Three teenagers accused of killing electrician on Isle of Sheppey will go on trial next year
Alexander Cashford, 49, was found dead with multiple serious injuries in Leysdown-on-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey on Sunday.
A 16-year-old girl and two boys, aged 15 and 14, were charged with his murder on Tuesday.
On Thursday, a provisional trial date was set at Maidstone Crown Court for January 13 next year.
The three are charged with murder by joint venture after a 'violent assault' took place near the beach in Warden Bay.
Kent Police were called to the Warden Bay Road area shortly after 7pm on Sunday, after an altercation involving a small number of people.
Mr Cashford was confirmed dead at the scene, and police said multiple injuries to his body were reported.
A 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15, all from London, were thought to have been on holiday in Kent at the time of the attack.
Some local residents witnessed the attack, and tried to provide CPR to Mr Cashford, the court heard.
The 16-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy appeared in court on Thursday morning and spoke only to confirm their names. The 15-year-old boy appeared by video link from a youth detention centre.
Family members of all three teenagers watched proceedings from the public gallery.
The attack is alleged to have involved a glass bottle and rocks being thrown, the court heard.
On Thursday, the prosecution said the cause of Mr Cashford's death is currently inconclusive as he seems to have suffered a 'medical episode such as a cardiac arrest could have been brought on by being chased and attacked'.
He was found with bruising to his 'lower ribs and stomach' along with an injury to his head, the court heard.
A 12-year-old girl, arrested on Tuesday in Basildon, Essex, in connection with the incident has been bailed.
The 16-year-old girl and the two boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been remanded into youth detention accommodation.
A plea and trial preparation date has been set for November 6.
Yesterday specialist officers brought a sniffer dog to the scene as they continue to search for evidence.
A police spaniel was seen sniffing around a small area with police tape set up around it.
The cordon was put up in a large clearing behind the beach in front of a caravan park.
They also covered some areas of the scrap land behind Warden Bay Beach.
Mr Cashford appeared in court earlier this year, accused of following a young woman home from work and visiting her house in the early hours of the morning, where he posted a chocolate bar and a letter through her door.
The daily Mail revealed that Mr Cashford, from Rainham, in Kent, visited the address in nearby Gillingham twice, first at 1.39am and then seven minutes later at 1.46am on March 9.
He admitted a charge of stalking involving serious alarm and distress at North Kent Magistrates' Court on March 17 and was placed on a month's curfew and fitted with a tag which was to remain in place until September 16.
Magistrates warned him to refrain from contacting the woman he followed, to keep away from her address and he was banned from the Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre in Gillingham.
The Daily Mail can also reveal that Mr Cashford, who worked as an electrician, was jailed for three years and four months in 2015 after stealing vehicle parts worth more than £63,000.
He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to nearly 200 offences relating to vehicle theft, money laundering and making off without payment

Teen killer finally confesses to murdering sister-in-law and nephews, 1 and 4, after leaving chilling letter
A New Hampshire teen confessed to murdering his sister-in-law and two young nephews weeks after penning a chilling letter that read, 'I do not belong in this family'. Eric Sweeney, 19, fatally shot Kassandra Sweeney, 25, and her sons, Benjamin, four, and Mason, one, while living at their Northfield home. He shot his victims execution style with a bullet to the head using his older brother's gun. Sweeney initially faced first-degree murder charges and was scheduled to go on trial in September, however accepted a plea deal, admitting guilt to three counts of second-degree murder and one count of falsifying physical evidence. In June 2022, just two months before the brutal killings, Sweeney took the family's truck and left behind a harrowing note. 'I do not belong in this family. All I do is steal and lie and be irresponsible,' the note read in part, ending with, 'I love you big bro and sis bye.' Prosecutors cited the message as an early indication of emotional instability and growing conflict in the home. Kassandra and her husband, Sean Sweeney, were acting as Eric's guardians and struggled to manage his behavioral issues, which included lying, stealing, and breaking household rules, Assistant Attorney General Bethany Durand said during the Friday hearing. Police were called to the home twice, once after the stolen truck incident, and again less than two weeks before the fatal shootings, when the couple reported that Sweeney was making 'strange statements'. 'The situation had deteriorated to the extent that Sean installed a lock on the door of the master bedroom in order to keep the defendant out of that room,' Durand told Merrimack County Superior Court. On the morning of the killings, prosecutors said Kassandra had been recording and sending video clips to her husband of the boys playing and laughing, but just moments later, she and the children were dead. In one clip, the toddler giggles as a family dog plays with the tail of his brother's dinosaur costume. In another, both children wave at a groundhog outside the window, saying 'Hi, Dada' to the camera. 'The family was having a normal morning, with the boys playing and laughing with Kassandra while helping her to create video clips to send to their dad,' Durand said. 'There was no indication of any unknown person, intruder or danger inside of their home.' Family members sat quietly during the hearing, some wiping away tears (pictured), neither they nor attorneys for either side gave statements after court adjourned Sweeney initially told police he had been in his basement bedroom when he heard something break upstairs, followed by a man yelling and several loud 'pops'. He claimed he went upstairs and discovered the victims on the floor, took Kassandra's phone and car keys, and left the house. He later called his brother, who contacted law enforcement, NBC10 reported. Kassandra and Mason were found in the dining room, while Benjamin was discovered in the kitchen, each had been shot once in the head. Prosecutors said Sweeney used his brother's handgun, which had been kept in a locked safe under the couple's bed. Family members sat quietly, some seen wiping away tears during the emotional hearing Friday. Sweeney will be sentenced on October 3 where he faces 35 years to life in prison for each second-degree murder charge.

