New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit will visit Australia on July 26–28 to witness the 11th edition of the ongoing Exercise Talisman Sabre, officials said on Friday.
Indian officers have earlier participated in 2021 and 2023 as 'Observers'.
The Indian armed forces' participation in Exercise Talisman Sabre is a 'testimony to India's growing role in multilateral defence diplomacy and its active contribution to a stable Indo-Pacific', the ministry said in a statement.
The exercise presents an invaluable opportunity to deepen military-to-military ties, exchange strategic insights and bolster India's vision of collaborative security engagement.
During his visit, the CISC is scheduled to engage with senior military leaders from armed forces of Australia and other participating nations, and witness various training activities planned under TS25, the officials said.
The visit underscores India's commitment to enhancing defence cooperation and strengthening interoperability with friendly foreign nations. It also reflects the growing stature of the Indian armed forces as a trusted partner in fostering regional security and collective preparedness for future contingencies, it said.
'TS25 will showcase extensive interoperability and joint warfare capabilities across air, land, maritime, space and cyber domains. It will feature complex live-fire drills, amphibious operations, integrated field training and realistic testbed for modern multi-domain operations in support of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific,' the ministry said. 'Outside the Mamdani house were more than 20 special forces command unit guards, some in masks, and there was a phone-jamming system set up — and all for the strictly invite-only Mamdani event,' the witness added. Guests were served fruit juices and they danced to music from a local DJ last Thursday (July 24). As per a witness, Mamdani is believed to have addressed guests later that night, with the party ending after midnight. 'Then on Friday, inside the compound, there were military style tents being taken down when the party had finished,' they added. 'Then what looked like Mamdani personal security guards took over at the gates.' Mamdani had previously confirmed his trip to Uganda on his Instagram, saying he would stay there until the end of the month. ‘Cannot switch off economy': Indian envoy hits back at West's pressure on oil imports from Russia
India's High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, hit back at the West's pressure on New Delhi to halt oil imports from Russia, emphasising that the country cannot simply 'switch off its economy' due to geopolitical tensions. In an interview with Times Radio recently, he further pointed out the inconsistency in the West's stance, highlighting that several European partners continue to buy rare earth and other energy products from the same countries that they refuse to let India buy from. 'Don't you think that that seems a little odd?' Doraiswami said. When questioned about India's close ties with Russia and President Vladimir Putin, he said that New Delhi's relationship with Moscow is built on various metrics. 'One of these is our long-standing security relationship that goes back to an era in which some of our Western partners wouldn't sell us weapons but would sell them to countries in our neighbourhood that use them only to attack us,' the Indian envoy said. He further termed New Delhi's ties with Moscow an 'energy relationship', which he said was the outcome of 'everybody else buying energy from sources that we used to buy from earlier'. 'So we've been displaced out of the energy market largely, and the costs have gone up. We are the third-largest consumer of energy in the world. We import over 80% of our product. What would you have us do? Switch off our economy,' Doraiswami said. 'We also see around us relationships that other countries maintain for their own convenience with countries that are a source of difficulty for us. Do we ask you to come up with a little test of loyalty?' he said. Affirming India's stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Indian envoy said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly asserted that this was not an era of war and that New Delhi is 'very keen' for the conflict to stop. 'He's made that point repeatedly, including with the president of Russia and with the president of Ukraine (Volodymyr Zelensky),' he said. 'We are very keen for this terrible conflict to stop, as we are keen for conflicts across the world to stop,' Mr Doraiswami added. India traditionally relied on the Middle East for its oil supplies. New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday urged leaders of political parties to send representatives who are empowered to take decisions to meetings for finalising the agenda for Parliament. Birla's remarks came as the opposition members sought an assurance from the government on discussion on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar after the conclusion of the debate on Operation Sindoor. The opposition members were in the Well of the House, raising slogans and seeking an assurance before the Lok Sabha took up the discussion on Operation Sindoor. Birla said that at the all-party meeting chaired by him last week, all leaders sought a discussion on Operation Sindoor, which was agreed to, and 16 hours were allocated for the same. 'There is something called commitment. Leaders of all parties had sought a discussion on Operation Sindoor and now you are in the Well of the House raising other issues," he said, addressing opposition members. 'You can't demand a discussion on any issue from the Well of the House. The House runs as per rules of procedure," Birla said. The Speaker told SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, who was on his feet demanding a discussion on SIR, to send a representative who is empowered to take decisions to the all-party meeting. 'If you are not empowered and if someone else has to take decisions, then such persons should not come to the all-party meetings," Birla said. The Lok Sabha was to take up a special discussion on 'India's strong, successful and decisive" Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam at 12 noon. However, when the House convened for the discussion, the opposition parties sought an assurance on the debate on SIR exercise in Bihar.
