Shirdi's Saibaba Sansthan allows only flowers and garlands as offerings

Time of India11 hours ago

Nashik: The Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust in Shirdi has partially lifted its earlier restriction, now permitting devotees to offer flowers and garlands at the temple while maintaining restrictions on other items such as shawls and prasad.
Sansthan CEO Gorakshanath Gadilkar said, "The committee has decided to allow flowers and garlands inside for offering. The temporary ban on various offerings was implemented on May 11 following threats of attack on the temple."
The administration has set up new guidelines requiring devotees to present receipts from florists when bringing flowers or garlands into the temple. "Security personnel will verify these receipts.
This will make it clear what items came from which florists, and at the same time, the receipts will also ensure the pilgrims are not duped," Gadilkar said.
This measure addresses recent incidents where certain florists allegedly overcharged visitors, leading to formal police complaints. The new protocol aims to prevent such exploitation of devotees.
The administration continues to uphold restrictions on prasad and shawl offerings until further notice.

District guardian minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil supported the decision to permit floral offerings, considering its impact on local farmers' livelihoods.
A senior Sansthan official said while the committee implemented necessary security measures following the threat, which later turned out to be a hoax, the ban significantly affected farmers. The minister's concerns about farmers' welfare influenced the committee's decision to permit floral offerings, following a formal presentation.

Guest list for G7 summit tells of global challenges

The G7 may be a small, elite club, but when its leaders gather in Canada, several other national heads will attend as guests -- highlighting the group's efforts to adapt to a fast-changing world. The leaders of India, Ukraine, Mexico, South Africa and South Korea are among a carefully selected guest list drawn up at a time of global turmoil and a radical new US approach to world affairs. Summit invitations have become part of the G7 routine, and the host nation often likes to make a "welcome-to-this-exclusive-club" gesture, Ananya Kumar, of the Atlantic Council's GeoEconomics Center, told AFP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mogi Guaçu: Sofás não vendidos vendidos para próximo de nada, dê uma olhada! Liquidação de Sofás | Links Patrocinados Saiba Mais Undo "The leaders want to meet each other, and you'll see the guests being a part of most of the work that happens." Some hosts "really want certain guests there to show their significance in the global economy," she added. Live Events This year's summit in the Canadian Rockies comes as the G7's share of world GDP has fallen from 63 percent in 1992 to 44 percent today, and as member nations deliberate on troubled relations with China and Russia. "It's important to think of who will be there in the room as they're making these decisions," Kumar said ahead of the three-day event that mixes leadership meetings with "the nitty-gritty ministerial work." Fifty years ago, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States formed the G6, first meeting at a French chateau, before Canada joined the following year. Russia itself was a guest in the early 1990s, becoming a full member of the G8 in 1998 before being expelled in 2014. Notable guests for the summit that starts Sunday include: Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky's presence in Canada is a sign of continuing broad G7 support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia's invasion -- despite Donald Trump 's skepticism. The US president regularly criticizes Zelensky and has upended the West's supply of vital military, financial and intelligence assistance to Ukraine. Zelensky aims to use the summit to press for more US sanctions on Moscow, saying last week "I count on having a conversation" with Trump, who wants a quick peace deal. India Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the last G7 summit as India -- the most populous nation in the world -- takes an evermore important role in geopolitics. But his invitation this year was far from certain. Relations between India and Canada have turned sour over accusations of New Delhi's involvement in the assassination of a Sikh activist in Canada. Modi and new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will have a chance to reset ties. India is also a leading member of BRICS -- a more fractured bloc that includes Russia and China, but which has growing economic clout and is increasingly seen as a G7 rival. Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum's invitation means Canada has ensured that all three members of the USMCA free trade agreement will be present. Trump is seeking to transform the deal when it is up for review next year, as he pursues his global tariff war aimed at shifting manufacturing back to the United States. Enrique Millan-Mejia, of the Atlantic Council's Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, said he expected Mexico to use the summit to touch base with United States on tariffs and the USMCA, but he forecast no major breakthroughs. South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa can expect a friendlier welcome than he got from Trump last month, when their Oval Office meeting included a surprise video alleging the South African government was overseeing the genocide of white farmers. Ramaphosa may hope he can make progress repairing badly strained ties via a quiet word with Trump away from the cameras. The former anti-apartheid activist is attending the summit as South Africa holds the current presidency of the wider G20 group, and he said he plans to push its agenda in Canada. South Korea Carney appears keen to expand the event to bring in other partners that hold views generally aligned with core members. South Korea fits the bill and has emerged since the Ukraine war as a major defense exporter to Europe, although it has stopped short of directly sending arms to Kyiv. Newly elected President Lee Jae-myung, who comes from the left, will attend after winning a snap election triggered by his predecessor's disastrous martial law declaration.

