OPEN// PM: Top priority given to expansion in green public transportation projects

CAIRO, May 17 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Saturday said that a great importance is attached to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project that aims to smooth traffic flow on the Ring Road, in accordance with directives of President Abdel Fattah el Sisi to expand the development of sustainable, eco-friendly mass transportation.
Madbouli made the remarks during a tour Saturday to inspect the pilot operation of the first phase of the BRT project, which extends from the intersection of the Ring Road with the Alexandria Agricultural Road to the Police Academy Station.
Later in the day, the premier will head to Al Fustat Gardens development project to follow up its implementation rate.
During his tour of the BRT project, Madbouli is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir, Governor of Cairo Ibrahim Saber Khalil, Qalyubia Governor Ayman Atiya, Head of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges Tarek Abdel Gawad and a host of officials.
Today's tour falls within the framework of the government's efforts to follow up on progress of national and public service projects implemented nationwide, in order to improve the living standards of people, the premier said.
He added that the tour aims to assess readiness of the first phase of the BRT project ahead of its official launch for public use as well as the progress achieved so far in Al Fustat Gardens development project which aims to turn the area into a regional tourist destination. (MENA)

In statements to MENA on Monday, Fouad said that Sharm El Sheikh joined the ICLEI network, thanks to its sustainable development strategy, citing the injection of investments worth EGP 800 million in the new and renewable energy sources in the city to produce 51 megawatts of clean energy, the establishment of 145 kilometers of bike lanes, the introduction of a public bike-sharing system and robust solid waste management systems. She added the next phase will focus on activating the Sustainable Environmental and Social Strategic Development Strategy (SESSDS), through banning the use of single-use plastic in 50 hotels, empowering local community initiatives, especially in protected areas and coastal areas, and expanding partnerships with the private sector and international supporters.

CAIRO, July 9 (MENA) - Member of the Egyptian Tourism Federation (ETF) Hossam Hazaa said Monday that Egypt is witnessing a remarkable boom in tourism rates during Eid Al Adha holiday, especially in the Red Sea region, despite geopolitical challenges in the region. In a phone-in to the Egyptian Space Channel I, he pointed out that a large number of tourists flocked to Hurghada from various European countries, topped by Germany, Italy and France. Hazaa praised efforts exerted by the Ministry of Tourism to activate tourism in Egypt during international exhibitions. He pointed out that occupancy rates reached 100% in some hotels during the past days. Hazaa described Egypt as a safe tourist destination at all levels, referring to the high demand on Marsa Alam hotels during the same period, which coincides with the summer holidays. (MENA) M O H/

CAIRO, June 8 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised on Sunday the ongoing progress in bilateral relations with Turkey, following a series of high-level reciprocal visits between the two countries. In a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's eagerness to further strengthen economic, investment and trade cooperation, leveraging the substantial capabilities and opportunities available to both friendly nations. The call is part of regular diplomatic engagement aimed at deepening Egyptian-Turkish cooperation and exchanging views on key developments in the Middle East. The two foreign ministers discussed major regional issues, with a special focus on the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty briefed his Turkish counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire deal, facilitate the release of hostages and detainees and ensure the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid, as well as shelters, to the Palestinian population. They also exchanged views on developments in Libya, particularly recent events in Tripoli. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance on preserving Libya's unity and territorial integrity and emphasized the importance of a purely Libyan-led political process. He also underscored the urgent need to hold simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible to stabilize the country. (MENA)
