New Delhi: The Indian Railways is working on enhancing connectivity between major cities in Northern India through the Delhi-Amritsar train route for which the proposed Delhi-Amritsar High Speed Rail (DAMHSR) project aims to establish a 465-kilometre rail line connecting Delhi, Chandigarh, and Amritsar. This line will have 13 stations across Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.
The DAMHSR project was started by the Government of India in 2019 and is one of six new high-speed rail corridors aimed at improving transportation efficiency. The tender related formalities started in October 2020. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Amritsar with a maximum speed of 350 kilometres per hour and an operational speed of 320 kilometres per hour while the average speed during operations will be approximately 250 kilometres per hour.
With this rail, the travel time between Delhi and Amritsar is expected to be one hour and fifty-2 minutes. Route and Stations
The Delhi Amritsar Train will include a mix of elevated, underground, and at-grade sections. The route will primarily follow a greenfield alignment through central Haryana, partially paralleling the existing Delhi – Amritsar – Katra Expressway. The line will serve the following stations:
– Delhi
– Asaudha
– Rohtak
– Jind
– Kaithal
– Sangrur
– Malerkotla
– Ludhiana
– Jalandhar
– Amritsar
Additionally, a spur line will connect Sangrur, Patiala, Rajpura, and Chandigarh. Fare Structure
The fare is expected to be set around at 1.5 times the current first-class AC fare on Indian Railways. The final fare details will be announced closer to the commencement of commercial operations. This will be done to provide clarity for future passengers traveling from Delhi to Amritsar.
This project is being supervised by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). Other key players include Magnitude Consortium, PK Engineers, and APECO Infrastructure India Pvt. Ltd., among others. These contractors look after data collection, ridership studies, and environmental assessments to ensure the project meets all regulatory and safety standards.
The trains on the DAMHSR project will be equipped with an Urgent Earthquake Detection and Alarm System (UrEDAS) that automatically activates braking systems in the event of an earthquake. This feature aims to enhance passenger safety during travel.

16 J&K tourist hubs to reopen on June 17, more to follow in phased manner: Lt governor Sinha

After receiving security clearance from intelligence and law enforcement agencies, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to reopen several tourist destinations across the Union Territory on June 17, which were shut down following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. Soon after the attack, the government had closed access to nearly 50 offbeat tourist locations, particularly in Kashmir, citing security concerns. Now, with improved assessments and coordination between divisional commissioners and police officials, eight destinations in Kashmir and several in Jammu have been reopened to tourists, officials said. Jammu & Kashmir Lt governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that eight tourist destinations Betaab Valley, local parks in the Pahalgam, Verinag garden, Kokernag garden, and Achabal Garden in Anantnag district, Badamwari park, Duck park and Taqdeer Park in Srinagar will now be open to visitors. In Jammu, tourist spots like Sarthal, Baggar, Devi Pindi, Sehar Baba Waterfall, sulha park, Gul danda, Jai Valley and Panchari, have also been declared safe for tourism. 'Other destinations will also be reopened in a phased manner,' Sinha said, adding that all these 16 tourist places will be reopened on June 17. 'After the April 22 incident, some locations were closed due to precautionary security measures. The divisional commissioners and inspectors general of Kashmir and Jammu have reviewed the ground reports from all districts. Based on those reports, it has been decided to open some places. A committee will assess remaining spots and more destinations will be reopened in the second phase,' he added. Sinha said that the recent launch of the Vande Bharat train has boosted tourist enthusiasm. 'I've been informed that tickets for the train are fully booked for the next 10–12 days.' Officials say tourism is gradually picking up in the region, with the Centre also actively participating in efforts to revive the sector. 'Government of India delegations, official committee meetings, and parliamentary group visits being held in Srinagar are also helping restore public confidence and encouraging more tourist footfall,' Sinha said. Chief minister Omar Abdullah had earlier hinted at a phased reopening of 48 tourist destinations that were closed post-attack. Following a cabinet meeting held in Pahalgam earlier this month, he had announced that each location would be reviewed, with schools and colleges being encouraged to take students on picnics to promote domestic tourism and confidence. Among the destinations closed after the attack were Doodhpathri and Yousmarg in central Kashmir, Bungus valley in north Kashmir, and Daksum and Sinthan Top in south Kashmir. These, along with various meadows, trekking routes, and hill parks, may be reopened after further security assessments.

