Summer McIntosh goes for her second gold on Day 2 at the swimming world championships
That means it's a chance for Summer McIntosh to add her second gold medal after winning the 400 freestyle on the opening day.
The 18-year-old Canadian is trying for five individual golds across the eight-day event in Singapore. On Monday she's a strong favorite to get her second gold, this time in the 200-meter individual medley.
She set the world record of 2 minutes, 05.70 seconds at the Canadian trials a few months ago. McIntosh is expected to be challenged by American Alex Walsh.
Also in the field is 12-year-old Chinese Yu Zidi, whose age and astounding times are the talk of global swimming.
The women's 100 butterfly is another eye-catching race. American Gretchen Walsh — Alex's older sister — is the favorite and set the world record of 54.60 earlier this year. Roos Vanotterdijk of Belgium and Australia's Alexandria Perkins will push Walsh.
Two more finals are set.
Qin Haiyang of China and Nicolo Marinenghi of Italy are the favorites in the 100 breaststroke. The Italian is the Olympian champion from Paris, and Qin won this event two years ago at the worlds in Fukuoka, Japan.
The 50 fly final is wide open, but the quickest qualifiers were Maxime Grousset of France and Noe Ponti of Switzerland.
There are also three semifinals Monday — the men's 100 backstroke, the men's 200 free, and the women's 100 backstroke.

However, given some of the other veterans on the roster, the Maple Leafs are still in a somewhat decent position to compete, at the very least. Despite the uncertainties of what the Maple Leafs want to do, Heavy Sports' Cole Shelton recently proposed a trade idea to send them a veteran player in Mats Zuccarello of the Minnesota Wild. The downside in this trade would be sending a second-round pick to the Wild. The Wild, meanwhile, get a draft pick and a young NHL forward who could use a change of scenery. 'The Maple Leafs would add Zuccarello, who's entering the final year of his two-year, $8.25 million deal. Zuccarello can be Toronto's second-line left winger, which is a major need for the team. He's coming off a season where he recorded 19 goals and 35 assists for 54 points in 69 games. His career high is 79 points and 26 goals,' he wrote. Moving on from a second-round pick in the position the Maple Leafs are currently in would be interesting, but it isn't like it'll be the end-all be-all. Ultimately, the Maple Leafs probably need younger players, and Zuccarello wouldn't be that, but it's still an intriguing thought and something they could consider depending on how the remainder of the offseason goes.

On this occasion, Lyles beat Bednarek after reeling in his opponent on the final stretch, finishing in 19.63 seconds. Bednarek finished 0.04 seconds behind but was clearly annoyed by Lyles' decision to look across at his lane in the final meters – something sprinters usually do to gloat. As a result, Bednarek shoved Lyles in the back after crossing the finishing line, a flashpoint which triggered some choice words between the two. 'I expect my apology,' Lyles could be heard saying, after appearing to initially refuse Bednarek's attempts at a handshake following a stare down. The pair's argument then bled into NBC's winner's interview, with both sprinters eventually agreeing to talk off track. Speaking to reporters after the race, Bednarek explained what had gone on between the two. 'Noah is going to be Noah,' Bednarek said. 'What he said didn't matter, it's just what he did. Unsportsmanlike sh*t and I don't deal with that. 'It's a respect factor. At the end of the day, he's fresh. Last time we lined it up, I beat him, that's all I can say. Next time we line up, I'm going to win.' He added: 'The grand summary is: don't do that to me. I don't do any of that stuff. I think it's not good character right there. That's pretty much it. At the end of the day, he won the race, so I've got to give him his props. He was the better man today.' Bednarek has beaten Lyles in both of the last two Olympic 200m finals, winning silver on both occasions. Meanwhile, Bednarek said the pair have some figuring out to do, pointing toward an ongoing feud between the two. It's not clear what the disagreement is about. 'It's just some personal stuff that we gotta handle. He's got my number, if he wants to call me, he has every chance to do it, but he wants to come out and do that. I think that's funny,' Bednarek told reporters. 'At the end of the day, he can call me whenever, we can discuss it and we should be good.'
