Chevrolet Just Claimed the Title For…
The fastest official Nürburgring laps set by an American manufacturer. Chevy brought three of its latest high-performance Corvettes, the Z06, ZR1, and the new electrified ZR1X, to the legendary Nordschleife circuit and set official times for all three in a single visit, piloted not by professional racers, but by the very engineers who developed them.
Record-Breaking Facts
The Chevrolet team unleashed its trio of production-spec supercars on the 12.9-mile track, known as 'The Green Hell,' with remarkable results. The only modifications were track-mandated safety equipment.
The new Corvette ZR1X, with 1,250-horsepower, laid down a stunning lap time of 6:49.275 . This not only makes it the fifth-fastest production car ever to lap the circuit but also secures its driver, vehicle dynamics engineer Drew Cattell, the fastest lap ever recorded at the Nürburgring by a non-professional driver.
. This not only makes it the fifth-fastest production car ever to lap the circuit but also secures its driver, vehicle dynamics engineer Drew Cattell, the fastest lap ever recorded at the Nürburgring by a non-professional driver. The Corvette ZR1, boasting a 1,064-horsepower twin-turbo V8, was close behind. Vehicle dynamics engineer Brian Wallace piloted it to an impressive 6:50.763 lap.
lap. The Corvette Z06, powered by the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 in a production car at 670 horsepower, was driven by vehicle performance manager Aaron Link to a time of 7:11.826.
Why It's a Landmark Achievement
What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is the approach Chevrolet took. Instead of hiring professional racing drivers, the company put the engineers who live and breathe these cars in the driver's seats. Drew Cattell, Brian Wallace, and Aaron Link are still highly experienced drivers with a combined 36 years of experience working on performance cars and over 1,800 laps of the Nürburgring between them. 'No auto manufacturer has done a Nürburgring lap attempt like this before,' said GM President Mark Reuss. 'These weren't piloted by pro racecar drivers. They were driven by the same engineers who designed, engineered, and tuned them.'
A New Benchmark for American Performance
The Chevy Corvette has once again set new benchmarks for American sports cars. The Corvette ZR1X and ZR1 now stand as the fastest American cars ever to tackle the Green Hell, proving that America's sports car can compete with the best in the world, right in their backyard.

Reports: Eagles acquire CB Jakorian Bennett from Raiders

August 5 - The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles added depth to a solid secondary, acquiring cornerback Jakorian Bennett in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, multiple media outlets reported Monday night. The Raiders reportedly received reserve defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV in the swap. Bennett, 24, appeared in 10 games for Las Vegas last season, making seven stops. He finished with 26 tackles and eight passes defensed. A fourth-round draft pick in 2023 out of Maryland, Bennett played in 14 games and started four times as a rookie. In his two seasons overall, he has 58 tackles and 11 passes defensed. Booker, 25, appeared in every regular-season game for Philadelphia last year, starting once. However, he was in on only 17 percent of the Eagles' defensive plays and seven percent of the special teams snaps. He had 18 tackles, one sack and one pass defense. The Texans made him a fifth-round pick out of Stanford in 2022. He appeared in 10 games (one start) for Houston that year -- his lone NFL experience before 2024. For the Texans, he recorded 15 tackles, 0.5 sacks and one pass defensed. The Eagles open the preseason on Thursday against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals, then officially start defense of their title against the visiting Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 4. The Raiders start preseason play Thursday on the road against the Seattle Seahawks, then open the regular season on the road vs. the New England Patriots on Sept. 7. --Field Level Media

Yohel Pozo's pinch-hit single sends Cardinals past Dodgers

August 5 - Masyn Winn and Ivan Herrera hit home runs, Yohel Pozo delivered a go-ahead, pinch-hit single in the ninth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals pulled off a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday in the opener of a three-game series. Cardinals right-hander Sonny Gray shook off recent struggles to give up one run on one hit over seven innings as St. Louis improved to 2-2 on a six-game road trip to San Diego and Los Angeles. Gray, who struck out eight and walked one, permitted 17 earned runs and 30 hits over his previous three outings combined. Freddie Freeman homered and Tyler Glasnow went seven strong innings, but the Dodgers still lost in the opener of a six-game homestand. Glasnow yielded one run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. It was his second seven-inning outing in five starts since returning from a 2 1/2-month stint on the injured list caused by shoulder inflammation. The Cardinals' go-ahead run in the ninth came against new Dodgers right-hander Brock Stewart, who was acquired at the trade deadline Thursday from the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota greeted Stewart (2-2) with consecutive singles by Willson Contreras and Lars Nootbaar. Two outs later, Pozo singled to right-center for a one-run lead. Shohei Ohtani led off the Dodgers' ninth with a single off left-hander JoJo Romero, but Mookie Betts was robbed of a hit on a diving catch from Nootbaar in right field. Romero closed it out for his second save. Winn gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead with a home run to left field in the second inning, his eighth of the year. The Dodgers got even in the fourth on Freeman's home run to right field, his 13th of the season and third in five games. The Cardinals took a brief 2-1 lead on Herrera's home run off left-hander Anthony Banda in the eighth, his 10th. The Dodgers tied in the bottom of the frame on a leadoff double from Teoscar Hernandez and consecutive groundouts. St. Louis right-hander Riley O'Brien (1-0) picked up his first career win despite giving up a run in the eighth. --Field Level Media
