Heat, air quality warnings in place across the Maritimes
Thursday is set to be a hot and humid day across Prince Edward Island and most of Nova Scotia. Smoke from wildfires in the region is also reducing air quality in some areas. Nova Scotia Heat warnings are in place across parts of mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Environment Canada says maximum daytime temperatures will reach 30 degrees, though the humidex will make it feel near 36. Conditions are expected to moderate Thursday night as a cold front passes through. Meanwhile, an air quality statement is in place for Annapolis County as well as for Halifax Metro and Halifax County West. Smoke from the wildfires near West Dalhousie and Susies Lake is reducing air quality in the area and places downwind. The statements say local smoke concentrations will vary with small changes to the wind. New Brunswick Air quality statements are also in place in southeast New Brunswick as well as the Miramichi area due to the Irishtown and Oldfield Road fires. Environment Canada says smoke from the wildfires is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility. Light southwesterly winds are also expected. Prince Edward Island Heat warnings are in effect across P.E.I., where temperatures will reach around 30 degrees and the humidex will be near 35. There are no air quality statements in place on the island.
