'Haseed" platform launched to connect Al Dhahirah farmers with retailers
The initiative aims to streamline marketing processes, reduce waste, and enhance the efficiency and quality of the local agricultural supply chain.
Mahmoud Al Harmali, a team member, explained that the project was inspired by the challenges farmers face in delivering their products to local markets within Al Dhahirah. Many are forced to sell individually at weekly markets or transport their goods outside the governorate, leading to spoilage and delayed sales, while most retailers rely on imported produce from other governorates.
He noted that the team encountered several challenges during development, including difficulty accessing farm owners directly, as many delegate farm management to expatriate workers.
Additionally, digital promotion proved challenging, prompting the team to adopt on-ground outreach by visiting traditional markets—particularly at dawn on Fridays, a peak time for Omani traders and vendors.
The platform allows farmers to easily showcase their fresh and organic products, while retailers can source locally grown goods at fair prices with assured quality. 'Haseed" also features an organized delivery system transporting produce from farms to stores, along with smart surplus management technology to minimize agricultural waste and maximize crop utilization.
Available products on the platform include a variety of farm-direct offerings such as dates, onions, leafy greens, melons and guavas.
The project secured third place in the 'Al Dhahirah Hackathon", which saw over 200 participants and 40 student projects amid strong competition from colleges and universities nationwide, judged by experts in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Moving forward, the team plans to collaborate with relevant authorities to expand the platform to other governorates, with the goal of evolving it into a commercial startup that supports Oman's agricultural sector and empowers local farmers through innovative tech solutions.

Rural demand revival to boost FMCG, Auto and Mobile phone sales: Report
New Delhi: The revival in rural demand is expected to play a key role in supporting the recovery of key consumption sectors such as FMCG, consumer durables, automobiles, mobile phones, housing, and apparel, according to a report by PL Capital. The report highlighted that rural demand, which has been ahead of urban demand for the past few quarters, is likely to gain further strength in the coming months due to steady sentiment, rising income and improved agriculture output because of favourable monsoon. It stated, "This recovery will support consumption in FMCG, durables, auto, housing, appliances, mobile phones and apparel etc". The report mentioned that the rural households are showing greater resilience, driven by improved agricultural output and increased government spending on rural development. The rural Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI) has improved steadily from 96.5 in January 2024 to 100 by May 2025. At the same time, the Future Expectations Index (FEI) also rose from 124.3 to 125.9, indicating growing optimism in rural areas. According to the report, the ongoing progress of monsoons and moderation in inflation will help sustain and lift rural demand further. It stated, "Rural sentiments steady, normal monsoons may lift it further" A key factor contributing to this positive trend is improved Kharif sowing, which is up 11.1 per cent year-on-year in Q1 of 2025. Expectations of a healthy Rabi season, supported by normal monsoons, adequate soil moisture, and strong water reservoir levels, are also likely to boost rural incomes across major crop-producing states. Higher rural incomes are expected to directly translate into increased consumption of everyday goods and big-ticket items. This will benefit sectors like fast-moving consumer goods, household appliances, two-wheelers and entry-level cars, mobile phones, and clothing. In addition, the impact of recent tax cuts on consumption is likely to become more visible from August, aligning with festive demand during Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Onam.

Agreements signed to implement service projects in Al Dhahirah Governorate
Ibri: Agreements worth more than OMR1 million were signed in Al Dhahirah Governorate on Thursday to implement service and development projects. The agreement were inked by Najeeb Ali Al Rowas, Governor of Al Dhahirah, and representatives of private sector companies. The step was aimed to upgrade infrastructure and enhance the quality of services in the governorate's wilayats. The agreements included the implementation of three projects. The first is a road maintenance project in the Wilayat of Ibri. The second is an internal road maintenance project in the Wilayats of Dhank and Yanqul. Both projects deal with the re-planning and re-designing of roads and speed breakers, the installation of road signs and the replacement of asphalt layers. The third is a lighting project for the Kabara-Wadi-Al Ain Road in the Wilayat of Ibri. It deals with the supply and installation of 178 lighting poles to enhance the safety and security of road users during the night.

Oman gets positive rating in tax transparency
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has been rated as "largely compliant" with international standards in the field of transparency and exchange of tax information. This positive outlook reflects the remarkable progress Oman has made in enhancing the transparency of its tax system. The assessment made by the jurisdiction party was based on a comprehensive review of the Sultanate of Oman's compliance with transparency requirements and the exchange of tax information upon request, in accordance with the standards set by the global forum of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as regards transparency and exchange of information. The assessment process included a field visit made to the Sultanate of Oman by a team of international assessors, in September 2024. The team conferred with experts from the Tax Authority and government departments concerned to assess Oman's transparency and draft a report on Oman's status. This high ranking reflects Oman's ongoing commitment to establish the principles of transparency and governance and enhance international confidence in the country's tax system. Oman's commitment to global standards also helps combat tax evasion and support joint international efforts in financial and tax areas.
