Yoga day events at four tourist spots in ASR district
As part of the 'Yogandhra' initiative, the Alluri Sitharama Raju district administration has decided to organise yoga events at four tourist places in the district.
At a meeting held in Paderu on Tuesday, District Collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar announced that, as per State government directions, yoga sessions will be conducted at Borra, Chaparai, Araku Tribal Museum and Maredumilli, with a minimum participation of 1,000 people at each location.
He said the first event will be held on May 29 at the school grounds in Borra, Ananthagiri mandal, with Borra Caves as the focal point. On June 4, yoga sessions will be held at the Araku Tribal Museum in Araku. On the same day, a massive yoga session with the participation of over 5,000 tribals will be organised in the district headquarters.
He further stated that they have also decided to organise yoga events at Chaparai Waterfalls in Dumbriguda mandal on June 11 and at Maredumilli Vanavihari on June 17. The Collector has urged the public, people's representatives, tourists, mandal-level officials and their staff to participate in these events.
The Collector also instructed District Yoga Nodal Officer M.V.S. Lokeshwara Rao and District Tourism Officer G. Dasu to make necessary arrangements at each location to ensure the smooth conduct of the yoga events. These preparations are in view of the month-long International Yoga Day celebrations leading up to June 21 in Visakhapatnam, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend as a special guest.

Vijayawada: The month-long 'Yogandhra' awareness campaign launched by the state government to promote Yoga has received 1.86 crore registrations within just two weeks of its launch on May 21. Krishna Babu informed the GoM that, with another two weeks remaining for citizen registrations under the Yogandhra campaign, the registrations are expected to surpass the targeted two crore mark. Furthermore, the state has successfully surpassed the monthly target for the registration and training of Yoga trainers. Against the target of registering 2,600 master trainers, 5,451 (209%) have already been registered. At the mandal level, 1,47,817 trainers — accounting for 118% of the target of 1,25,000 — have been registered so far. Regarding the training of trainers, 5,451 master trainers (206% of the target) and 1,43,881 mandal trainers (115%) have been trained so far. A total of 78,730 locations have been registered across the state against the target of 1,34,991 for yoga programmes in connection with the to be celebrated on June 21. The main event will be held in Visakhapatnam, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi participating as the chief guest. CM opens 2nd KalyanMandapam in Gkp
Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday inaugurated the city's second Kalyan Mandapam, constructed at a cost of ₹4.52 crore in Surajkund Colony. He lauded the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation for being the first civic body in the state to spearhead such an initiative. Andhra Pradesh government comes under fire for not appointing GVMC Commissioner
The NDA government has come under severe criticism over the non-appointment of a Commissioner for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) for the past four months. Not just the members of the opposition, even some NDA leaders expressed displeasure over the GVMC not having a chief over hundred days, during the council meeting organised by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Friday. Corporators of the YSRCP staged a protest in front of the Mayor's podium. They alleged sheer negligence by the NDA government over the municipal corporation. They argued that the prolonged absence of a GVMC chief has significantly disrupted the corporation's functioning. They also criticised that the non-appointment of Commissioner reflects the interest of the NDA government on Visakhapatnam. Rajya Sabha member Golla Babu Rao and YSRCP floor leader Banala Srinivasa Rao expressed dissent, stating that lack of a Municipal Commissioner is affecting the civic administration. They also found fault with burdening the District Collector with additional GVMC administration workload. They also urged the Collector to somehow dedicate two hours 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the corporation to address civic issues. Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Raju and V. Vijaya Sai Reddy, who held no official positions in the corporation, were given preference to those of NDA corporators. Responding to the JSP corporators, Mr. Banala Srinivasa Rao pointed out that, according to the GVMC Engineering wing, six of the 10 wards that saw the most development in the past four years were represented by TDP corporators, suggesting a balanced approach during the YSRCP's tenure. Heated arguments were exchanged when some of the YSRCP corporators questioned presence of former MLA Peela Govinda Satyanarayana in the council. They recalled that earlier, the TDP corporators questioned the presence of YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani in the council. The GVMC Secretary immediately clarified that Mr. Satyanarayana, now holding a post of Chairman of AP Urban Finance & Infrastructure Development Corporation, had received formal permission from the government to attend the council meeting.
