Ben Affleck Finally Explained Why He and Jennifer Lopez Broke Up For Good

Yahoo25-03-2025

Last August, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck two years after the pair married. Since then, they have both been fairly private about their reasons for going their separate ways. Affleck, however, has just opened up about the breakdown of their marriage and the speculation that followed.
Speaking to British GQ, the actor and producer aimed to dispel the idea that their breakup was the result of one specific thing. "There's a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something," he said. "But honestly, [...] the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting."
He went on: "There's no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue. There is no, 'This is what happened.'"
Instead, the story of their relationship breakdown is more complicated. "It's just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do," he went on. "And as you get older, this is true for me, I assume it's true for most people, there is no 'So-and-so did this' or 'This was the big event.'"
If he were to explain the ins and outs of their breakup, he added, it would sound "more like a couple's therapy session." He added, "You would tune out of someone else's couple's therapy after a while. For one thing, you start going, 'Okay, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly they have these issues.' And the reason I don't want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable."
Earlier in the interview, Affleck had opened up about the process of appearing in The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Lopez's documentary that followed the making of her musical film This Is Me... Now. Although her film was inspired by her relationship with Affleck, Affleck only made a brief, unrelated cameo in the movie.
As Affleck explained, he decided to appear in Lopez's documentary even though it was out of his normal comfort zone. "My temperament is to be a little bit more reserved and private than hers," he said. "As happens in relationships, you don't always have the same attitude towards these things. And so I thought, 'Oh, this is interesting because how do you reconcile that?'"
Affleck wanted to show his support for Lopez by appearing in the film. "I love and support this person. I believe in them. They're great. I want people to see that," he said. "And I think the thing that I said in that documentary or the piece that they used was where I said, You don't marry a ship captain and then say, 'Well, I don't like going out in the water.' You've got to own what you knew going into any relationship."
Affleck then responded to the common misconception that their different approaches to celebrity, as displayed in the documentary, was the root cause of their breakup. "I think it's important to say that wasn't the cause of some major fracture," he said. "It's not like you can watch that documentary and go, 'Oh, now I understand the issues that these two had.'"
In another section of the interview, Affleck described his life, including his divorce, as "drama-free." 'I'm sure in your mind you're thinking, 'Oh, well, you just got divorced. That's not drama-free,'" he said to the interviewer. "And I understand that instinct, but all of this is pretty adult, and for all the sensational stuff that gets written, if somebody sat down and talked to me about it, and I said, 'Well, this is really the experience,' their eyes would glaze over with boredom.'
Lopez and Affleck's divorce was finalized earlier this year in January. According to reports, Affleck is "casually dating" following the split. Meanwhile, Lopez has spoken out about finding her sense of self as a single woman. "Being in a relationship doesn't define me," Lopez said to Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine. "I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself."

Jennifer Lopez is taking center stage as a silver screen diva in the first teaser for Kiss of the Spider Woman. The film, written for the screen and directed by Bill Condon, is based on the acclaimed 1976 novel by Argentinian writer Manuel Puig and the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name by the multiple-Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally and the composer and lyricist team of John Kander and Fred Ebb. 'The two form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favorite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna (Lopez).' 'I couldn't live without movies. One of them I'll never forget,' Tonatiuh's Molina says in the teaser as he looks at a movie poster for Kiss of the Spider Woman. Throughout the teaser, Lopez can be seen performing in the title role of Aurora as she appears in dream sequences and a myriad of musical numbers as the two cellmates navigate an unexpected friendship. In his review, The Hollywood Reporter's chief film critic David Rooney calls it one of Lopez's best roles of her decades-long career. The movie debuted at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in January with Lopez growing emotional over the response to the film. 'I've been waiting for this moment my whole life,' Lopez said. 'The truth is, when you talk about the importance of musicals, the reason that I even wanted to be in this business was because my mom would sit me in front of the TV when West Side Story would come on once a year, on Thanksgiving. I was just mesmerized. And I was like, 'That's what I want to do. That's what I want to do.' That was always my goal, and this is the first time that I actually got to do it.' The film is set to hit theaters on Oct. 10. Movie review: 'Something Beautiful' showcases Miley Cyrus in command

