Bilawal-led delegation in US to brief Pakistan's stance on Indian aggression

A high-level parliamentary delegation led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reached United States to represent Pakistan's position on the recent conflict with India, Express News reported on Sunday.
The high-level diplomatic visit led by Bilawal, who has also served as the country's foreign minister, comes in the wake of India's escalation following the Pahalgam attack. Both nuclear-armed neighbours experienced heightened military tensions, during which Pakistan shot down six Indian aircraft. A ceasefire was reached following the intervention of US President Donald Trump.
According to sources, the committee headed by Bilawal will meet members of the US administration, Congress, think tanks, and media outlets to brief them on Pakistan's stance regarding the escalating tensions with India.
The delegation aims to highlight what it calls the root causes of potential Pakistan-India conflict and raise concerns over India's disinformation campaigns and foreign-influenced operations targeting Pakistan.

The committee will also meet United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York, followed by meetings with senior officials of the Trump administration in Washington.
A key focus will be the implications of any disruption to the Indus Waters Treaty and its potential impact on regional security. "The parliamentary team will clearly communicate how India's provocations and disinformation threaten regional peace," a source familiar with the visit said.
The delegation is expected to remain in the US until June 9, after which it will travel to the United Kingdom and then continue on to various European countries. Prominent members of the delegation include former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, former envoy Jalil Abbas Jilani, Khurram Dastgir, and Musadik Malik.

After ceasefire with India, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Bilawal to lead a high-level delegation tasked with presenting 'Pakistan's case for peace' on recent Indian aggression to the international community.
The committee will engage with global leaders and institutions to raise awareness about India's actions and Pakistan's concerns regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. The government has also planned to send additional delegations to other countries as part of a broader diplomatic outreach.

Earlier, the federal government had officially designated all terrorist groups operating in Balochistan as 'Fitna al Hindustan', accusing India of sponsoring a proxy war through these outfits. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior on Saturday, the move stems from 'the involvement of some organizations and groups in terrorist activities in Balochistan, which are detrimental to Islamic faith, the sovereignty of Pakistan, and its customary traditions'. The notification further stated that the new designation is intended to reflect 'the true nature and ideology' of these groups and their 'nefarious designs' sponsored by India. 'All government entities are directed to start the above practice immediately,' the notification said, underscoring a concerted effort to reframe the narrative around insurgent violence in the province. The announcement came as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused India of escalating indirect aggression after what he described as its defeat in a recent security operation dubbed 'Marka-e-Haq'. Accusing India of intensifying a proxy terrorism campaign in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, he said, 'India, after suffering strategic setbacks, has resorted to indirect aggression'. 'But Pakistan will thwart all such nefarious designs and stand resolute against Fitna al Hindustan and its proxies.'

Budget talks with IMF successful: PM Shehbaz
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the forthcoming federal budget had been successful, paving the way for a new phase of economic growth. Talking to a select group of journalists, Sharif said the government had stabilised the economy and would now shift its focus toward sustained development. 'We have achieved economic stability; now we must embark on the journey of economic development,' he said, claiming that no corruption cases had emerged during the current tenure of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. IMF disagrees with Pakistan over key targets, subsidies ahead of budget Sharif also signalled readiness to engage in dialogue with India, proposing talks on four key issues: Kashmir, water, trade, and terrorism. 'Pakistan is willing to hold talks anywhere in the world,' he said, adding that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks were driven by domestic political pressure. 'We have taken our revenge for 1971 from India,' Sharif claimed, stating that Pakistan had shot down six aircraft, including four Rafale fighter jets. He further said the government was committed to implementing sustainable reforms across national institutions, aiming to transform Pakistan into a stable and competitive global economy. It is pertinent to mention that the federal budget for the next fiscal year is expected to be a reform-driven, IMF-guided document focused on economic stabilisation, balancing fiscal consolidation with targeted relief. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is scheduled to present the budget in National Assembly on June 10, following a delay caused by protracted discussions with the IMF over tax relief. Development spending under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), originally set at Rs1.4 trillion – including Public-Private Partnership projects – has been revised downward twice, first to Rs1.25 trillion and later to Rs1.096 trillion.
