'India is sustaining the growth and it is the fastest growing economy now for the fourth year continuously thanks to the work of small, medium, and large industries; industries which are coming in and making sure our manufacturing capacity, our service capacity are all intact. Agriculture has also sustained us even during Covid and subsequently,' Sitharaman said.
She said India's manufacturing activity has been 'good' during the January-March period, which has helped clock a GDP growth of 7.4 per cent during the quarter and 6.5 per cent for the full 2024-25 fiscal.
New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said India is sustaining its GDP growth momentum as the fastest-growing economy for the fourth year in a row, aided by manufacturing, services and farm sectors.
The 6.5 per cent GDP growth for FY'25 comes on a high base of FY'24 when the economy grew at 9.2 per cent. The 7.4 per cent growth in the March quarter was also on a high base of 8.4 per cent in FY'24.
Speaking at the Lakshmipat Singhania -IIM Lucknow National Leadership Award, the Minister said during the January-March quarter there were views that industry was not investing enough, capacities were not increasing and questioned its impact on the economy.
'I'm glad, India's industry.. the manufacturing activity have all been good during Q4 of 2024-25 and there was a real GDP growth of 7.4 per cent in Q4 alone. As a result, for the entire financial year of 2024-25 (April-March), the real GDP growth was 6.5 per cent,' Sitharaman said.
During the fourth quarter of FY'25, manufacturing output grew at 4.8 per cent, as against 11.3 per cent in the same quarter of FY'24.
The services sector expanded 7.3 per cent in the March quarter, while the farm sector growth was 5.4 per cent.
Sitharaman said every year the Government is working to remove regulatory difficulties and bring in soft-touch regulation, which will allow people to do business without suspicion.
She said she is open to receiving suggestions for removing hurdles to business in easing regulatory hurdles.
'We are at that part of India's history where it just requires all of us to have confidence in our country's abilities and belief that we can definitely deliver that goal.. how long more are we going to say we are a developing country.
'When our own people are going all over the world and working at leadership levels in various sectors. '¦ It's time for all of us to get out of the suspicion that we have in our minds, will India be able to do, will India be able to reach? Yes, we can,' she said.
She said in achieving the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, the country needs to come out of the evil of petty corruption. PTI JD MR

Google says hackers are using fake Salesforce app to attack businesses

Hackers are targeting employees at companies across Europe and the Americas using a sophisticated social engineering campaign involving a modified Salesforce app, 's cybersecurity arm has said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to Google's Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG), the attackers—identified as UNC6040—have been 'particularly effective' in deceiving corporate users into installing a fake version of Salesforce Data Loader , a legitimate tool used for importing large datasets into Salesforce environments. How hackers are targeting large companies The team at Google explains that the hackers impersonate official Salesforce representatives and are calling employees to direct them to a fake app setup page. There, users are tricked into authorising a malicious version of the Data Loader app that mimics the original software. Once installed, the app grants attackers significant access to sensitive corporate data. Google researchers noted that the hackers can exfiltrate confidential information, query internal systems, and in many cases, pivot to attack other cloud services and internal networks. As per the researchers, technical indicators suggest that the campaign has ties to 'The Com', a loosely organised cybercriminal ecosystem known for orchestrating both online fraud and real-world violence. What Google and Salesforce have to say A Google spokesperson told news agency Reuters that at least 20 organisations have been affected by the UNC6040 operation over the past several months, with some suffering successful data breaches and extortion attempts. Meanwhile, Salesforce, stated that the issue does not stem from any vulnerability in its platform. A company spokesperson emphasised that the attacks rely on voice phishing (vishing) tactics and exploit gaps in employee cybersecurity awareness. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'There's no indication the issue described stems from any vulnerability inherent in our platform,' the spokesperson said, adding that the number of affected customers is small and the threat is not considered widespread. Salesforce had previously issued a warning in March 2025, cautioning users about vishing attacks and the risks posed by malicious versions of Data Loader. After long delay, a new census

India will finally start its new census from March 2027, the ministry of home affairs announced on June 4. The announcement puts the reference date at March 1, 2027, except for high-altitude hilly areas where the reference date is October 1, 2026. To be sure, one has to wait for the detailed gazette notification to ascertain whether these reference dates are for population enumeration or house-listing. The latter has traditionally preceded the former by a few months in the conduct of the census in India. The census is being conducted with a delay of six years. While the government has always maintained, including in the latest press release, that the delay was on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, the claim does not pass muster. India has conducted many statistical and mass exercises, including multiple surveys and elections since the pandemic, and some are not very different in scope from the census. While the reasons for the delay — it could have been the dilemma on whether to enumerate caste or not — are best known to the government, what is important is that we will finally have a census. The census data is not just a headcount of the population. It is pretty much the lodestar for building many other databases in India. All of them have become obsolete because of the delayed census. To be sure, it is important to sound a note of caution even as we welcome the announcement of a census date. One can flag at least two key concerns. The census will enumerate caste in the entire country for the first time after 1931. This is easier said than done given the vast heterogeneity in India's social landscape and the political sensitivities while matching them with constitutionally mandated social categories for affirmative actions. It is important that the design for this enumeration is done transparently to avoid post-facto controversies. A similar consultative and transparent approach should be followed for other data collection heads as well. India has changed drastically since 2011 when the last census was carried out. Given the fact that the census will be conducted on hand-held electronic devices — most government surveys are now conducted this way — the collection and publication of the data should not take as much time as its previous versions. A detailed timeline of data releases, beginning with the provisional numbers should also be announced forthwith. Transparency on both these counts will reduce controversies and facilitate this critical exercise.

KTR invites Indian-origin entrepreneurs to invest in Telangana's Tier-2 cities

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao emphasised that collaboration between governments and IT companies is crucial for India's youth to compete in the AI sector. He urged IT entrepreneurs of Indian origin to establish their companies in India, particularly in Tier-2 cities. During his visit to the USA, KTR met with representatives of IT companies in Dallas, highlighting the potential for small and medium-sized IT companies to establish offshore centres in India. He noted that the post-COVID era has demonstrated that work can be done for any company from anywhere in the world. KTR pointed out that during BRS's nine-year rule, the IT industry was extended to Tier-2 cities in Telangana. 'The government established IT hubs in 10 such cities, offering rent-free facilities in the first year, plug-and-play infrastructure and various incentives,' he added. The former IT minister emphasized that while multinational giants like Amazon and Google may not relocate to Tier-2 cities, small and medium-sized IT companies can. He highlighted the vast opportunities in India's Tier-2 cities, which have good rail and road connectivity, predicting remarkable developments in the next two decades. However, several IT company representatives noted that the growth of the IT industry in Telangana has slowed down.
