Kuwait and Qatar Joint Operation Foils Smuggling of 75,000 Captagon Pills
KUWAIT CITY, Mar 3: A joint security operation between Kuwait's General Department of Narcotics Control and its Qatari counterpart successfully intercepted a large shipment of the psychotropic drug "Captagon," estimated at 75,000 pills. The drugs were expertly concealed inside spare parts of a "dynamo" (generator) following meticulous surveillance.
Authorities received confidential intelligence about a criminal network smuggling significant quantities of Captagon from a European country to the Gulf region, with Kuwait identified as the intended destination. Investigations revealed the shipment was to be transported via air freight. Immediate coordination with Kuwait's General Administration of Customs - Search and Investigation Department led to the monitoring and interception of the shipment.
The operation culminated in the arrest of a Syrian national who was receiving the shipment. Upon inspection, the drugs were found meticulously hidden within the spare parts to evade detection. The suspect confessed to being tasked by a relative residing in a European country to receive and distribute the drugs domestically in exchange for financial compensation.
The seized shipment, totaling approximately 75,000 Captagon pills, was documented, and the suspect, along with the confiscated items, was handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior commended the Qatari security forces for their crucial role in the operation, highlighting the strong security cooperation between the two nations in combating drug smuggling. This collaboration underscores the strategic partnership among Gulf security agencies to safeguard societies from the dangers of illicit drugs.
