Showjumper and horse rider GUILTY of forcing underage girl into sex with them
A showjumper and horse rider have been found guilty of forcing an underage girl to have sex with them.
Guy Simmonds, 37, and Lauren Jarvis, 26, were both found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court. Simmonds was found not guilty of five counts of the same charge.
Cardiff Crown Court heard the pair engaged in a "so-called threesome" with the girl. Simmonds had sex with the girl and his co-defendant on the same night while Jarvis "participated willingly" in the incident. It comes after teenage thugs beat rough sleeper to death and laughed as he lay in street.
Prosecutor James Hartson said there were "clear elements of grooming" on the part of Simmonds and told jurors that during the course of the trial they would see evidence in the form of text conversations between the defendants where they were "agreeing to a pact of silence" about it.
The incident happened in 2024 in Jarvis' home, in the active presence of Jarvis, which Mr Hartson said the 26-year-old had participated "willingly" in, reports Wales Online.
Mr Hartson told the jury that it was Simmonds' case that there was no sexual contact between himself and the schoolgirl at any time . He said Simmonds accepted being in a sexual relationship with Jarvis but denied any sexual contact with the complainant.
Messages read to the jury showed Simmonds asking Jarvis when he should "pop over" for sex and Jarvis agreeing that it was "absolutely fine" with her.
In a later message Simmonds checks whether the girl is there yet. "I don't want to turn up at the same time that her mum drops her off," he said. In further messages Simmonds, who ran a riding school in the Welsh village of undy, said in a text to Jarvis: "If anyone asks for sake of both of us nothing ever happened that night xx."
Jarvis said in response: "Hey, who's she told? Oh god has she really, what's she trying to do, make our lives hell? Of course I will xx." Simmonds said messages with Jarvis about the encounter were 'banter and a wind up'.
But a jury returned guilty verdicts in respect of both defendants in relation to one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
Simmonds, of Acacia Avenue, Undy, Monmouthshire, was remanded in custody, and Jarvis, of Allt-Yr-Yn Court, Newport, was remanded on bail by Judge Lucy Crowther to appear for sentencing on September 29.

Man jailed after threatening to 'gang rape stewardess and set her alight'
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A Virgin Atlantic passenger has been jailed after calling an air hostess a 'f***ing white Welsh c**t' and threatening to 'gang rape and set her alight'. Salman Iftikhar was on a flight from London Heathrow to Lahore when he unleashed a tirade of abuse at stewardess, Angie Walsh, and promised to blow up the Avari Lahore Hotel, where cabin crew were due to stay. Footage shows the 37-year-old repeatedly accusing the woman of being a racist and shouting,' You called me a p**i in front of everybody'. Another passenger, who filmed the shocking scenes, can be heard saying 'holy s**t' as the scene unfolded in first class. Iftikhar's wife and three children watched him chugg champagne, film the crew and eventually 'grabbing and squeezing' Ms Walsh's arm and telling her, 'You will be dead on the floor of your hotel'. Isleworth Crown Court heard that the incident on on February 7, 2023, was so bad that pilots even considered detouring the plane to Turkey. Prosecutor Abdul Kapadia detailed how the horror unfolded: 'During the first meal service, the defendant was seen helping himself to ice, leaning over the bar he was drinking at, and taking ice with his hands. 'When told to stop, the defendant became irate, and started to film cabin crew with his phone, telling them: 'Do not tell me what to do you bitch.' 'When asked by the cabin crew to return to his seat, he then said: 'Don't tell me what to do you racist f***ing bitch. I know where you are from in Cardiff.'' The pilot was then contacted, and turned the seat belt lights on, but that only made the situation worse. Kapadia said: 'The defendant then shouted, and said: 'Look at this bitch having the seat belt sign on when there was no turbulence. What the f**k is this bitch doing?' 'Iftikhar returned to his seat and called crew member Angie Walsh a 'f**king bitch.'' Once the passenger was informed that the flight could be diverted due to his behaviour, his threats did not stop. Instead, he replied: 'I don't care. F**k it, go to Turkey. I have contacts.' The court was told how his three young children were crying and pleading for him to stop, but to no avail. Kapadia revealed how Iftikhar then threatened to blow up a floor of the hotel. He added: 'The defendant knew the specific hotel, but also the hotel room numbers, and threatened the cabin crew with this. 'He told Ms Walsh: 'You will be dead on the floor of your hotel'. 'Iftikhar shouted at Ms Walsh and said: 'The white sheep s**ging b***h will be dead. The floor of your hotel will be blown up and it will disappear.' 'He told Ms Walsh: 'You will be dragged by your hair from your room and gang raped and set on fire.'' When the plane landed in Pakistan, no action was taken against Iftikhar. He was eventually arrested – more than a year later – at his £900,000 home in Iver, Buckingamshire. Ms Walsh told the court how after 37 years of flying with Virgin Atlantic, she had to take 14 months off work after the threat of being gang-raped and She said: 'I can't quite believe that one passenger has had this much of an impact on my, my job, my career and my life. 'I am a strong brave, happy stewardess, and loved my job. I am well known within the company. 'I have been flying with Virgin Atlantic for 37 years. I was working when all flights were grounded on 9/11, and I have even flown into a warzone. But this incident has broken me. 