Indian javelin throw athlete Sachin Yadav expressed disappointment over the postponement of the NC Classic, but hoped to make it through to the World Championships with a strong showing at the Asian Athletics Championships slated to be held in South Korea.
The NC Classic was originally scheduled to be held on the 24th of May in Bengaluru, but has been postponed in the wake of the armed conflict between India and Pakistan.
'I was preparing for the NC Classic. It is world-class field and you do better when you compete with the best in the world," Yadav began.
'I was hoping to breach the World Championships' automatic qualifying distance during the NC Classic, so I am a bit disappointed," the 25-year-old said.
'Had I gone to South Korea after competing in the NC Classic, it would have been much easier. Now I have to qualify for the World Championships in South Korea. That is my target."
Yadav, who boasts a PB of 84.39m, was introduced to the sport by his neighbour Sandeep Yadav who later patched him through to renowned javelin coach Naval Singh.
'The training under Naval Singh changed my life. I did not even imagine that I would reach this stage. But it happened due to Sandeep bhai and guruji (Naval Singh)."
The installation of new tracks inside the JLN Stadium and the warm-up area for the World Para Athletics Championships scheduled for September-October has caused inconvenience for Yadav, who now has to travel to Faridabad for his throwing practices. This situation also highlights important concerns about Delhi's limited top-class training facilities.
'I am going to Faridabad from the NCoE for throwing sessions thrice a week as new tracks are being laid inside the JLN Stadium as well as in the warm-up area," the athlete said.
'In the remaining days, I do routine things like weight training, running, etc at the NCoE at JLN itself," he added.

'Whether that's KL (Rahul) or Karun (Nair) at No.3, and then Shubman might end up being that No.4 player, which will probably make life for him a little bit easier as a captain as well.' Ponting believes that opening the batting or playing at no.3 – which had been Gill's designated role in Tests so far – will put pressure on the youngster. 'Not having to be opening or batting at No.3 as a young captain might make it easier. Their top five will probably be Sudarshan, Jaiswal, KL, Gill and Karun Nair for the start of the England series,' said the Aussie great.
