Sunderland reach verbal agreement with Granit Xhaka; Bayer Leverkusen reject first offer
This comes just 24 hours after Xhaka made it known that if he was to leave Bayer Leverkusen, then it would only be for Sunderland, despite interest from Inter and Milan, as well as a verbal agreement with Saudi club Neom SC – although the Swiss midfielder and his family appeared hesitant on a move to Saudi Arabia. As such, Sunderland are now in pole position.
According to Plettenberg, negotiations between Sunderland and Bayer Leverkusen are now ongoing but the Bundesliga side have rejected an opening offer from the Black Cats, who returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2017. With no agreement, as of yet, in sight, die Werkself are demanding up to €20m for Xhaka.

Jets owner Woody Johnson's Crystal Palace Stake Gets Green Light
Crystal Palace confirmed Thursday that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson's purchase of Eagle Football's shareholding in the Premier League club has been completed. "I am honored and privileged to be joining the ownership group of Crystal Palace Football Club," Johnson told the club website. Palace announced last month that Johnson had signed "a legally binding contract" to buy the shares of fellow American John Textor, who had a 43% stake in the London club, with reports at the time placing the price between $220 million and $260 million. The latest club statement gave no financial details. Johnson joins chairman Steve Parish, Josh Harris and David Blitzer as a partner and director of the club, and has also signed the Premier League's Owners' Charter. "It is an organization with a proud history, tradition, and deep roots in English football in South London, which I came to admire during my time as US Ambassador to the United Kingdom," Johnson said. Palace finished 12th last season in the 20-team Premier League. Johnson's arrival at Palace comes with the club in dispute with UEFA over which European competition it will play in next season after winning the FA Cup in May — its first major trophy in 120 years of existence. Palace was demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League after falling foul of UEFA's rules governing multi-club ownership, but has submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. UEFA determined that as of March 1, Textor had control or influence in Palace and French club Lyon. Conor Coady to Rangers transfer hits further roadblock as another 'collapsed' deal puts Frank Lampard on notice
New Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes says he "liked what he saw" from Conor Coady in their 1-0 win over Zalaegerzegi on Saturday – a potential hint a move to Rangers could be delayed even further. The defender has been a target at Ibrox all summer and we understand both Rangers and Coady are keen to make it happen in time for Thursday's clash with Panathinaikos. Russell Martin has already named his squad for that Champions League qualifying first leg but there is wiggle room to register two new players 24 hours ahead of it if any new signings are in the door by then. And that's not exactly what Martin will want to hear. Cifuentes said after the friendly: 'There are a lot of positive things we can bring with us. There are a lot of things to improve, which is normal at this stage. 'I like the intention, the attitude, and the application of the team. I like that we wanted to be from day one, a team that is dominant and wants to use possession to attack. The timing of the movement and the rotations, everything will come. Even despite Leicester's noted struggles last term, Vardy hit double figures in the English top flight and he might fancy one last stab at European football before he hangs up his boots. The Mail on Sunday report that he has been 'uncharacteristically slow' to decide on his future and indicate he is considering a few options over his future. Whether one of them is Ibrox is unclear but they do note Rangers are a "massive global name" – the likes of which Vardy has never notched on his CV so far. And it's added that prestige could well lead to Vardy choosing them over the likes of Championship new boys Wrexham, who are chasing an unprecedented fourth straight promotion. Elsewhere Carl Rushworth likely won't be joining Rangers after Brighton decided against loaning the keeper to Ibrox – and Coventry could be set to take advantage. The keeper, who was Russell Martin's No.1 at Swansea, was Brighton's second choice for much of last season but is still yet to make his senior debut for the Seagulls. Reports earlier this summer indicated Rangers were keen on bringing him in to compete with Jack Butland and Liam Kelly. But more recently it's been claimed that deal is off with Rangers instead looking at Sheffield Wednesday's Pierce Charles. Frank Lampard's Coventry may be the side to pounce on Rushworth though and former Aston Villa defender Lee Hendrie told Football League World: "You look at any player or any goalkeeper really that's played or been around the top level, then I think it's a big coup for any football club to bring in someone whose Premier League bound, and particularly being linked with Rangers, which looks like it's collapsed. 'I think Frank (Lampard) will be looking at that and knowing it's a really good signing. "I think that's an area they haven't really struggled with goalkeeper-wise, but having someone of his calibre would be a really good addition to Coventry City.' I think that's what's got to happen with Leeds." And the 49ers are currently trying to maximise the profit on Igamane - who arrived at Ibrox in a £1.7m move from AS FAR last summer. Rangers are standing firm on their £15million valuation of the striker amid ongoing talks with Lille - with the French side now reportedly "struggling" to get a deal over the line. Everton are among the suitors now showing interest with the door opening - with Udinese and Feyenoord on alert. Igamane could jolt the new look player-trading model into life - with Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman understood to be among the contenders to replace the Morocco international.
