Pedestrian struck by SUV on Route 8 seriously injured
A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was hit by an SUV on Route 8 in Shelton on Sunday.
The crash was reported just before 5:30 a.m. in the area of the Exit 9 entrance ramp, according to Connecticut State Police.
A 59-year-old Watertown man driving a 2020 Ford Ecosport SUV south in the left lane hit a 40-year-old Seymour man who was in the road 'for an unknown reason,' state police said. The pedestrian was seriously injured and was taken in an ambulance to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport.
The driver did not report any injuries. His vehicle had to be towed.
The crash remains under investigation.

State troopers investigating shooting on I-95 in New Haven
State police are investigating a shooting on Interstate 95 in New Haven on Monday after a vehicle was struck by gunfire. The shooting was reported at 5:08 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway in the area of Exit 46, according to Connecticut State Police. Police officer dragged by vehicle during wellness check in Somers
A police officer was dragged by a vehicle while conducting a wellness check in Somers on Monday night. State troopers and officers with the Somers Police Department were conducting the check at a residence on School Street shortly after 8 p.m. when a man tried to flee the area in a vehicle, according to Connecticut State Police. An officer who tried to stop him was dragged a few feet by the vehicle and was not injured, state police said. Authorities are attempting to locate the man they say took off. According to state police, he has been identified as 36-year-old Joshua Waite, and he is believed to be driving a silver Toyota Corolla with the Connecticut license plate AW-61278. CT man found with more than 3,000 files of child sexual abuse material gets 10 years in federal prison
A man previously convicted on child exploitation charges was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after authorities reportedly found more than 3,000 files of child sexual abuse materials at his home. Joshua Glaeser, 37, of New Britain faced sentencing in federal court in Hartford on Monday, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut. His 10-year prison term will be followed by 15 years of supervised release, a judge ordered. According to federal officials, Glaeser was convicted in state court in 2012 of possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended after service of two years, followed by 10 years of probation. In summer 2022, a Connecticut State Police detective investigating child exploitation offenses identified an IP address at Glaeser's New Britain residence that was reportedly being used in the distribution of child sex abuse material, authorities said. In December 2022, Homeland Security Investigations special agents carried out a search warrant at his residence and seized his Chromebook, tablet, smartphone and storage cards, according to officials. Federal officials said an analysis of the items later turned up more than 3,000 images and videos, including material showing infants and toddlers being sexually abused. Authorities said they also found that Glaeser used a peer-to-peer file sharing network to distribute child sexual abuse materials to other users. Glaeser has been detained since the search. On Sept. 26, 2024, he pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.