FCB India's campaign 'Lucky Yatra' for Indian Railways, which introduces a lottery system to encourage ticket purchases, has earned a prestigious shortlist in the Dan Wieden Titanium Lions category, highlighting innovative solutions to social issues. Dentsu Creative India's entries, such as 'Garuda Rakshak' utilizing drones to tackle child disappearances and 'Hug of Life' transforming hot water bottles into breast self-exam guides, exemplify the integration of technology in social causes within the advertising space. The French Riviera is once again abuzz with the annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2025 that unfolds from June 16 to 20. For India, a nation known for its diverse narratives and ingenious solutions, the festival presents a vital platform. This year, with 982 entries, Indian agencies are making their presence felt, translating local nuances into globally resonant campaigns. While the grand awards are yet to be fully revealed, the shortlists offer a sneak peek into the country's creative pulse, tallying 22 shortlists across five categories. One of the most talked-about campaigns to make a significant mark is FCB India 's "Lucky Yatra" for Indian Railways. This initiative, which cleverly encourages ticket purchases by weaving in a lottery system, has earned a coveted shortlist in the Dan Wieden Titanium Lions category . The Titanium Lions are reserved for truly transformative ideas, and "Lucky Yatra" demonstrates how a creative approach can tackle a pervasive social issue like ticketless travel with a positive incentive rather than just penalties. Its presence in this elite category underscores a shift towards impactful, problem-solving creativity. Beyond this headline-grabbing entry, FCB India has showcased a broader portfolio. Their "Colour Blindness Detection Book" for Navneet, integrating subtle Ishihara-style tests into children's illustrations, and "Barabari Ki Bhasha" for Navbharat Times, aimed at promoting gender-neutral language, highlight a commitment to social messaging. Even a campaign like "Uber One, Takes One to Get One" for Uber India, which plays on a phonetic quirk, demonstrates an acute understanding of the Indian consumer landscape. Another strong contender in the Titanium category is Talented's "Nature Shapes Britannia" for Britannia Industries. This campaign intricately links environmental themes with the brand's core identity, speaking to a growing consumer consciousness around sustainability. Similarly, Havas' "Ink of Democracy" for The Times of India Group, a powerful narrative celebrating India's democratic spirit, has also found a place on the Titanium shortlist, and earned multiple shortlists in the Print and Publishing category. The shortlists released so far, spanning Health and Wellness, Outdoor, Pharma and Print and Publishing categories, reveal a rich tapestry of Indian creativity: Outdoor: India has secured a remarkable 13 shortlists. Campaigns like Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's "Dry Thru" by Tribes Communication, Ogilvy Mumbai's "Chai Basuri - Tea Flute" for Brooke Bond Taj Mahal, and multiple nods for FCB India's "Lucky Yatra" demonstrate a diverse approach to outdoor advertising, from special builds to culturally resonant live events. Ogilvy Bangalore's "Eye Test Menu" for Titan Company also stands out with multiple shortlists, showcasing interactive experiences. Health and Wellness: "Project Early Periods" for P&G Whisper by Leo Burnett, Mumbai, "Eye Test Menu" for Titan Company by Ogilvy, Bangalore, and "Naga Saint Eye Test" for Eyebetes Foundation by Godrej Creative Lab, Maharashtra, highlight a focus on public health and awareness. Pharma: Lowe Lintas' "Dawai Reader" for Alkem Laboratories, designed to help local chemists accurately decipher illegible prescriptions in rural India using AI, has received multiple shortlists, pointing to innovation in healthcare access. Print and Publishing: Besides Havas' "Ink of Democracy," Famous Innovations, Mumbai's "Seven Layers Of Truth" for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has been shortlisted. This campaign directly addresses cultural beliefs surrounding C-sections, showing how print can be used for impactful social commentary. Beyond these initial shortlists, other agencies have also sent a compelling array of work: BBDO India continues its legacy with the enduring "#ShareTheLoad" campaign for Ariel, which has consistently driven conversations around gender equality in household chores. Their "Feet Of Glory" for Tata Ultra Marathon, transforming running into a pledge for shoe donations, also reflects a commitment to social good. TBWA\India's "The Inglish Dictionary" for Air India Express celebrates the unique evolution of Indian English, legitimising local expressions and showcasing cultural confidence. Independent agency Tgthr. has entered campaigns like "UV Lync" by Ultraviolette Automotive, a pragmatic solution for EV two-wheeler charging, and "Anti-Scam Shala" for NPCI and Times of India, a mass-awareness campaign combating digital payment scams, demonstrating ingenuity and ground-level impact. Dentsu Creative India has entries like "Garuda Rakshak" for DSP Mutual Fund, using drones to address child disappearances at mass gatherings, and "Hug of Life" for SBI Life, transforming hot water bottles into breast self-exam guides, showcasing technology and cultural integration for social causes. Wondrlab has entries that include "Bill of Pride" for the Keshav Suri Foundation, tackling corporate allyship with an unconventional "bill" for social media engagement and "The Right Sign" aimed at integrating Indian Sign Language into rap culture. As the festival continues with more shortlists to be announced until June 18 across categories like Design, Digital Craft, Direct, Entertainment, Media, PR and Social and Influencer, and with award shows taking place daily from June 16 to 20, the full extent of India's creative performance will soon be clear. These early shortlists, however, already paint a promising picture, reflecting an evolving Indian advertising landscape that consistently delivers work that is both culturally resonant and globally impactful, moving beyond mere product promotion to engage with complex social narratives and redefine the very purpose of creative communication.

