Uttarakhand: Chamoli Police escort first group of Sikh pilgrims for Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025
Chamoli (Uttarakhand) [India], May 24 (ANI): The first batch of Sikh devotees, led by the Panch Pyaras, commenced their journey to Shri Hemkund Sahib for the 2025 pilgrimage. The group departed carrying the Nishan Sahib (holy flag) under full police protection, Chamoli Police said in a post on X.
In their message, Chamoli Police stated, 'Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025: The first group of Sikh devotees, led by the Panch Pyaras, has set out for Shri Hemkund Sahib with the Nishan Sahib and complete police security.'
The police have ensured comprehensive security arrangements to facilitate a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all devotees.
Following the departure of the first batch of pilgrims for Hemkund Sahib on Thursday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed devotees from across the country and the world, emphasising the state's commitment to a secure and well-managed pilgrimage to the revered Sikh shrine near Joshimath in Chamoli district.
The portals of Hemkund Sahib, situated at a height of over 15,000 feet above sea level, will open on May 25. The shrine is visited by lakhs of devotees every summer.
Addressig the media as the first batch departed for the pilgrimage, CM Dhami said, 'The doors of Shri Hemkund Sahib will open on May 25. All the arrangements have been made for the devotees.'
'I thank PM Modi as the Government of India has approved the ropeway for Kedarnath and Shri Hemkund Sahib. The difficult journey will become very easy in the coming time. We welcome all the devotees coming from across the country and the world,' the Chief Minister added.
Uttarakhand Governor, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), also welcomed the devotees and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and other administration for preparing the arrangements.
'We see it as 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. I thank the Chief Minister, the administration, and the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee for working so hard to make every devotee's visit successful,' the Governor said.
Singh also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritising the Hemkund Sahib and Kedarnath ropeway projects.
CM Dhami also urged pilgrims to show respect and salute Army personnel while undertaking the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage, highlighting the importance of honouring the forces ensuring their safety.
He highlighted that over 11 lakh devotees have participated in the Char Dham Yatra so far. He shared this during the flag-off ceremony of the first group of pilgrims embarking on the Hemkund Sahib Yatra from Rishikesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhami said, 'So far, more than 11 lakh devotees have completed their Darshan. The area of Shri Hemkund Sahib has a rich ecosystem. It is our pledge to protect the environment here. We have pledged to make this Yatra plastic-free. You are requested to follow the rules made by the ancestors during the Yatra.'
Dhami also highlighted the amenities provided by the government for the devotees' convenience. (ANI)

Gadchiroli (Maharashtra) [India], June 6 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday that around 12 naxals, having a total bounty of over Rs one crore, surrendered before him in Gadhchiroli. Speaking with the media, CM Fadnavis urged the Naxals to surrender, adding that if they don't, then action will be taken against them. 'Today, around 12 naxals with a total bounty of over Rs 1 crore surrendered before me here. This is a big blow to Naxalism. The Naxals want to join the mainstream now. I believe this is a significant incident. There are very few Naxals left in the state today. I urge them to surrender. If they do not surrender, then action will be taken against them,' the Maharashtra CM said. According to a press note from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, a total of 704 active Maoists till date have surrendered before the Gadchiroli Police. It mentioned the 12 Maoists who surrendered today. 'Today, twelve Senior Maoist Cadre Sapana (55), Ramdas (55), Shivlal (60), Pushpa (55), Kosa Kumma Gota (Commander of Kutul LOS) aged 35 years, Durgi (35), Ajay (27), Sangita (40), Savita (35), Anju (25), Aruna (30) and Dilip (28) have surrendered before the Chief Minister,' the release stated. The release also mentioned the rewards announced by the Centre and Maharashtra government for the surrendered Naxals.'After surrender, Sapana, Ramdas, Shivlal, and Pushpa will receive Rs 8.5 Lakhs as reward declared by the Central & Maharashtra Government for rehabilitation,' the release stated. Kosa Kumma Gota will receive Rs. 5.5 Lakhs, Durgi and Ajay receive Rs 05 Lakhs, while Sangita, Savita, Anju and Aruna will receive Rs 4.5 lakhs. Dilip will receive Rs 5 lakhs as reward for rehabilitation. 