In the ongoing second youth Test against the English team, Mhatre scored 80 runs from 90 balls in the first innings and 124 runs from 80 balls in the second.
Ayush Mhatre is the captain of the India U-19 team, and on Wednesday (July 23), the right-handed batter from Mumbai was on fire with the bat against the England U-19 side. He opened for the visitors in the second innings of the second youth Test at County Ground in Chelmsford and completed his century in just 64 balls. The century on Wednesday is Mhatre's second century in the youth Test.
In the first innings of the first youth Test played at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham last week, Mhatre scored 102 runs from 115 balls.
Mhatre, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, smacked 126 runs from 80 balls with the help of 13 fours and six sixes on Wednesday, and his batting strike rate was 157.50.
In the first innings of the ongoing match, he scored 80 runs from 90 balls with a strike rate of 88.89.
Mhatre, who is 18 years old, scored a total of 206 runs in the second youth Test from just 170 balls, and his strike rate in the game was 121.17.
The batting strike rate of 121.17 helped Mhatre equal former New Zealand captain and star batter Brendon McCullum's 24-year-old batting record.
During the 2001 New Zealand-South Africa youth Test played in Lincoln from February 4 to 7, McCullum also scored more than 200 runs in the match with a strike rate of 100+.
In that fixture, McCullum scored 186 runs from 172 balls (SR 108.13) in the first innings after coming out to bat at No. 6 and 46 not out from 42 balls (SR 109.52) in the second innings.
Interestingly, like Mhatre, McCullum was also the captain of the New Zealand team in that match.

14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was India's best batter in the five-match youth ODI series against the English team, failed to fire with the bat in the second innings of the second youth Test. He, in fact, was not able to open his account as well and was sent back to the pavilion for a first-ball duck by Alex Green. Green breached his defence and shattered his stumps.

When I was going to bed (after day 4), I was only thinking about 'how could I drop it'. "Had I taken that catch, we wouldn't have had to come out and play on Monday. We would have been in the room relaxed. But the Almighty had something else in store for us. He brought us to the stadium on Monday and the result is in front of everyone," Siraj said. Siraj had stumbled on to the ropes while collecting Brook's catch at fine leg on day four, which would have turned the game decisively for India. "When I woke up in the morning (on Monday), my inner self told me that I can do it, I can change the game. I had that belief," he said. "I woke up in the morning and checked google on my phone and took out a 'Believe' emoji wallpaper and told myself that I will do it for the country. "I always believe that I can win the game from any point, and did that in the morning."

MP High Court stays conferment of top sports award to mountaineer
Agency: PTI Indore, Aug 5 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday granted temporary stay to the conferment of the Vikram Award for 2023 in adventure sports category to mountaineer Bhavna Dehariya on a petition filed by another senior climber, Madhusudan Patidar. Justice Pranay Verma of the Indore bench of the High Court passed the order hours before the state government's Shikhar Khel Alankaran ceremony was to be held in Bhopal. Dehariya was to be given the award, the top sports honour of the Madhya Pradesh government, at the function. Patidar, a resident of Indore, claimed in his petition that the award in the category of adventure sports should have been given to him on the basis of seniority, as per the rules. The HC issued a notice to the state government and Dehariya, seeking a reply within four weeks. The judge ordered the government not to award Dehariya the award till the next hearing, likely to be held on September 17. Every year, 12 senior players who have excelled in different sports are awarded the Vikram Award which comprises Rs 2 lakh and a memento. Award-winners are also given government jobs.