Charting the global economy: Israeli airstrikes boost oil prices

Crude oil prices surged and investors sought the safety of gold after Israel conducted airstrikes on Iranian atomic facilities involved in nuclear enrichment. Economic data in the US showed underlying inflation in May rose by less than forecast for a fourth straight month, while producer price inflation remained muted. While Federal Reserve will likely keep interest rates unchanged at next week's meeting, officials may face more pressure to lower borrowing costs soon. In the UK, the economy shrank in April by the most in 1 1/2 years on large tax increases and US tariffs . Chinese exports to the US slumped the most in more than five years due to higher import duties. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bank Owned Properties For Sale In Duong Nguyen Duc Thuan (Prices May Surprise You) Foreclosed Homes | Search ads Search Now Undo Here are some of the charts that appeared on Bloomberg this week on the latest developments in the global economy , markets and geopolitics: World Bloomberg US President Donald Trump urged Iran to accept a nuclear deal to avoid further attacks, hours after Israel bombed the Islamic Republic's atomic facilities and killed top commanders. Israel said it struck around 100 targets across Iranian cities on Friday morning, using 200 planes. The attacks, which Israel has said will likely continue over the coming days, caused crude oil to surge as much as 14%, though it later pared its gains. Gold hovered near its all-time high. Live Events Bloomberg Rare earths are among the most critical raw materials on the planet, deeply embedded in the technologies that underpin modern life. Yet few people have heard of them or know what they do. They are used across sectors — from semiconductors and iPhones to MRI machines and cancer treatments. China leveraged its dominance of the supply chain to retaliate against American tariffs by restricting the export of rare earths. Bloomberg Central bankers in Peru and Serbia held rates steady this week. Kenya lowered its benchmark rate. US Bloomberg For all the hand-wringing about tariffs, Americans are so far experiencing limited inflation from the Trump administration's trade policy. More broadly, the government's consumer price index report showed underlying inflation rose less than forecast for a fourth month in May. Goods costs, excluding the volatile food and energy categories, were flat compared with a month earlier. Bloomberg Wholesale inflation remained muted in May across the board, another sign that tariffs have yet to result in higher prices for consumers and businesses. Bloomberg The House-passed version of Trump's massive tax and spending bill would deliver a financial blow to the poorest Americans but be a boon for higher-income households, according to a new analysis from the Congressional Budget Office. Europe Bloomberg Sharp tax increases and US tariffs triggered the UK's biggest monthly economic contraction in 18 months, casting doubt over the Labour government's plan to fund its spending ambitions with faster growth. Asia Bloomberg Chinese exports rose last month by less than expected last month as the worst drop in shipments to the US in more than five years counteracted strong demand from other markets. Exports rose almost 5% from a year ago, slower than economists' forecast of 6% growth. Despite that slowdown, record shipments so far this year provided much-needed support for an economy that is stuck in deflation and struggling with weak domestic demand. Bloomberg Inflation is easing across Asia as lower food and fuel prices and stronger local currencies against the dollar push down costs. That's giving the region's central bank chiefs scope to support their trade-reliant economies as the risk of US tariffs and related uncertainty weigh on the outlook. Bloomberg US tariffs threaten to batter Japan's vital auto industry and derail the country's long-standing efforts to engineer a sustainable economic recovery. With the 25% US tariff now in place on cars and auto parts, Japan's major automakers — including Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co., Mazda Motor Corp. and Subaru Corp. — are bracing for a collective hit of more than $19 billion this fiscal year alone. Emerging markets Bloomberg Mexico's inflation accelerated more than expected in May, breaching the top of the target range amid a central bank easing cycle and an economic slowdown.

Air India plane crash: Turkey denies Dreamliner maintenance link; issues clarification

Air India plane crash NEW DELHI: Soon after the Air India passenger plane crash, the Türkiye government issued a statement to debunk claims circulating about the maintenance of the aircraft involved. Some claims had suggested that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which crashed during take-off, had undergone maintenance by Turkish Technic, a leading aviation maintenance company based in Türkiye. "The claim that 'The maintenance of the Boeing 787-8 type passenger plane was carried out by Turkish Technic', made after an Air India passenger plane crashed during take-off, is not true," said the Republic of Türkiye Directorate of Communications Center for Countering Disinformation in a post on X. According to the official statement, the agreements between Air India and Turkish Technic, set for 2024 and 2025, specifically cover maintenance services for B777-type wide-body aircraft only. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner involved in the incident is not included in these agreements. "To date, Turkish Technic has not conducted maintenance on any Air India aircraft of this type," the statement further said. The clarification comes as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, which has raised concerns about aircraft safety and maintenance protocols. The Türkiye government and Turkish Technic have reiterated their commitment to transparency and cooperation with international aviation bodies to ensure the highest standards of safety and maintenance in the aviation industry. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo This comes amid the backdrop of tense ties with Turkey ties after it spoke out in support of Pakistan when India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in its neighbouring nation. Following the anti-India stance, several firms announced severing ties with Turkish firms. Air India also announced plans, earlier this month, to reduce its reliance on Turkish Technic for maintaining its wide-body aircraft. The airline will redirect operations to alternative Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, CEO Campbell Wilson said. This strategic shift aims to optimize maintenance processes and enhance operational efficiency. Turkish Technic currently conducts heavy maintenance for a portion of Air India's Boeing 777 and 787 fleet. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
