Countries Must Put Pressure On Israel To Stop Offensive In Gaza
MOSCOW, August 21 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The parties to the Geneva Conventions must urgently put pressure on Israel to stop the attacks on Gaza, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti. "Considering the imminent risk of the further commission of serious violations of international humanitarian law, States parties to the Geneva Conventions are under an urgent obligation to exert maximum pressure on Israel to immediately halt this offensive, which risks triggering an unprecedented, life-threatening humanitarian crisis and permanently extinguishing the Palestinian presence in Gaza's largest urban area," the communique, published on Wednesday, read. Over the past two weeks, OHCHR recorded 54 attacks on residential buildings in Gaza City that killed at least 87 Palestinians, including 25 children, the statement added.