1 of 3 | Miley Cyrus released the "Something Beautiful" visual album following the debut of her album of the same name. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo LOS ANGELES, June 11 (UPI) -- Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful, in U.S. and Canadian theaters Thursday and international theaters June 27, demonstrates Miley Cyrus' command of both her musical artistry and performance. The film is a 55-minute collection of videos for the songs on her latest album, Something Beautiful. Each song warrants a unique costume and setting, but most focus on Cyrus' solo performance. Many of the videos predominantly favor closeups of Cyrus' face and she commands the screen while singing. In wide shots, her body language between dance moves projects confidence and self-assuredness. Even a hair flip is an intentional, considered move. Contrast this with something like Jennifer Lopez's This Is Me... Now, also an ambitious musical piece, but one with an ensemble cast and elaborate visual effects. While that allowed Lopez to explore her relationship with love, Cyrus' simplicity is equally effective. "Golden Burning Sun" features Cyrus on a motorcycle against a red sky. She's having fun on a stationary bike, posing when she's not singing. In "Easy Lover," she changes in her dressing room and gets made up by disembodied hands, but it conveys the moment she has to herself between performances. The "Walk of Fame" video has already made news since Cyrus contracted bacteria from the Hollywood Blvd. location, where Arnold Schwarzenegger's star is. It was already powerful to see her strut down the street and dancing, but adds a sympathetic wince when she actually touches the ground. Cyrus shared writing and directing credit with Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter. The trio succeeds in devising visuals that showcase Cyrus the performer and get out of her way. Cyrus is occasionally joined by a co-star or two, such as her boyfriend Maxx Morando and model Naomi Campbell. The focus remains on her interaction with them, and they are still mainly one-on-one interactions. The names of the songs will flash on screen a few times, but the film expects audiences are already familiar with the tracks. The album has been out since May 30. Cyrus has reinvented herself several times since being a child star. Her latest incarnation shows an artist less concerned with drastic changes and more comfortable just letting herself and the music move audiences. At that, she succeeds. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's Former Marital Home Sells for $11 Million — See Inside!

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's former Brentwood home has sold for $10.8 million after one on the market. Garner purchased the home in 2004, before her marriage to Affleck who moved in in 2005. She sold it in 2009. The mansion has also been home to Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber and was used in the filming of 'Home Again' starring Reese WitherspoonBen Affleck and Jennifer Garner's former L.A. home came back on the market last week — and has already found a new buyer. The Brentwood mansion sold for 10.8 million, significantly more than its asking price of $9.5 million, after receiving multiple offers from the day it was listed. The 13 Going on 30 actress, 53, purchased the home in 2004 for $5.5 million, before being joined by Affleck, 52, in 2005 following their marriage, according to Mansion Global. In 2009, Garner put the house on the market. Affleck and Garner, who share children Violet Anne, 19, Seraphina Rose, 16, and Samuel, 13, announced their split in June 2015 after ten years of marriage. The 4,151-square-foot, four bedroom, five bathroom Montecito-inspired home is arranged around a charming courtyard. It was built in 1929 and sits on about three-quarters of an acre in the celeb-favorite enclave. Affleck and Garner weren't the first stars to call this place home. Cindy Crawford once lived in the property with her husband Rande Gerber. The house also has an screen credit of its own: It was used in the 2017 romcom Home Again starring Reese Witherspoon. The property includes a gated driveway with tall hedges for privacy. The entrance is accessed via a stone pathway and manicured garden surrounding a fountain. The main spaces feature original tile floors and steal casement-style windows. The living room includes a wood-burning fireplace and a high, beamed ceiling. It opens up onto a lush backyard complete with a pool and outdoor entertaining space with another fireplace. Affleck and Garner first met on the set of Pearl Harbor, but their relationship did not begin until four years later. They starred in 2003's Daredevil together and became close friends. By the summer of 2004, their friendship had turned romantic and they wed in June 2005. They decided to go their separate ways in 2015, finalizing their divorce in 2018. In the years since, the exes and co-parents have continued to speak highly of one another. "She's just a fabulous person," Affleck said of Garner in 2016. "She's a great mother. She's a real talent … She's somebody that I admire and respect and remain excellent friends with." Affleck went on to marry Jennifer Lopez in 2022, but the singer filed for divorce in 2024. Garner is currently in a relationship with CEO boyfriend John Miller since 2018. Garner opened the doors to her current Los Angeles home to Architectural Digest in 2024. 'I'm such a private person about my home and here I've just taken you through the entire house. And really, it's for a couple of reasons,' she explains in the video tour. 'I've never built anything all by myself before and I'm so proud of it. I am filled with gratitude every time I walk into my house. That I get to live here, that I'm so lucky to have my kids here,' she says, Garner adds that it's 'unlike me' to share something that's so personal to her and her family, but she's 'happy' she did, as she's proud of the work she put into it. After moving out of the home he shared with Lopez, Affleck acquired a new place of his own in 2024. The $20.5 million, five-bedroom Los Angeles estate has a 'sense of privacy and seclusion' and is 'not trendy,' a source told PEOPLE shortly after he made the purchase. Affleck and Lopez's shared Beverly Hills mansion remains on the market with an asking price of $60 million following an $8 million price cut, a year after they listed it. The couple initially shopped the 38,000-square-foot house off market in June 2024, before publicly listing it in July. Read the original article on People