Worker with bad back who was fired after bosses saw him 'dancing' was actually just shuffling from foot to foot, tribunal rules
A warehouse worker with a bad back who was sacked after being filmed 'dancing' was only shuffling from foot to foot, an employment tribunal has ruled. Neil Wilson, who also worked as a reggae DJ and music producer, began working for a plastic piping company in 2021, the hearing was told. But the following year, he was signed off sick following an accident at work. He applied for company insurance payouts, stating: 'I cannot perform any action which requires lifting of weight or stretching or exerting my body in any manner or I feel a lot of pain.' Mr Wilson told the firm, Aliaxis UK Ltd, which owns the warehouse near Maidstone in Kent, he suffered back pain 'approximately one hour after rising'. He also stated he had difficulty sleeping and struggled with walking at times. But the company's human resources director Joanne Askham told the tribunal she became 'very concerned' after seeing Mr Wilson's social media posts. One photo showed him lying in a vest on a beach, while another showed him leaning on a railing and drinking, which 'does not indicate that he is in any particular pain', the hearing in Ashford was told. Music videos also appeared to show Mr Wilson 'moving around freely'. Ms Askham concluded Mr Wilson, known as DJ Reggae Vibes, was 'a fraudster' and cancelled his insurance payments. However, the company decided not to pursue any action over the alleged fraud. Instead, bosses told Mr Wilson in June 2023 they were firing him because they did not believe his condition would improve enough for him to return to work. But judge Sean Jones said the music video 'seems to us [the tribunal panel] to be moving rhythmically from foot to foot. 'He is not, in any meaningful sense, dancing. You could not tell from the video that this was someone who was suffering from a long-term problem with back pain.' The tribunal ruled that Mr Wilson had been unfairly dismissed because the firm had not considered reinstating his insurance payments once it had concluded he was unfit for work. He had also not been given a proper opportunity to refute the allegations made against him, it said.

Harrowing moment teenage girl allegedly forced to strip at knifepoint before being whipped and filmed by trio
A group of teenage girls allegedly held a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint, punching and licking her before forcing her to take off her clothes while being filmed. NSW Police allege the teenager was approached at a bus stop in Claymore, south-west Sydney, by three 13-year-old girls about 7pm on Friday. Officers allege the older girl was known to the trio who, it is understood, was kicked and hit by them after she was forced at knifepoint to the end of Longstaff Way. Police will allege in court the trio made to strip on the street before she was whipped with a phone cord while being recorded. The trio of alleged offenders then left with her top, trousers, shoes and mobile phone. PolAir was called to assist in a search for those allegedly involved, with three girls arrested a short time later in Claymore, and their mobile phones seized. They were all taken to Campbelltown Police Station where they have now been charged. One 13-year-old girl was charged with aggravated robbery with offensive weapon, causing a person aged 14 years or over to make child abuse and possessing child abuse material. The other two girls have each been charged with two offences, aggravated robbery with offensive weapon and causing a person aged 14 years or over to make child abuse material. All three were refused bail to appear in a children's court on Saturday.
