
Cops recover RM2mil worth of stolen casino chips
Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said following a media report on Friday (Aug 8), a man came forward to hand over 200 chips, each valued at RM10,000, which he had bought from a suspect who was part of a junket.

"The victim, who is also one of the junket (attendees) at the casino, had bought the 200 chips from the suspect at a hotel lobby on Aug 2 via handover without any written agreement,' he told a press conference after the Pahang police contingent monthly assembly here on Tuesday (Aug 12).
He said police, in cooperation with Interpol, are tracking down the suspect, who is believed to have left the country with the remaining 100 chips worth RM1mil.

Comm Yahaya said CCTV footage showed the suspect taking the chips and then heading to the car park before hurriedly leaving the casino and heading to Kuala Lumpur International Airport the same day.
The case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust.
Earlier, the media reported that police had received a report from a 32-year-old junket company manager who said the chips had been taken from a closed casino room at the resort. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: An army officer arrested during Ops Sohor on suspicion of being involved in a smuggling syndicate is also believed to be the mastermind of a drug trafficking ring. Meanwhile, Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that four individuals were arrested on suspicion of being involved in a drug smuggling syndicate. The suspects included a military officer believed to be the mastermind, a local man and two foreign women. The seizures comprised 70 packets of Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) powder weighing 1.1kg, cannabis (92g), ketamine (22g), liquid MDMA (64g) and ecstasy (0.6g), all weighing a total of 1.3kg and worth RM30,000, he said. – Bernama

Lorry driver who run over policeman with 4WD charged with attempted murder
KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Thursday (Aug 14) to a charge of attempting to kill a policeman by running him over with a four-wheel drive vehicle, causing him to suffer injuries. Muhammad Farhan Baharudin, 34, was charged with committing the offence against Koperal Mohamad Sallehin Ab Rahman, 35, causing the victim to suffer an 'abrasion wound over right knee and right elbow bruising over right lower chest wall', injuries which could have been fatal. The offence was allegedly committed at the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (AKLEH) exit to Jalan Tun Razak at 9.05am on Aug 8 this year. The charge, under Section 307 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine or imprisonment for a maximum of 20 years if injury is caused upon conviction. Judge Izralizam Sanusi allowed him bail of RM8,000 with one surety and also ordered him to report to a nearby police station once a month. The court set Oct 6 for mention. Lorry driver pleads not guilty to attempted murder of policeman in KL

Muhammad Farhan Baharudin, 34, was charged in the Sessions Court today over the incident involving Corporal Mohamad Sallehin Ab Rahman, 35. The victim suffered an abrasion wound on his right knee and bruising on his right lower chest wall, injuries deemed potentially fatal. The alleged offence occurred on August 8 at the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (AKLEH) exit to Jalan Tun Razak at 9.05 am. The charge falls under Section 307 of the Penal Code, carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine. If injury is proven, the sentence could extend to 20 years upon conviction.
