Russia's envoy to UN lists ceasefire demands for Ukraine
Vasily Nebenzya, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, has stated that Russia is "in principle" ready to consider a ceasefire with Ukraine, but only if the other side takes reciprocal steps.
Source: Russian media, citing Nebenzya in a speech
Quote: "In principle, we are ready to consider the possibility of establishing a ceasefire regime, which could subsequently allow us to move towards a sustainable resolution of the root causes of the conflict. But for this, we must see reciprocal steps from the other side.
For the duration of the ceasefire, at the very least, Western countries must stop supplying weapons to the Kyiv regime and Ukraine must halt mobilisation."
Details: Nebenzya said that Russia is not satisfied with a scenario that would allow Ukraine to "catch its breath, lick its wounds and stop the collapse of the eastern front".

Zelensky reshuffles military leadership following Russian strike
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made changes at the top of the military leadership. He said in his evening video message on Tuesday that the previous army chief, Mykhailo Drapatyi, has been relieved of organizational tasks such as mobilization, training and preparation of recruits. "Drapatyi will focus exclusively on combat issues and has been appointed Commander of the Joint Forces – so that he can concentrate on the front 100%," Zelensky said. The reduction in his responsibilities was preceded by a fatal Russian missile attack on a military training ground in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Drapatyi himself had offered his resignation via Telegram two days ago as a consequence of the fiasco, in which he said 12 soldiers were killed and dozens were injured. However, the 42-year-old is considered one of Ukraine's most capable generals. Most recently, he stabilized the situation in front of the embattled city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. Observers believe that Zelensky did not want to forgo his leadership qualities at the front. Additionally, Zelensky appointed Oleh Apostol as the head of the paratrooper troops and Robert Brovdi as the head of the drone troops. Vadym Sukharevskyi is to modernize the entire command structure as the new deputy commander of the Eastern Army Group, said Zelensky. Ukraine is under severe pressure at the front in the ongoing Russian invasion, which has lasted more than three years. Politically, Zelensky called for further sanctions to be imposed on Russia following its missile strike on Sumy, in which four civilians were killed and about 30 injured. He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not change his tactics unless he was put under greater pressure.

Fact Check: Trump did not say Ukraine must compensate Russia for destroyed aircraft
Claim: U.S. President Donald Trump said Ukraine must compensate Russia for destroyed aircraft, adding: "They were just sitting there, not bothering anyone. If the Ukrainians had shot them down during a combat mission, that would be a different matter. But they were just sitting there. It's like hitting someone who's already down." Rating: On June 1, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump was rumored to have strongly rebuked Ukraine after the country reportedly hit Russian aircraft with drones. Per a series of viral posts on X and Facebook, Trump allegedly called for Ukraine to compensate Russia for the destroyed aircraft. The posts claimed Trump also said: They were just sitting there, not bothering anyone. If the Ukrainians had shot them down during a combat mission, that would be a different matter. But they were just sitting there. It's like hitting someone who's already down. (Snopes reader) Trump never made the above statement, nor did he call on Ukraine to compensate Russia for destroyed aircraft. We found no evidence in his publicized statements, in the news media or on his social media accounts to corroborate the claim. As such, it is an incorrect attribution. We reached out to the White House for comment on whether Trump made the above statement and will update this story if we get more information. We looked for examples of Trump's comments to the media by searching for parts of the above quote on Google News. We also looked through the White House's transcripts for any similar speeches or statements Trump made to the news media. If Trump had said this in public it would have been widely covered by news media publications. There is also no evidence of such a statement on Trump's social media accounts. Roll Call's archive of Trump's social media on X and TruthSocial found no posts resembling the various forms of the passage, nor did searching for sections of the quote on his X profile or on Trump's Truth, another website dedicated to archiving his Truth Social posts. In June 2025, Ukraine announced it had launched a series of drone strikes on Russian warplanes, with Russia confirming attacks in five regions. Russian and Ukrainian negotiators were headed to Istanbul before the drone strikes took place. Trump had no immediate response to the attack and has not commented as of this writing.
