RAM unveils new Human Capital Management Programme
Designed for human resource development managers across the public sector, the programme aims to cultivate high-performing and supportive organisational environments by enhancing participants' effectiveness and ensuring the efficient implementation of strategies.
Delivered in partnership with Integrated Business Solutions (IBS), the new initiative reflects an ongoing commitment to achieving organisational excellence by investing in human capital.
The two-month programme will equip participants with advanced capabilities as it explores strategic workforce planning, talent management, leadership development, and effective communication, each playing an essential role in improving productivity and organisational performance. Ultimately, the Future of Human Capital Management programme will enable participants to implement their new knowledge and practical skills, contributing to driving institutional efficiency and innovation.
'The launch of the Future of Human Capital Management programme represents a pivotal step towards the realisation of Oman Vision 2040 by investing in our national talent. We believe that equipping human resource leaders with advanced leadership capabilities is essential to drive the development of dynamic and innovative workplaces, which directly contribute to enhancing organisational performance and towards achieving long-term goals. The programme also seeks to provide participants with an opportunity to reflect on cutting-edge global practices and explore effective practical tools, enabling them to become strategic partners in driving impactful and lasting results in their organisations and society at large,' said Abla al Buali, supervisor of the new programme.
The programme takes a holistic learning approach that links theory with practice. Participants will engage in interactive workshops and explore real-world case studies and hands-on activities that are directly applicable to their professional roles. It will also include dialogue sessions with distinguished local and international experts in the area of human capital management. Moreover, it fosters peer-to-peer engagement and the cultivation of professional networks that will support participants' long-term career development.
The learning journey explores themes such as strategic human resource planning, where participants examine contemporary HR strategies and methods for assessing workforce requirements alongside approaches to managing change in dynamic work environments. Salalah Free Zone secures RO187mn in H1 2025
Salalah – Salalah Free Zone (SFZ), part of Asyad Group, has attracted six new projects in the first half of 2025 with a combined investment value exceeding RO187mn. The additions bring total cumulative investments in the zone to RO4.9bn since the start of commercial operations. SFZ reported high occupancy rates, with 51% of leasable land and 87% of warehouses currently in use, reflecting steady demand for its infrastructure and services. In the same period, seven strategic projects worth more than RO80mn entered pilot operation or construction phases. SFZ stated the developments highlight strong investor confidence, supported by its location at the crossroads of three continents, modern infrastructure, and integration with Salalah Port and Salalah Airport. 'The indicators achieved in the first half of 2025 reaffirm growing investor confidence in our integrated environment,' said Dr Ali bin Mohammed Tabuk, CEO of SFZ. 'We are focused on attracting projects that leverage our infrastructure, incentives and Asyad Group's logistics solutions, while contributing to economic diversification and sustainable development in line with Oman Vision 2040.' The zone's success is a testament to its strategic advantages, including a suite of investor-centric incentives, SFZ stated. A quest for harmonious path between heritage, modernity
MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman is striving to develop smart cities that align with contemporary demands while fostering a connection between the past and present, embodying national identity and its imperatives as part of urban transformation. The vision for the construction sector emphasises enhancing the harmony between heritage and modernity through innovative and distinctive approaches. National identity and its requirements are evident in projects aligned with Oman Vision 2040. Sultan Haitham City stands as a prime example of smart cities, striking a balance between modernity and cultural distinctiveness while serving as a model for future urban development and a promising investment destination. Hassan bin Ali al Shukri, an architect at the Executive Office for Smart City Projects in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, states: "Smart cities in Oman are not merely digital infrastructures but tools for revitalising identity and improving quality of life. They draw inspiration from traditional Omani architecture and its deep understanding of the environment and societal behaviour. Oman adheres to timeless architectural principles that seamlessly integrate with modern technologies, such as smart sensing systems, lighting control and climate simulation." Al Shukri added that traditional Omani architecture offers an advanced functional model, utilising local building materials that reduce emissions and provide natural thermal insulation. Windows and mashrabiyas (lattice screens) intelligently regulate ventilation and lighting, while compact urban planning incorporates shaded pathways to encourage walking and reduce street heat. He explained that Oman's smart cities take cues from history to shape a future rooted in people's environment and culture, transforming heritage concepts into sustainable, practical solutions. Omani heritage — including systems like aflaj (traditional irrigation), earthen buildings and narrow alleyways — provides a scalable design framework for smart cities. These elements become effective tools for reducing energy consumption, improving air quality, guiding pedestrian movement, and enhancing visual and urban harmony. Dr Haitham bin Najim al Abri, an architect and researcher specialising in Omani architecture and urbanism, noted that Oman possesses a unique distinctiveness in building arts and urban planning, reflecting the ingenuity of Omanis in harmonising with nature and respecting resources. The wisdom and skills of ancestors have laid a solid foundation passed down through generations. He explained that Omanis have long understood how to build cities adaptable to diverse terrains — from mountains to coasts, deserts to oases — while preserving identity and sustainability. Al Abri stated that smart cities are not mere replicas of global models but an extension of ancestral ingenuity, where technology enriches rather than erases identity. Meanwhile, Abdulaziz bin Mohammed al Balushi, a property owner in Sultan Haitham City, highlights how heritage values are integrated into the technical infrastructure of smart cities, blending modern technology with authentic Omani principles. There is a clear respect for privacy in neighbourhood and home designs, ensuring family spaces remain protected, while the social fabric is maintained through mosques, communal gathering spaces (majlis) and parks that encourage social interaction. He adds that the visual and design character of Omani smart cities creates a living experience rooted in authenticity yet open to innovation. The visual language emphasises Omani identity through architecture inspired by local history, such as traditional arches and engravings, while incorporating modern design elements like smart lighting, interconnected green spaces, and smart pedestrian and cycling paths. South Batinah sees sharp rise in building permits
Rustaq – South Batinah recorded a 50% increase in major building permits in the first half of 2025, underscoring a surge in urban development and real estate investment, according to municipal data. The number of permits rose to 3,289 from 2,188 in the same period last year. Barka led with 1,786 permits, followed by Musannah with 634, Rustaq with 565, Wadi al Maawil with 127, Nakhal with 125 and Al Awabi with 52. Residential construction dominated, accounting for 2,994 permits. Industrial projects followed with 92 permits, residential-commercial (85), agricultural (56), government (29), commercial (28) and tourism (five). Minor building permits increased 29% to 275, while building completion certificates rose 51% to 2,515. 'These statistics reflect growth in construction indicators and the extent of the municipality's efforts to expedite procedures and improve service quality,' said Badr bin Mohammed al Saidi, Director General of South Batinah Municipality. He said the strategy aims to empower the urban sector, attract real estate investment and meet comprehensive development goals. Saidi highlighted the use of modern technologies and digital services to speed up transactions, enhance efficiency and ensure compliance with technical and safety standards. 'These positive indicators are a strong incentive for us to continue working to meet the needs of population and urban growth.' Mohammed bin Masi al Kindi, Director of Technical Affairs Department, said the increase in permits and completion certificates reflected 'significant development in urban planning and growing demand for residential and commercial projects'. He added that South Batinah is undergoing major urban expansion, requiring balanced and sustainable planning. The municipality, he said, is enhancing infrastructure and coordinating with other agencies to support housing and commercial projects in line with Oman Vision 2040 objectives.
