George Pickens' Youth Football Camp Snub Draws Apology from Organizers

George Pickens' Youth Football Camp Snub Draws Apology from Organizers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens was recently lit up on social media for allegedly skipping out on a local Pittsburgh area youth football camp that he had reportedly committed to, then re-committed to after his trade to the Dallas Cowboys.

TrueEdge Sports, the organizer of the camp, issued a statement slamming Pickens for what the original statement said was Pickens "walking back" on his word to appear and that he was "no longer interested" in attending the camp. The statement said the organizers were "deeply frustrated" by his decision.
Now, it seems that all of that was ... wrong?
TrueEdge Sports released a second statement, seemingly "walking back" everything it said in the original statement.
"At TrueEdge Sports, we take pride in fostering strong relationships with the athletes, families and communities we serve. Recently, a statement was issued regarding our scheduled youth camp with George Pickens that did not accurately reflect the full scope of communication or the context surrounding the event," the statement read. At no point did George communicate with us directly, and our communication with George's representatives led to confusion about the camp's status and future direction.

"Regrettably, the language used in our original message mischaracterized George's interest and actions. While our frustrations stemmed from the uncertainty surrounding the event, it was never our intention to publicly question George's professionalism, integrity, or commitment to the community. We now understand the implications of our message were not only inappropriate but inconsistent with our values as an organization."

2027 Four-Star Recruit Puts Florida in Top 12

2027 Four-Star Recruit Puts Florida in Top 12 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The University of Florida football program has long been recognized for its ability to produce top NFL talent at nearly every position group. In recent history, the tight end position has seen notable success, exemplified by Kyle Pitts being selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after an illustrious career with the Gators. Advertisement Florida is now looking for its next Pitts-esque recruit to lock down the tight end position for the future. Head coach Billy Napier and company hope they found it with Norwalk, Iowa's Luke Brewer. Brewer, who is a consensus four-star in the 2027 class, took to social media Thursday to announce he has narrowed down his recruitment to his top 12 teams, which includes Florida. "At this time my recruitment is still 100 percent open," Brewer said on X/Twitter. "But with that being said I have came out with this list based on feel, fit and the effort put in to making these talks with coaches! Not saying this is set in stone but as of right now let's roll." Norwalk High School tight end Luke BrewerEliot Clough The Norwalk High School product has turned heads due to his size and athletic ability. Standing at 6-foot-4.5 and weighing 228 pounds, Brewer has the makeup of an SEC tight end. He is ranked No. 4 among all recruits from the state of Iowa for the 2027 class and is the 17th-ranked tight end in the country in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Advertisement Along with the Gators, Brewer included SEC rivals Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M and national powerhouses like Notre Dame and Oregon in his top 12. However, the team Florida may have to watch out for the most on the recruiting trail is Iowa, which is known for its talent at the tight end position. The Hawkeyes, affectionately named "Tight End U," have had many greats at the position, including Dallas Clark, T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant. While Iowa may have the upper hand in the recruiting battle for Brewer based on history and location, Napier and Florida will certainly make a run at the top tight end target. Inzaghi hails 'extraordinary' Al Hilal after City upset

Al Hilal's Italian coach Simone Inzaghi hailed his "extraordinary" team after Monday's stunning 4-3, extra-time win over Premier League giants Manchester City at the Club World Cup. "We knew had to do something extraordinary if we were to beat Manchester City and that is what the boys did tonight, the lads were simply wonderful," said Inzaghi after the shock of the tournament in Orlando. Advertisement "We had to be extraordinary because well, Manchester City, we all know that team. So we had to climb Everest without oxygen to win the game and we made it. "We were great. All the players were exceptional in everything, in the possession phase, non-possession phase," added the former Inter Milan coach whose previous club were defeated by Fluminense just hours before the kick-off at Camping World Stadium. "It is only right in this moment, this evening, to enjoy this achievement up against the Manchester City of Guardiola. The heart that they put in tonight....." he said. Inzaghi had only been in charge of the team for a few days before the opening game where his side drew with Real Madrid and said the credit for the performance belongs with the players. Advertisement "It is barely three weeks that we are together and you can see the level of application, they really put the effort in. As a coach clearly that is very satisfying. "The lads delivered that performance, they have reached the quarter-finals," he said. City won all three of their group stage games and after a 5-2 win over Juventus in their last game before the knockout stage they were viewed as one of the favourites for the title. City boss Pep Guardiola gave credit to Al Hilal but clearly hadn't seen such an outcome on the horizon. "It is a pity, we have been on an incredible journey together and so good place. The vibe was really good, I cannot thank Manchester City enough and especially the players for training and how they have been playing," he said. Advertisement "We would have loved to have continued, you can only be here once every four years, we had a feeling that the team is doing well but we go home and now it is time to rest and rest our minds for the new season," he said. The Spaniard praised the way Inzaghi's team had hurt them on the counter-attack. "We were so open. When the crosses arrived, in the first action, they had the ability to pass the ball and attack and they have quick players. We created a lot and had a lot of chances against a team that defend so deep. They punished us on the transitions," he said. sev/rcw

Oakmont Country Club's 17th hole provides the ultimate risk-reward opportunity

When talking about the greatest golf holes in all of western Pennsylvania, you can't compile that list without including Oakmont Country Club's 17th hole. Oakmont is the most recognizable course in all of the Pittsburgh area and recently hosted the U.S. Open for a record 10th time. The 17th hole at Oakmont provides the ultimate risk-reward opportunity and last month, J.J. Spaun took a big risk and earned a big reward en route to winning the 125th U.S. Open Championship. The 312 yard Par 4 played as the easiest hole at this year's U.S. Open with more birdies there than on any other hole at Oakmont, but one birdie was the most memorable when Spaun pulled out his driver and was willing to take the risk. The gamble paid off in a big way for Spaun, setting him up for the 2-putt birdie that put him in the driver's seat to win the tournament, which he sealed on the 18th hole with another big birdie. The 17th hole at Oakmont Country Club provides the ultimate risk-reward opportunity, and at the 125th playing of the U.S. Open Championship, J.J. Spaun reaped the rewards of making a big shot at the right time. KDKA Drone Team / KDKA Photojournalist Ian Smith "It's such a great risk-reward Par 4," said Oakmont Country Club head professional Devin Gee. "It's just over 300 yards. I always love to describe it, no matter how you play the hole, and there are several ways you can choose to play it, but no matter how you play it, you have to hit a great shot at some point." The 17th at Oakmont has a treacherous green, which makes it hard to hold an approach shot from anywhere. It might sound like an easy hole, but the 17th at Oakmont is anything but easy.
