Evans scored the first nine points of the second quarter to give the Aces the lead for good and finished with 14 points. Jackie Young added 14 points for Las Vegas (12-11), which plays its next four on the road. NaLyssa Smith had 11 points.
Allisha Gray led the Dream (13-10) with 24 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Canada added 12 points. Atlanta is without All-Star and leading scorer Rhyne Howard due to a knee injury. She missed the last two games before the All-Star break and will miss at least four more.
A 3-pointer by Te-Hina Paopao had the Dream within 68-62 with 7:48 to play, but the Aces had a seven-point run to get the lead back to 13 points and Atlanta never threatened again.
The Dream led 27-20 after one quarter behind Gray's 12 points and a closing 15-3 run. Atlanta was 7 of 15 overall, but 5 of 8 behind the arc and were plus-8 from the foul line. The Dream were 4 of 19 from distance over the last three quarters and shot 38.5% overall.
Evans put the Aces up 29-27 with her second quarter run and had 11 in the quarter when Vegas had a 25-12 advantage to lead 45-39 at the half.
The Aces got the lead to 14 in the middle of the third quarter before the Dream cut the deficit to 67-59 entering the fourth.

Home again? Why Kenley Jansen could be a good trade match for Dodgers
Kenley Jansen signed his first professional contract with the Dodgers 21 years ago. He was Clayton Kershaw's catcher in rookie ball. He has been honored as an All-Star four times. He has saved more games than all but three men in major league history, all of them Hall of Famers. He won a World Series with the Dodgers. For all that Jansen has accomplished in his two decades in pro ball, there is one thing he has not experienced: He never has been traded. That could happen in the coming days, with baseball's trade deadline next Thursday. As we talked about that possibility Friday at Angel Stadium, and about how the sport can be a cold business at times, he dropped 11 words that stood out. 'I thought,' he said, 'I would play my whole career with the Dodgers.' Maybe you can go home again. The Dodgers are urgently shopping for right-handed relievers. In Anaheim, Jansen is enjoying a season that by some measures is his best since 2021, his last season with the Dodgers. First things first: Jansen did not sign with the Angels just to rack up saves. He is 36 saves shy of 500, a milestone reached only by Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman. 'I came here with one goal in mind,' Jansen said, 'and the goal was to help this team turn around, to end that playoff drought. That's what I'm here for. 'If they move me, I'd definitely feel disappointed we didn't accomplish it.' But let's be real: The longest playoff drought in the majors is likely to hit 11 years. The Angels would have to pass six teams to sneak into the last wild-card spot in the American League playoffs. The Angels demoted their fifth starter this month. They have been running bullpen games because they had no one in their farm system ready to fill the vacancy. They only have two starters you could pencil into their 2026 rotation. They need pitching depth, and it would be organizational malpractice not to get some by trading their pending free agents, Jansen included. For the Angels, the optimal outcome would be a team desperate for a closer overpaying to get Jansen. However, such a team would be more likely to overpay for the marquee names on the market, including Jhoan Duran of the Minnesota Twins, Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians and Felix Bautista of the Baltimore Orioles, with a second tier led by David Bednar of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Ryan Helsley of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers hate to overpay. Jansen has 17 saves and one blown save, with a 1.00 earned-run average in save situations and a 3.19 ERA overall. The latter is his lowest ERA since 2021. By ERA+, a statistic that accounts for league and ballpark factors, Jansen was at 131 entering play Friday — or 31% better than league average. The only Dodgers relievers with an ERA above 131+, entering play Friday: left-handers Alex Vesia and Jack Dreyer. Dodgers relievers entered play Friday throwing 49.2% of the team's innings pitched; the highest percentage of any major league team. Vesia, Anthony Banda and the injured Tanner Scott rank among the top 20 in appearances. Ben Casparius, who earned his first major league save Friday, ranked second among major league relievers in innings pitched. In an ideal world, the Dodgers would enter the playoffs with four primary right-handed relievers: Blake Treinen, Michael Kopech, Brusdar Graterol and Evan Phillips. Phillips is out for the season. Treinen could return from the injured list next week, with Kopech possibly to follow next month and Graterol in September, but it is risky to count on injured players to return healthy and effective. In a major league career that started in 2010, Jansen never has been on the injured list because of an elbow or forearm issue, and his two stints for shoulder inflammation were brief. The Dodgers could drop Jansen into their mix of high-leverage right-handers. They would not want Jansen if he would want to be the unquestioned closer. He is getting the job done as a closer, and he is getting closer to 500 saves. But the Dodgers' analysts would probably take note of his career highs in exit velocity and hard-hit balls, and a .795 OPS against left-handers that compares unfavorably to his .601 career mark, and might want to spot him against a run of right-handers. Could be the sixth inning, could be the ninth. Whether it's the Dodgers or any other contending team, would Jansen consider a role outside the ninth inning? 'At that point, it's just about getting rings,' Jansen said. 'My goal is to win. You play for that, always. I understand there is a milestone I am close to. But, at the end of the day, it's what you play for. You play to win. You play to win a World Series. 'If I have to go throw the sixth, seventh, eighth, I would do it. I'm a professional. I would do what I do best, and that is pitch.' Jansen said he hasn't given up on this Angels team, or this Angels season. He would love to win in Anaheim. The Angels could help him do that: Trade him for another pitching piece that could help them next year, then sign Jansen again over the winter.

