A mural of Kobe Bryant in a Dodgers jersey has emerged in L.A.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and their fans are also big supporters of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend. In 2000, he threw out the first pitch at a Dodgers game, and the defending World Series champions held a bobblehead night in his honor on Aug. 8 when they defeated the Toronto Blue Jays.
Over the years, a number of murals depicting Bryant have gone up across the area. Gustavo Zermeño Jr., a mural artist, has put one up of Bryant wearing a Dodgers jersey.
This mural also honors the Dodgers' run to the world championship last season. It is located in Redondo Beach, a coastal suburb of Los Angeles in the South Bay region, and according to KABC 7, it is expected to be completed just days from now before Aug. 23, which would've been Bryant's 47th birthday.

Mets release Paul Blackburn after right-hander clears waivers
Nolan McLean's big league promotion last weekend resulted in the Mets designating Paul Blackburn for assignment, and now the veteran right-hander is free to pitch in a different uniform. The Mets announced the release of Blackburn on Tuesday, after he declined an outright assignment to the minors and cleared waivers on Monday. While the team is still responsible for the remainder of the 31-year-old's salary, he's only making the pro-rated league minimum. Blackburn dealt with a lot this season, which started with him on the IL with right knee inflammation. The right-hander didn't make his season debut until June 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, when he pitched five scoreless innings. From there, things went downhill. After a slew of ineffective outings, Blackburn went back on the IL with a right shoulder impingement, which he had been rehabbing for the last month. Healthy once again but with few spots available after the Mets fortified their bullpen at the trade deadline, the veteran was activated on Aug. 13 and pitched that day against the Atlanta Braves. In what would end up being his final appearance for New York, Blackburn went five innings in what was a blowout loss to save the rest of the bullpen. In seven games (four starts), the right-hander had a 6.85 ERA. Joining the Mets at last season's trade deadline, Blackburn only made 12 appearances during his time in New York after spending eight seasons playing for the Athletics. In his career, the veteran owns a 4.96 ERA in 452 innings. Meanwhile, McLean said Friday he was "surprised" to get the promotion, but is ready for his MLB debut. He's pitched to a 2.45 ERA with 127 strikeouts in 113.2 innings in the minors this season. The 24-year-old made five starts in Double-A before heading to Triple-A, where he owned a 2.78 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 16 outings.

Baxter reported that Betts met with Roberts and the president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman, after the loss, and suggested that the timing of the meeting was no coincidence. Betts may be looking to get back into the outfield. "The Betts conversation afterward was private," wrote Baxter. "But the circumstances that led to it were not. Clearly the bullpen is not the Dodgers' only problem." Betts has struggled offensively, and perhaps a move back to his original position could help. Betts played shortstop last season, but ended up back in right field. This year, he has made all of his starts at shortstop. Not only would Betts' playing in the outfield help the Dodgers' defense, it could lengthen the lineup. Conforto has been the primary left fielder, with Alex Call seeing some time, too. Betts joining the outfield group would be an upgrade over both of them. Meanwhile, in the infield, the Dodgers could use Hyeseong Kim at second base when he returns and allow Miguel Rojas or Alex Freeland to play shortstop. When Tommy Edman returns, Kim and Edman could take over the middle of the infield regularly. Kiké Hernández could also be back soon, giving the Dodgers more infield options if Betts is in right field. The Dodgers could move Hernández to left field to get Betts back into right field. It may be what Betts met with Roberts and Friedman about, and it's hard to think otherwise after how the game unfolded. Spurs' Carter Bryant honors family member with jersey number selection
Rookie Carter Bryant will begin his career in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs with a new jersey number after wearing No. 9 as a freshman last season at Arizona. Bryant wore it in various events before joining the Wildcats, such as the McDonald's All-American Game and the Pangos All-American Camp. He was forced to change it upon joining the Spurs, with it retired to honor Hall of Famer Tony Parker. The 14th pick also wore a few other numbers, though each one was taken on the team. He opted to go with No. 11, which is the same number his uncle wore. "I wanted nine," Bryant said. "Obviously, Tony Parker has nine retired. (De'Aaron) Fox has four. Steph Castle has five. Dylan (Harper) got two. I was a Kawhi fan, so I was trying to get the two. Vic (Wembanyama) got one, so then I went through all of the numbers I liked and which ones looked good.