'But I don't feel strong enough anymore. I was abused for eight hours and 15 mins. It has broken me. It was a very personal attack. More Trending 'I was doing everything in my power to protect passengers and the crew from him. I felt exposed and vulnerable, especially as we were 39,000 feet in the air. There was nowhere for me to go. 'There was one moment where I felt I could not cope. I went into the cockpit and had a meltdown. I said to the captain I don't know what to do.' Ben Walker-Nolan, defending, told the court that his client was suffering from 'amnesia blood loss', which contributed to what happened. Iftikhar wept in the dock as he was sentences to 15 months behind bars. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page. Power surges to blame as CCTV cameras suddenly stop working in Welsh city
Power surges to blame as CCTV cameras suddenly stop working in Welsh city The revelation followed complaints from city centre traders A general view of Newport's Commercial Street (Image: John Myers) Power surges were to blame for knocking out some CCTV cameras in Newport, senior councillors have confirmed. It follows questions from opposition leader councillor Matthew Evans around the effectiveness of camera coverage. Councillor Evans said he had received "a number of complaints from city centre traders about the CCTV system and allegations about the cameras either being switched off, facing the wrong way or not capturing anti-social behaviour". He said: "I understand when there have been some shoplifting or anti-social behaviour cases and [when] the police have contacted the control centre, there hasn't been any camera footage because the camera was switched off or it wasn't visible." In a written question to the cabinet members with responsibilities for communities, he asked: "Can you confirm, if this is true, what you intend to do about it? If these allegations are unfounded, why have there been several recent complaints?" In response, councillors Jason Hughes and Mark Spencer said: "We have recently experienced some issues due to a number of power surges on the wider grid causing damage. "The main issue was identified and repaired. Article continues below "However, a small number of cameras remain offline pending a new cable connection, which will prevent such issues in the future." The cabinet members added: "We have a mixture of fixed and remotely controllable cameras across the city that allow us to redirect our coverage to assist in such situations."

Crooked finance manager who stole £140,000 from employers to pay back £72,000
Crooked finance manager who stole £140,000 from employers to pay back £72,000 Victoria King, 56, paid herself an extra £7,500 a month by fiddling the books Victoria King, as known as Vikki Phillips, pictured in 2011 A crooked finance manager who stole £140,000 from her employers years after being jailed for leaving another employer out of pocket has been ordered to pay back £72,000. She was already on a £45,000-a-year salary but paid herself an extra £7,500 a month by fiddling the books and creating payments to what looked to be a genuine supplier but was in fact herself. Victoria King, 56, who is also known as Vikki Phillips, was jailed in 2014 for stealing £130,000 from a charity she was working for and went on to forge "glowing" references from her victims which she used to apply for another job in finance. In 2021 King joined the Rhigos office of Eftech Ltd, a company which supplies adhesives and sealants to the automotive industry, as finance manager. For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter. She said in that £45,000-a-year role the defendant was responsible for making payments to the firm's suppliers and had access to the company's Lloyds bank account. In April 2023 the defendant quit her job and the Belgium-based company decided not to replace her but to subsume the Welsh office's finance operations into the Belgian operations. As part of the transition process a financial review was carried out which involved checking invoices and payments at the Rhigos office. The audit highlighted discrepancies in the numbers and the boss of the Rhigos branch was asked to carry out an investigation. The internal probe ultimately uncovered 21 payments made between October 2021 and July 2023 to an account which had a name almost identical to that of a genuine supplier. In total £140,197 had been paid into the account, which was controlled by King, usually in monthly amounts of £7,500. The police were alerted and the defendant was interviewed but answered "no comment" to all questions asked. In a statement from the current boss of the Rhigos office he described King's behaviour as "despicable". He said the offending had led to a "breakdown of trust" which was a shame as the firm had always been a close-knit company where often generations of the same family had chosen to work. He said King had been happy to talk to people about her horses and the holidays she was taking and that the offending was done simply out of greed. King, of Highdale Crescent, Llantrisant, Pontyclun, had previously pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position when she appeared in the dock for sentencing. The court heard she has two previous convictions for two offences. She was sentenced to 32 months in prison at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court in May. Article continues below A Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) hearing at the same court on Wednesday heard King benefited to the tune of £145,197 as a result of her offending but only has assets worth £72,657. Judge Vanessa Francis ordered the defendant to pay that sum within three months or serve an additional two years imprisonment in default.
