Nancy Shukri calls for thorough, transparent investigation into Kuching student's death in Cyberjaya

KUCHING (June 26): Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, has called for a thorough, fair and transparent investigation into the alleged murder of a 20-year-old university student from Kuching.
During a visit to the victim's family this morning, she offered her condolences and expressed hope that justice will be served.
'I pray the family will be given strength and resilience during this difficult time,' she said on Facebook, adding that the body was still en route from Serdang Hospital at the time of her visit.
Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara was found dead in her dormitory room at the Mutiara Ville condominium in Cyberjaya on Tuesday morning (June 24).
She had stayed behind for an exam while her five housemates left for the holidays on June 21.
Several of her belongings, including a laptop, were missing.
Videos circulating online showed police transporting the body to Serdang Hospital.
A post-mortem revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said there were no signs of forced entry or sexual assault.
'Based on the preliminary autopsy report, police deny allegations circulating on social media that the victim was raped and murdered,' he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Three suspects nabbed over uni student's murder
KUALA LUMPUR: A man and two women were detained in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old female private university student in the Klang Valley. Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman (pic) said the suspects, aged 19 and 20 years old, were nabbed in Johor Baru, Johor and Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan on Thursday (June 26) and early Friday (June 27) morning. "They were nabbed within 48 hours of the police report lodged on the incident. "The suspects will be brought to the Sepang Sessions Court for the remand application," he said when contacted on Friday. The case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, he added. "We hope the public will not speculate on the case or share unverified news that could jeopardise the investigation. "We will take stern action on any unlawful act," he said. It was previously reported that the victim, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student, was found dead in a students' hostel. The victim, who was from Kuching, Sarawak, was discovered unconscious with visible injuries on her body by her friend at about 10am on Tuesday (June 24). The friend then immediately alerted the police. She was living with five other students but they had returned home for the holidays on June 21, leaving her alone at the hostel as she was scheduled to sit for an upcoming examination. The victim's ATM card was among several valuables reported missing from the scene, including a laptop, mobile phone, and cash. Cops also found no element of rape in the murder of the victim. KUALA LUMPUR - A man was fatally stabbed in the chest, believed to be the result of a quarrel with his housemate, at a home in Kampung Kubu Gajah, Sungai Pelong, Sungai Buloh last night. Sungai Buloh police chief Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said they received a call regarding the incident at 11.26pm and, upon arrival at the scene, found the 33-year-old victim lying with a stab wound to the left side of his chest. He said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sungai Buloh Hospital. "The housemate, a 40-year-old man, has been remanded for six days starting today to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
