Mumbai: GMR Energy , the holding company for the group's power assets , has raised ₹1,600 crore through high-yield, five-year non-convertible debt , people familiar with the matter told ET. The issue, priced at 14.85%, drew investors including Allianz Global, Trust, and DSP Finance. The coupon works out to more than twice the existing risk-free rate on comparable duration. Proceeds will be used to partly repay existing loans and xtend intra-group lending, said the people cited above. Some investors are expected to offload portions of the debt in the secondary market to large foreign banks and family offices. "We will sell down our exposure to family offices and institutions at an attractive rate," said one of the investors, declining to be named. The fundraising is at a higher cost as this is a holding company. Also, some of the foreign banks are not interested in lending to thermal power producers.
