Man poses as Haryana CM's OSD, asks official to remove power poles; arrested
Amit Chaudhary (39), a resident of Nathupur, was taken into custody on May 3 following a complaint filed on April 1 at the Sector 56 police station.

Chaudhary posed as an OSD to CM Nayab Singh Saini and called SDO Satish Chand of the DLF City sub-division, claiming to be calling from the CM's office. He pressured the official to remove poles near a plot belonging to one of his acquaintances. Suspicious of the call, the official alerted the police.
"Investigations revealed that Chaudhary had created a fake profile on Truecaller to support his claims. He has a prior criminal history and was earlier arrested for cheating a man in Panchkula of Rs 57 lakh by pretending to be an OSD to Union home minister Amit Shah, promising him a petrol pump license. He also faces two pending cheque bounce cases," a police officer said.
Police have recovered the mobile phone used in the offence. It was further revealed that Chaudhary is the nephew of BJP councillor Sunder Singh.
In March, a 30-year-old man was arrested from Mehrauli, who posed as a DCP in Delhi Police, and sought an escort from the Faridabad Police for a visit. The investigations revealed that the accused wanted to visit a woman's residence whom he had been stalking.
Similarly, later that month, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested a person claiming to be a senior official of the probe agency who had extorted Rs 80 lakh from multiple people.

‘You are lying': Crucial witness in Jaipur Exp shootout sticks to testimony, counters the defence
Mumbai: The trial of former Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh Chaudhary – accused of shooting down his senior officer and three identifiably Muslim passengers on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express on the night of July 31, 2023 – was marked by drama on Wednesday and Thursday as Narendra Parmar, a crucial witness, stuck to his testimony despite intense cross examination by defence advocate Jaywant Patil. Former RPF constable Chetan Singh Chaudhary in court (HT Photo) Parmar, then RPF head constable and part of the four-member escort team on the train, had testified earlier that he had seen Singh take with him a bearded, kurta-clad passenger at gunpoint, whose body was later found near the toilet of the pantry car. He had also seen Chaudhary shoot another bearded, kurta-clad passenger in the chest even as the latter begged for mercy, Parmar had told the court during his examination-in-chief. On Wednesday and Thursday, defence advocate Patil went over Parmar's examination-in-chief with a fine toothcomb, asking him questions about every little detail. Patil probed the witness about the exact sequence and timing of events after the train halted at Borivali station, where bodies of the four victims were unloaded and Chaudhary was arrested. About the incident itself, Patil suggested that it was not possible for Parmar to see clearly what was unfolding inside the train compartment through its glass door, especially since the lights inside were switched off, or to hear any conversations as the train's noise would drown them out. He also alleged that the police had told Parmar what to say in his statement recorded under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a magistrate. Parmar dismissed the suggestions and stuck to whatever he had said in his examination-in-chief, telling the defence lawyer, 'Your questions are all wrong; you are mixing up things.' The former head constable said that he could see clearly what was going on through the glass door. While the compartment was lit with a night light, the area near the toilet was brightly lit, he said. The noise of the train was overbearing only at some points, he replied. The police had nothing to do with what he had told the magistrate, he said, adding, 'I told the magistrate what I had seen.' Towards the end of the cross-examination, stung by the suggestions of the defence, Parmar repeatedly counter-questioned Patil, saying, 'Kaun bola? (Who says so?)' At one point, Patil replied, 'I say so', to which Parmar retorted, 'Aap jhooth bol rahe ho (You are lying).' That became his standard response thereafter. Parmar, 60, was one-and-a-half years away from retirement when he was dismissed from service for his 'failure to discharge his duty' that night. He had testified earlier that though he had seen Chaudhary ready to shoot his targets, the presence of other passengers between him and Chaudhary, and also behind Chaudhary, had stopped him from using his firearm against the former constable as a preventive measure.

Assets case: Court rejects vigilance clean chit to ADGP
Thiruvananthapuram : The Special Vigilance Court here on Thursday rejected the vigilance department's report that exonerated ADGP M R Ajith Kumar in the disproportionate assets case, citing that the inquiry was "incomplete" and lacking in essential procedures. The court directed the recording of the statement of petitioner Adv Neyyattinkara Nagaraju, who sought a proper investigation of allegations against the additional director general of police, before deciding whether to order a fresh probe. After examining the report approved by the govt, it said the vigilance inquiry — conducted by a special unit on the state govt's directive — failed to meet even basic investigative standards. It noted that the officer's annual asset statements and income tax returns from 1994 to 2025 were never collected, while the raids on his residence and flat yielded no critical documents. There was no valuation certificate for gold, silver, diamonds and other valuables, despite the possibility of such an assessment by relevant authorities. The investigators also failed to collect call detail records from nodal officers or analyse the call and tower location data of the accused through the hi-tech enquiry cell, it said. No clear distinction was made between legitimate income and alleged unexplained wealth, and the percentage of asset growth over the period was never calculated. It also cited the failure to trace the teak logs allegedly removed from the Malappuram SP office and accused the vigilance of deliberately withholding incriminating evidence. PCMC recovers 167cr property tax in amnesty period
Navi Mumbai: Panvel City Municipal Corporation recovered Rs 167 crore property tax paid by 60,082 property holders. Since the launch of the amnesty scheme, 37,519 property owners have taken 90% fine exemption with a day left (Aug 15) and collectively availed Rs 64.8 crore. A protest was held on Wednesday on the property tax. The scheme was effective from July 18 to Sept 20 but split into four tiers. Those clearing their outstanding property tax between Aug 16 and Aug 31 would get 75% rebate, between Sept 1 and Sept 10 would get 50% discount and from Sept 11 to Sept 20, a 25% waiver of the fine amount. Thousands hit the streets in Panvel to take part in a protest rally covering about 1 km between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and PCMC head office. Seven major political parties besides various social and other forums joined the protest terming the property tax levied as unlawful, impractical and intended to divert public attention. The parties have alleged that despite PCMC being a 'D' class municipal corporation, the property tax levied is equivalent to that of 'A' class civic body like Mumbai.
