EastEnders set to air visual impairment storyline

BBC News12-05-2025
EastEnders is working with advice from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) on an upcoming storyline where Lauren and Peter's son is diagnosed as severely sight impaired.
Having struggled to settle baby Jimmy in recent weeks, Lauren becomes concerned by his lack of ability to focus as he struggles to latch during breastfeeding. Determined to follow her mother's instinct, Lauren takes Jimmy to the hospital for further tests where the doctors confirm that Jimmy is severely sight impaired.
The storyline will follow Lauren and Peter as they attempt to navigate life with a newborn, the symptoms that Lauren picks up on which leads her to seek a diagnosis, and how the diagnosis will impact Jimmy and their family as a whole.
Speaking of the storyline, EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw says: 'It was imperative that we worked with RNIB and experts in the field when consulting on Jimmy's visual impairment storyline to ensure it was portrayed sensitively and accurately. The story will continue to develop over time as we look to focus on how the diagnosis affects Lauren and Peter as parents, their family and later, the effects this will have on Jimmy.'
Louise Gow, RNIB's Head of Eye Health, Optometry and Low Vision, says: 'Working with EastEnders on this important storyline involving Lauren, Peter and baby Jimmy has been such a great experience. The team at EastEnders has worked closely with RNIB by listening to our advice and developing a story that authentically captures the experiences of parents of children with visual impairment. While every family's experience is different, the story demonstrates the emotional impact and challenges of vision impairment. It highlights and raises awareness of the support that is available for people with sight loss – parents, carers, children, and young people.'

EastEnders fans call former couple 'endgame' as they finally reunite in steamy scenes

EastEnders fans were overjoyed at the end of Monday night's episode as Ravi Gulati and Priya Nandra-Hart unexpectedly rekindled their relationship in steamy scenes It was an eventful time in Albert Square on Monday, as EastEnders fans were left overjoyed when former couple Ravi Gulati and Priya Nandra-Hart unexpectedly rekindled their romance. ‌ After moving out from Suki Panesar's house after Suki was exposed for asking pregnant teen Avani to keep her baby for her, Avani and her mum Priya moved in with her ex Ravi, Avani's father. Now, it looks like the two could be getting back on track - but one huge thing stands in the way. ‌ The unexpected scenes came after an argument between the two became passionate after Ravi scolded Priya for not taking Avani shopping like he'd promised, after her recent termination. It comes after an EastEnders legend was rushed to hospital after a deadly attack by a familiar face. ‌ Ravi, who still has the police watching over him following his dodgy dealings, opened up about how he felt bad for continuously letting his daughter down. Reassuring her ex, Priya said: "You've been brilliant with her. Getting her away from Suki for a start. And I mean you were probably having a go at Jack to look out for her. I reckon you've been a pretty good dad to her today, even if you didn't take her out." Ravi later opened up about losing the restaurant due to tax problems, but told Priya that she and the kids were all that mattered to him. "Isn't that what you want? Me, you, the kids, a proper family," Ravi said as the pair leaned in to kiss each other. It didn't stop there as the next scene cut to the couple in the bedroom, with Priya telling Ravi: "I thought you'd have learnt a few new things after all these years. Of course, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to react to the raunchy scenes. ‌ One fan wrote: "Priya & Ravi have the potential to be the greatest couple the square has ever seen." Another fan said: "I ship Ravi and Priya so bad," as a third wrote: "I will take Ravi and Priya in any way I can get them." A further fan called them " endgame". However, the conversation quickly turned serious, as Priya told Ravi that she wanted to get back together, which can't happen whilst he's still into "all the shady stuff". Despite Ravi promising Priya he's find a way to be legit again, it doesn't look like it'd be happening anytime soon. At the end of the episode, he was heard telling someone on the phone to "shift as much gear as you can" on Bank Holiday weekend. Will Ravi ever change his ways and will the family be back together for good? Chris Robshaw is forced to invest in top-price security to protect his family after being targeted by a stalker which nearly led him to turn down Strictly

Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Robshaw was forced to invest in top-of-the-range security to keep his family safe from the campaign of harassment by a female stalker over the past year. The former rugby player was one of the 15 celebrities to be announced for the BBC show last week, but it has since emerged he almost turned down the opportunity due to the situation. And now friends of the 39-year-old told the Mail about the toll it has taken on his wife, the opera singer Camilla Kerslake, on her mental health after she has been 'left scared to leave the house on her own with the kids'. Ms Kerslake, 37, shares Hunter, five, and 18-month-old Wilder, with her husband of seven years and a source close to the family said: 'Particularly when she was post-partum, she was petrified she wouldn't be able to outrun this individual. 'Normally she's unbreakable, the backbone of the family, but this has reduced her to a shell of the strong woman we all know. For Chris, watching this has been heartbreaking. 'They have invested in top-of-the-range security systems to keep the family safe.' While the identity of the stalker has not been revealed, it is known that the former Harlequins captain briefly met her twice at work events last year. Instead of asking for presents for her birthday, it can be revealed Ms Kerslake requested security upgrades to their Surrey mansion, which last year she gave OK magazine a guided tour of. The source continued: 'They've talked about the idea of a security guard dog because they love their animals but also Camilla especially, would feel more protected. 'It's heartbreaking that it's come to this but that's how seriously they are taking it. 'This stalker business is no joke. She's destroyed the lives of small business owners, families, and left others thousands of pounds out of pocket. 'The claims she makes are sickening, and some of her victims have been left struggling mentally after their ordeal.' Six months after meeting the woman, Mr Robshaw was then said to have been targeted by the woman, who proceeded to threaten violence and spread false allegations about him and his colleagues, after which he contacted the police. It is reported the woman, who is now on the National Police Wanted List, has fled the country and is being pursued by the police. This year's Strictly cast includes Love Island star Dani Dyer, Geordie Shore's Vicky Pattison, EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal, Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn, Lioness Karen Carney, Lorraine Showbiz correspondent Ross King and influencer Ellie Goldstein, who made history when she became the first model with Down syndrome to cover British Vogue magazine. Rugby player Chris, Neighbours actor Stefan Dennis, YouTuber George Clarke, Doctor Who actress Alex Kingston, The Apprentice star Tom Skinner and sportsman Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will also be taking to the Strictly ballroom next month. The BBC show has endured its fair share of controversy in recent months, with it alleged earlier this month that BBC had hired a law firm to probe allegations of drug taking by two individuals. One of the stars involved in the drugs probe was also suspected of drinking while working on the show after crew smelt alcohol on their breath. Wynne Evans, 53, who competed on the show in 2024, was also accused of inappropriate behaviour and forced to apologise for making an unacceptable sexual remark on stage at a press event, which led to him resigning from the Strictly tour. In 2023, actress Amanda Abbington, 51, complained about professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, 34, being 'unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean' during their rehearsals which she said caused her to quit midway through the season. And in the same year, former Love Island contestant Zara McDermott, 28, was left 'incredibly distressed' following her experience in the training room with Graziano Di Prima, 31, who admitted to kicking the documentary maker, resulting in his axing.