'State government has announced a reward of Rs. 1.5 lakhs as additional assistance to Maoist members who are husband and wife for their surrender. (Shivlal Pada and his wife Pushpa),' the release said. Devendra Fadnavis also attended the mass wedding ceremony of surrendered Naxalites in Gadchiroli. Speaking on this, he said, '13 couples who were earlier naxals got married in a mass wedding ceremony today. They not only surrendered but also joined the mainstream.' Earlier today, CM Fadnavis visited the Kawande Police Outpost on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border in the Gadchiroli district. This outpost was set up by the Maharashtra Police in March this year. Speaking with ANI, CM Fadnavis highlighted that earlier, even the administration could not reach here, but the Maharashtra Police opened an outpost here, thus providing security to the people here. 'Kawande is like the first village at the border or the village that comes first after entry from Chhattisgarh. There is the Abujhmarh forest nearby, and even the administration could not reach here. But our Police opened an outpost here. Due to this outpost, not just Police dominance, but we also filled a security vacuum. We also set up a 4G tower here. Police provided security, and we provide government schemes through this outpost. So, this has built confidence among people,' CM Fadnavis asserted. Speaking on the deadline to eliminate naxalism, the Maharashtra CM emphasised that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged that the country will be Naxalism-free by March 2026. Bangladesh political parties express mixed reactions over announcement of national election
Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 6 (ANI): Political parties in Bangladesh on Friday expressed mixed reactions to the announcement of the national election. Bangladesh's largest political party, BNP, expressed its disappointment over the timing of the election but Jamaat-e-Islami expressed satisfaction over the announcement. Chief Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, on Friday announced that the next national election will be held in the first half of April 2026. BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said the announcement of national election has not fulfilled expectations of people. He said more than 50 parties want elections by December and if the government wanted, it could have held the elections by January. He said that the first half of April is 'an unreasonable time for voting'. Due to Ramadan, SSC exams and weather conditions, it will not be a suitable environment for election work at that time, he said. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman expressed satisfaction and said an announcement has been made on the timing of the election. The Chief Adviser earlier said that the Election Commission will provide a detailed roadmap for the elections in due course 'I am announcing to the countrymen today that the next national elections will be held sometime in the first half of April 2026. Based on this announcement, the Election Commission will provide you with a detailed roadmap for the elections in due course,' he said an address to the nation through state television BTV on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted in a student-led uprising in August last year. She is now living in India on self-imposed exile. Chhattisgarh CM meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah, shares achievements of anti-Naxal operations
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday. According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), during the meeting, the Chief Minister provided a detailed briefing on the state's recent successes in anti-Maoist operations and the ongoing development initiatives in the Bastar region. CM Sai informed the Home Minister that the anti-Naxal campaign has reached a decisive phase with the state's renewed strategy and the continued support of the Centre. Intensive operations conducted over the past one and a half years have yielded significant results, including the surrender of 1,428 Maoists, a remarkable increase compared to the previous five years. He further stated that 205 encounters occurred during this period, eliminating 427 Maoists, including top leaders such as Baswaraju, the Maoist general secretary, and Central Committee member Sudhakar. The state has also established 64 new forward security camps, substantially strengthening the security grid in the affected regions. The Chief Minister noted that the areas surrounding these security camps are now rapidly gaining access to basic services like electricity, drinking water, healthcare, and education. Under the 'Niyad Nellanar Yojana', 146 villages have been identified where 18 types of integrated community services and 25 government schemes are being actively implemented, leading to a noticeable increase in local trust in the government machinery. Union Home Minister Amit Shah appreciated the Chief Minister's detailed progress report and lauded the Chhattisgarh government's decisive action against Maoist violence. He assured that the central government will continue to extend full support to the state in its fight against Left-Wing Extremism and in ensuring sustainable development in tribal and remote areas. This high-level meeting reaffirmed the Centre-State synergy in combating extremism and highlighted Chhattisgarh's evolving success story, one where peace and development are steadily replacing decades of insurgency.
