Marka-e-Haq celebrations kicks off in Hyderabad
The rally saw enthusiastic participation from Assistant Commissioners of all four talukas District Health Officer, officers from the district police and traffic departments, as well as officials from Local Government, Highways Department, Culture Department, and Social Welfare Departments. School children and women also joined in large numbers, waving national flags, holding banners, and chanting patriotic slogans.
While speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon said that, In May, we defeated our hostile neighbor in a historic battle the Victory of Truth, 'Marka-e-Haq' As we step into Pakistan's 78th Independence Day celebrations, the Government of Pakistan, the Government of Sindh, district administration and all departments are united in celebrating this momentous occasion from August 1 to 14.
The Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad announced the day began with the plantation of 5,000 trees in various parts of the city, involving school students and citizens.
He emphasized that today's rally marks the beginning of a grand schedule of events, including a mega student flag project, a marathon race, and the Cricket Tournament.
He also noted that August 4 will be observed as Martyrs' Day, and August 5 as Exploitation Day, with various events planned to commemorate both occasions.
Our goal is to create meaningful and festive experiences for the lively people of Hyderabad,' he added. 'We request the media to cover these celebrations widely so the world sees how united and proud Hyderabadis are of their country and its victories.

Hajj 2026 applications open on Monday with ‘first-come-first-served policy'
The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has announced the commencement of Hajj 2026 applications for registered pilgrims, with the collection of dues starting from Monday. The ministry's spokesperson Muhammad Umar Butt, prospective pilgrims can submit their applications through designated banks and the official online portal. The registration process will follow a 'first-come, first-served' policy for already registered applicants, who will be required to deposit their first installment between August 4 and 9, he added. Umar said subject to seat availability, new applicants will be allowed to apply from August 11 to 16. However, he said the collection of Hajj dues will be halted as soon as all available seats are filled. Umar said in a significant policy shift, the previous age cap and restriction on performing Hajj multiple times have been removed, broadening accessibility for aspiring pilgrims. However, the spokesperson clarified that children born after March 1, 2014, will not be eligible to apply for Hajj. He urged all interested pilgrims to act swiftly and complete their application procedures within the announced timeframes to secure their seats for Hajj 2026.

Police arrest former AJK premier Abdul Qayyum Niazi
Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, has been arrested by police from the Samahni area of Bhimber. He was 'illegally taken into custody' while he was heading to address a public rally in AJK on Sunday, the PTI said in a statement on its Facebook page. AJK Police arrested the former PM near Jhandi Juntra while he was travelling from Samahni to attend a rally in Bhimber. On this occasion, a scuffle also broke out between police and PTI workers. PTI launches 90-day 'do or die' movement Aaj News cited sources as saying that Niazi was participating in a public contact campaign to mobilise support for a rally to be held in Lahore on August 5, aimed at securing the release of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan. The arrest of the PTI AJK President has increased concerns about the potential for further arrests of party leaders and the possibility of police blocking PTI convoys from travelling to Lahore. Police said arrest warrants were issued against Niazi two days ago in connection with the May 9 riots. The PTI leader was facing more than 11 cases, they added. Karachi's Malir gets new football stadium
Listen to article Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani on Sunday reiterated that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is not limited to rural constituencies but represents all major cities of Sindh. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Malir Union Football Stadium. He said development schemes worth billions of rupees were being executed across Karachi and the province, and expressed hope they would be completed within the current financial year. Ghani also inaugurated two other projects, including a community centre built by TMC Malir. He said these facilities had been established for the convenience of residents and would run efficiently. Several similar schemes across Karachi districts were also expected to be completed soon, he added. Members of the Sindh Assembly Raja Razzaq and Saleem Baloch, Malir Town Chairman Jan Mohammad Baloch, Ibrahim Hyderi Town Chairman Nazir Bhutto, Imdad Jokhio, and other elected representatives, local PPP leaders and residents attended the ceremony. Highlighting PPP's historical presence in Malir, Ghani said the area had produced prominent party leaders and that PPP had always defended local interests. The party had won the highest number of seats in District Malir during elections, he noted. He called Shahrah-e-Bhutto one of the city's best development schemes, benefiting four districts simultaneously, with its final phase up to Kathore due for completion by December. Referring to the K-IV project, he said it was delayed due to flaws in the initial design, which lacked key pumping and power stations. He called PPP the largest urban political force in Sindh, noting that it had won local government elections in Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, and Larkana, with all Sindh mayors now from PPP. He said ongoing water and sewerage projects were progressing swiftly and would be completed in the coming months. On Independence Day preparations, Ghani said the nation was celebrating it as a 'Day of Victory'. He praised the armed forces and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for diplomatic efforts that countered Indian misinformation. He urged citizens to actively take part in Independence Day programmes. Replying to questions, he said work on the Quaidabad bridge would soon be completed, easing commuter movement.
