatwoods Monster Convention will be returning to Braxton County on Sept. 13. at the Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Flatwoods. This year's convention will have a costume contest, a Flatwoods Monster photo op and guest speakers.
Admission for the convention is $10 and will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. VIP tickets to the event on Sept. 12 are also available.
The 3 most famous artworks inspired by West Virginia's Mothman cryptid
The West Virginia cryptid calendar will end in a bang with its largest event, the annual Mothman Festival held in Point Pleasant. The event is attended by thousands of people each year who visit the town from across the country. Besides checking out the Mothman Museum, visitors can look forward to dozens of vendors, guest speakers, bus tours of the nearby TNT plant, live music and more.
Mothman is easily the state's most popular cryptid, being the subject of two different movies (one of which was never released), a museum, a brick set, a variety of potato chips, a minigolf course and an escape room, along with much more.
This year's Mothman Festival will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 in downtown Point Pleasant. You can find more information at the festival's event page here.

Lady Gaga Channels Wednesday Addams' Gothic Glam in New ‘Abracadabra' Performance
Lady Gaga delivered a blast of glammed-up gothic horror with her performance of 'Abracadabra' at Netflix's Tudum live event this past weekend in Los Angeles. Gaga took the stage for an eight-minute performance, and right after, Netflix shared the first six minutes of the long-awaited new season of Wednesday. To match the Addams Family mood, Gaga performed a special three-song set of horror-tinged tunes starting with Mayhem's 'Zombieboy' before going into her Born This Way favorite, 'Bloody Mary.' The performance ends with Gaga returning to a coffin alongside the beloved disembodied hand, Thing, as the Addams Family theme plays. Along with her performance, Gaga was able to finally share some new details about her cameo role in Season Two of Wednesday. She's set to play Rosaline Rotwood, described as a 'legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday' at some point during the second half of the season. Wednesday Season Two is set to premiere on Sept. 3. Gaga released her most recent album, Mayhem, back in March, marking her first proper album of all new material since 2020's Chromatica. (Though in between, she released several projects, including a second collaboration with Tony Bennett and a companion album for Joker: Folie à Deux.) Gaga has since taken the album on the road, headlining Coachella, playing shows in Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, and Singapore, and prepping for the North American leg of her tour, which kicks off July 16 in Las Vegas. Netflix drama Adolescence set to become the streamer's second most-watched English-language show, beating out Stranger Things season 4
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Adolescence looks set to become Netflix's second most-watched English-language show of all time, beating out Stranger Things season 4. In the 76 days it's been available to stream so far, the West Yorkshire-based crime drama has pulled in 140.2 million views. 'Premiere windows' tend to be considered 91 days from release date, in which time Stranger Things' fourth chapter earned 140.7 million views. It's almost certain, then, that Adolescence will rack up the extra 500,000 views needed to surpass the hit sci-fi horror in two weeks. Despite its huge success, the show is unlikely to nab the top spot, which is currently occupied by Addams Family spin-off Wednesday, having pulled in a whopping 252 million views during its premiere window. In comparison, South Korean thriller Squid Game season 1 got 265 million views in the same time frame. Starring Ashley Waters, Erin Doherty, Owen Cooper, and Stephen Graham, Adolescence opens with 13-year-old Jamie being arrested for the murder of his classmate Katie Leonard. Over the course of four episodes, all of which play out in real time, viewers not only learn whether Jamie did what he's being accused of but what happened in the run-up to the violent attack and how his family are coping with the fallout. On March 31, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced plans to make the series free to watch in secondary schools, in a bid to spark conversations and raise awareness about online safety, toxic masculinity, and bullying. "There isn't an obvious policy response which will answer all of these questions", he told BBC political editor Chris Mason. "It's much broader than that. It's a cultural issue, and therefore we're going to have to look more broadly, work as a society on this, and discuss it." Adolescence is streaming now. Jenna Ortega Is Getting Two New ‘Wednesday' Action Figures
Jenna Ortega in "Wednesday" Season 2. Netflix Jenna Ortega is being shrunk into two different Wednesday Addams action figures heading into Netflix's Wednesday Season 2. Ortega's career, of course, shot into the stratosphere with her role as the iconic Addams Family teen with the release of the first season of Wednesday in 2022. Since then, Wednesday — created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and executive produced and directed by Tim Burton — has gone on to become the most-streamed series in Netflix's history with 252.1 million views, which equates to nearly 1.719 billion hours viewed. Now, ahead of the scheduled debut on Wednesday Season 2 in August, toy and collectibles company NECA is releasing new action figures from the series. In a post on the company's Facebook page over the weekend, NECA pictured three 8-inch scale retro-style action figures with cloth outfits from Wednesday. Two of the figures are of Ortega's Wednesday Addams while the third is of Wednesday's roommate Enid Sinclair (Emma Meyers). One of the figures features Wednesday wearing her trademark black-and-white polka-dot dress with the disembodied hand, Thing, on her shoulder, while the other figure is of Wednesday wearing her Nevermore Academy uniform. The Enid figure also features the character wearing her Nevermore uniform. Since NECA tends to include character accessories with its action figure releases, more will surely be revealed when the figures go on sale on NECA's retail site on Wednesday (naturally). The release date of the new action figures has not yet been announced. NECA previously released a cartoonish Toony Terrors figure of her character, Astrid, along with her mother, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) as part of the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice line, which also featured figures of Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) and Dante's Inferno playset from the first Beetlejuice movie. Other Wednesday dolls and action figures have previously been released by such toys and collectibles companies as Mattel and Mezco. Right now, the NECA Wednesday action figures of Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair are only partially pictured in NECA's Facebook post, which you can see below. The upcoming second season of Wednesday wrapped up Netflix TUDUM 2025 on Saturday, which highlighted several of the streaming platforms upcoming original films and TV series, including director Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, Rian Johnson's Wake Up, Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and Stranger Things Season 5. Jenna Ortega was on hand with some of the Wednesday Season 2 castmates to help introduce the first six minutes of Episode 1 the upcoming season, which is titled, Here We Woe Again. In the opening, Wednesday recounts her summer break before returning to Nevermore Academy, which included a harrowing encounter with a creepy serial killer named Chet (Haley Joel Osment). The scene also included the previously released footage of Wednesday relinquishing a batch of twisted tools at an airport security checkpoint. In addition to the scene, Netflix officially revealed Lady Gaga's character as Rosaline Rotwood, a former Nevermore teacher whom Wednesday encounters. Netflix TUDUM 2025 wrapped up with an elaborately staged trio of songs by Lady Gaga that included "Zombieboy," "Bloody Mary" and "Abracadabra.' Wednesday Season 2 will be released in two parts that consist of four episodes each. Wednesday Season 1, Part 1 will premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and Part 2 arrives on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