Destinations Closed After Pahalgam Attack Being Reopened In Phased Manner

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said the parks at tourist places, which were closed in view of security considerations after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, are being reopened in a phased manner to allow tourists to visit the destinations. He said that some destinations will be reopened in the first phase from June 17. "Some places were closed after April 22 (attack) in view of security considerations. The divisional commissioners and IGPs of Kashmir and Jammu have taken reports from every district and it has been decided to reopen some destinations in a phased manner," Sinha said. The lieutenant governor was speaking to reporters after visiting the Nunwan Base Camp of the annual Amarnath Yatra in Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. Sinha said the destinations that have been decided to be reopened for tourists in the first phase include Beetab Valley and the parks near Pahalgam market in the famous tourist destination of Pahalgam, Verinag, Kokernag and Achabal gardens in Anantnag district. In Srinagar, Badamwari Park, Duck Park near Nigeen and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal will also be reopened in the first phase. These eight places are being reopened and tourists can visit these, he added. The lieutenant governor also said that eight destinations would be reopened in Jammu region as well. "Sarthal and Dhaggar in Kathua, Devipindi, Siyad Baba and Sula Park in Reasi, Guldanda and Jai valley in Doda, and Pancheri in Udhampur -- all in Jammu region -- are also being reopened in the first phase," said Sinha. "Eight places are being reopened in the first phase. In the next phase, some other destinations will be reopened," he added. The lieutenant governor said the committee comprising of the divisional commissioners and IGPs of both regions will take reports from districts and then some more places will be reopened in consultations with the Tourist Department. "The tourists are coming. There is a new enthusiasm in people after the launch of Vande Bharat (train), Railways people have told me that all tickets have been booked for the next 10-12 days. The number of tourists is increasing gradually," said Sinha. "Endeavours are being made from every side, the Government of India will also be having meetings of the Parliamentary delegations, committees etc. in Srinagar. This will restore the confidence," he added. Commenting on the Amarnath Yatra that is scheduled to begin on July 3, the lieutenant governor said that stringent security arrangements have been made and appealed to people to come here in large numbers. "But I request them to travel in convoy only from Jammu. Security agencies have formulated a plan for them to travel here and they should stick to that plan," he said. "Met the delegation of Hon'ble MLAs, DDC Chairperson & Vice Chairpersons, tour and travel operators, Ponywala association and hoteliers' associations at Pahalgam. I've assured the delegation that restrictions on other tourist spots will be lifted after thorough security assessment," he said in a post on X. Sinha said the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CAPFs have made foolproof security arrangements for the annual pilgrimage. "The locals have supported the yatra and I especially want from the people of Kashmir to come forward and participate in this yatra. This is your yatra, it makes your economy stronger and it will start the revival of tourism, so there is a need for all to support it," said Sinha. "It is not the administration and security forces, but the people here who hold this yatra. The administration and the security forces are doing their job. This yatra is of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, they should think of it as their own yatra and everyone should cooperate in the Baba's yatra," he added. The lieutenant governor also said that a large number of yatris have registered for the pilgrimage. "The facilities for the yatris have improved a lot in the last three to four years. Be it the power connectivity, telecom connectivity, the number as well as the quality of the halting facilities for yatris has also increased. I visited the Nunwan base camp, the preparations are going on very well," he added.
