Warwickshire man quits job to run length of UK for charity

BBC News10-03-2025

A delivery driver has quit his job to run the length of the UK in a month for a cause close to his heart.Jack Ward, 24, from Warwickshire, was inspired by "Hardest Geezer", also known as Russ Cook, who ran the 8,000 km (5,000 mile) length of Africa in April 2024.Mr Ward, who lives in Atherstone, began his journey, which is about 874 miles, on 26 February at John O'Groats in Caithness. He is raising money for Rett UK, after his friend's four year-old daughter, Poppy, was diagnosed with a neurological condition called Rett syndrome.
It is a rare genetic disorder that affects brain development, resulting in severe mental and physical disability, and is almost exclusively seen in girls."I started running in lockdown and I kind of got the bug for it, so over the last few years I have been doing different marathons in Paris and Amsterdam," he said.
"I also watched the Hardest Geezer and Ashley Cain and others who have done challenges like this and and thought, why not give it a go myself."Mr Ward has been averaging 26 miles a day, and has mainly been camping, but freshens up at hotels if donations allow that."People I've never met have been offering to pay for hotels so I can recover faster and it is so kind as they don't have to do that," he said."I just take every day as it comes - if I feel I'm okay and don't need a hotel, I'll camp, but if when I'm camping I wake up and feel I really need a shower, I'll try and go to [a hotel], as using wipes all the time really makes you appreciate having a shower."Mr Ward has been documenting his journey on TikTok and Instagram, and has raised more than £2,400 so far."I've had so many people driving past when I'm not feeling so great, beeping their horns, waving, people messaging me saying: 'When you run through here you can stay with me and we'll get you food'," he said.Mr Ward hopes to finish his mammoth run at Land's End, Cornwall, on 29 March.

It's been an emotional few days for David as it was revealed on Friday that he set to become Sir David. The exciting achievement comes after his 26-year-old Brooklyn, who lives in LA with wife Nicola Peltz, 30, was revealed to have no desire to speak to his parents or siblings after only learning about his dad's knighthood in the press, an insider told Page Six. The source said: "Brooklyn told his family he wants no contact and he's not responding to those that try to connect.' However, a source close to Brooklyn denied this and said, "this seems to be another deliberate attempt to misrepresent the truth, and it only serves to distract from this honor being bestowed on Brooklyn's father." 8 David sweet post to his children resonated with fans Credit: INSTAGRAM 8 David thanked Victoria for making him a dad Credit: INSTAGRAM

British man travels to Canada and is left stunned after spotting huge difference

A British man who travelled to Canada to see his partner was left gobsmacked after spotting a 'mad' difference in houses when driving to her house - but some locals say he's got the wrong idea A Brit who recently travelled to Canada to visit his partner has shared his shocked at a significant difference between the two countries that he can't get his head around. Rayhaan, a man from the UK, took to social media to document his trip to Canada as he visited his wife in the Toronto area for the first time. While it's normal to experience cultural shocks and differences when travelling abroad, and especially when staying with locals, Rayhaan's first cultural shock came during the car ride to his wife's home, where he was baffled by one major dissimilarity to UK houses. ‌ "F**k me are these not mansions?" exclaimed Rayhaan at the beginning of his video, which has since racked up over 1.4 million views on his TikTok account. ‌ The footage showed them driving through a neighbourhood filled with several large detached houses, each appearing to be spacious two or three-storey homes with integrated garages. "That's a mansion in England. Then, oh, another mansion. You're telling me these ain't mansions?" he questioned his partner, who was behind the wheel. Despite her dismissing his thoughts that the properties were mansions, he said: "What do you mean no? Look at the state of these houses. You're telling me they ain't mansions? [...] F**king hell. Mansion ones." As they continued to drive past through the neighbourhood, they continued to pass several similar houses that were all large detached homes with built in single or double garages, multiple storages, and included a large driveway and front gardens. Some homes also had porches that wrapped around the side of the home. ‌ 'This is a madness, I'm telling you, yeah. The houses here are insane," Rayhaan told his viewers. "I just can't get over it. This is just f**ked, it's just stupid. It's absolutely stupid. What is going on bro?" "I don't know why she'd come to England," he said. Viewers quickly took to the comment section to share their thoughts, with many telling Rayhaan that these home were in fact not 'common' Canadian homes. ‌ "I'm Canadian, NOT standard houses, those people are wealthy," one viewer insisted, while another said: "Those are definitely NOT average middle class houses." Another viewer wrote: "They're priced like mansions now so let's just call them mansions and be done with it,". A fellow Brit also shared his thoughts as he wrote: "As a British man in Canada I can confirm this is true... but after living here for five years it's sad to say that these are just average homes with million $ price tags which is ridiculous and what makes it worse is that these homes are made out of cardboard literally not even worth that much at max they should be $350 K.." Another Brit claimed: "In South England they build a house like that, divide it into 4 terraced houses and sell them for 400k each."

More info An actor claims he wants people to 'know the real story' after he was thrown off an Edinburgh flight. Mustafa Denizkan, otherwise known as Elunico Hazaver, claims he was unfairly taken off flight LS721. The plane left Edinburgh Airport at around 3pm on May 10, heading for Larnaca in Cyprus, before it was diverted to Thessaloniki in Greece. Denizkan claims he was taken off the flight after an 'argument between himself, a passenger and the cabin crew'. However, he says that reports of him being 'aggressive, drunk and dangerous' are incorrect. The actor is known for starring in Turkish drama Gönül İşleri, and 2002 short film Yaprak. Taking to Instagram to 'clarify', Denizkan said: "I am currently on medication for a number of medical conditions. "When the cabin crew started serving the passengers, I waited until the cabin crew trolley was in my row. When the member of the cabin crew came in the row I was, I waited until she asked me what I wanted to order and she continued pushing the trolley through the back without asking me anything. "She was a bit rude. I told her I wanted water and Pringles. She told me to wait for my turn. I said okay. I waited for another 10 minutes and pressed the button again. The same person came and told me to wait again. I waited for another 10 minutes and pressed the button again." Denizkan claims he was asked to stop pushing the button. He then admitted raising his voice to the cabin crew, and was allegedly told he wouldn't be served. He continued: "Another passenger got involved and started to shout at me. The guy who shouted at me grabbed my necklaces and ripped them off and I tried to defend myself by pushing him away. That's all! At the time of the incident, another passenger uploaded footage to TikTok of the incident. The clip, which was posted by @jj_bowe, said: "Jet2holidays: Where fists fly before the plane does." She accompanied the post by saying: "Shoutout to the guy who thought assaulting crew mid-air was a vibe - thanks for the five hour delay and the unexpected Greek mini-break, legend." Jet2 have been approached for comment.
