"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" TV Series in Works
A TV version of 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' is in the works at Amazon Prime Video.
The series is based on the book of the same name by Wang Dulu, which is part of the so-called Crane Iron Pentalogy.
The official logline for the project states: 'Amidst stunning landscapes and spectacular action, 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two star-crossed warriors, as they struggle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity — caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together.'
Jason Ning is writing and executive producing the adaptation, with Ron D. Moore serving as executive producer along with Maril Davis via Tall Ship Productions. Johnny Levin, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and Hong Wang and Qin Wang of the Wang Dulu Estate also executive produce. Ying Lou is co-executive producing. Sony Pictures Television, where both Ning and Moore are under overall deals, will produce.
'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' was originally published between 1941 and 1942.
The other books in the series are: 'Crane Startles Kunlun,' Precious Sword, Golden Hairpin,' 'Sword Force, Pearl Shine,' and 'Iron Knight, Silver Vase.'
'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' has previously been adapted for the screen numerous times, perhaps most famously by Ang Lee for the 2000 film of the same name.
It proved to be a box office and critical smash, grabbing over $200 million at the global box office and earning 10 Academy Award nominations.
It was reported at the time Ning signed his overall deal in 2023 that he would begin working on a series version of the book. Ning's other credits include 'The Brothers Sun,' 'Mrs. Davis,' 'Lucifer,' and 'The Expanse.' He is repped by UTA, Gotham Group and Yorn Levine.
For Moore, this is the second big IP-driven series he is developing at Prime Video under his new overall deal with Sony.
It was reported in October 2024 that Moore had boarded the streamer's series take on the popular video game 'God of War' as showrunner.