Ahead of Dick Allen's Baseball Hall of Fame induction, Chicago White Sox teammates reflect on his lasting impact
Goose Gossage attempted to find his groove during a workout session leading into the 1972 season. The Chicago White Sox rookie pitcher noticed Dick Allen stroll over. 'I haven't even met him, I haven't even laid eyes on him — it's like (an) out of body (experience),' Gossage recalled in a recent phone interview. Allen, a new addition to the club after an offseason trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, initially stood off to the side and watched. And then he stepped in. 'And I think, 'Oh, my God, I'm going to kill Dick Allen,'' Gossage said. 'I'm throwing hard and I'm getting a workout in. He's tracking every ball all the way into the catcher's glove. Really concentrating. 'I can see the focus that he had. And watching every pitch that I threw and the movement and everything.' When Gossage wrapped up, Allen came over for a formal introduction. 'And from there, it started,' Gossage said. 'He took me under his wing and taught me the game of baseball like no one.' That education, on and off the field, helped Gossage along the way to a Hall of Fame career. Allen's Cooperstown moment posthumously arrives Sunday as part of the 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The class also features CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Billy Wagner and the late Dave Parker. Allen and Parker were elected by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee in December. After missing out by one vote in his two previous times on a ballot, Allen received 13 out of a possible 16 committee votes (81%) to earn enshrinement — clearing the 75% threshold. 'He deserves to be there,' Sox teammate Carlos May said in a phone interview. 'It's great for him to finally be there. I'd rather see it in his lifetime.' Gossage cried on and off all evening after hearing the news. 'What I was crying about is he's not here to enjoy this,' Gossage said. 'I got goosebumps, no pun intended. What this man meant to me, I just can't hardly put into words.' Allen, who died in December 2020 at age 78, had 351 home runs, 1,119 RBIs and a .292 average during a 15-year major-league career with the Philadelphia Phillies (1963-69, '75-76), St. Louis Cardinals (1970), Dodgers (1971), Sox (1972-74) and Oakland Athletics (1977). During his 11-year peak (1964-74), Allen's 165 OPS+ was the top in baseball. He was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1964 with the Phillies and garnered seven All-Star selections — including three with the Sox. 'Every time you got around him, it was 'What's this guy going to be capable of doing next?' Sox teammate Tony Muser said in a phone interview. 'I was honored to be on the same club that he was.' The Sox acquired Allen in a December 1971 trade, sending Tommy John and Steve Huntz to the Dodgers. He hit .307 with 85 home runs and 242 RBIs in his three years with the Sox, earning American League MVP honors in 1972. 'He would hit one 500 feet and I would shoot one to left field,' May said. The two finished in the top five in the AL in hitting in 1972. 'He'd steal a base and I'd drive him in. We had a great lineup, some good ballplayers. He led by example.' Sox teammate Tom Bradley said in a phone interview that Allen was 'like a Teddy Roosevelt, talk softly but carry a big stick. The bat he used weighed 40 or 42 ounces. 'He was a quiet leader, just went out there and produced.' Allen took that production to another level in 1972, when he hit .308 with 37 home runs, 113 RBIs, 99 walks and a .603 slugging percentage. 'Ducks on the pond, he was a different Dick Allen,' Gossage said. 'He set pitchers up like you've never seen. From A to Z, I never saw anybody do what Dick Allen did.' The 1972 season began with Allen hitting a home run in the ninth inning that briefly gave the Sox the lead against the Royals. His heroics throughout the season kept the Sox in a fight for the top spot in the AL West with the Athletics while rejuvenating baseball on the South Side. Gossage said Allen would have hits that 'defied physics.' During their time as teammates, Gossage said Allen clued him in on the importance of every part of the game. 'He taught me how to watch every little thing — how to watch cutoffs, how to watch where throws are, what the situation is on flyballs. What he's thinking as a hitter,' Gossage said. 'I could never mention Dick Allen's name without it being educational. 'Everything he did was teach you the game. The passion that that man had for this game, oh, my God.' That passion and performance will forever be recognized at the Hall of Fame. 'As far as true athleticism, strength and speed and instincts, I never saw a player better,' Muser said.
