Storm Track 3 Forecast: Sunny and warm today, moisture arrives Wednesday
Sunny skies and warmer temperatures will be the case this afternoon as we see highs above average. Highs reach into the 40s and 50s.
Our next system continues to track closer to the Sunflower State, inching slowly eastwards. Rain chances will increase tomorrow afternoon. Moisture will arrive first in southwest Kansas with a wintry mix possible for areas along the Colorado state line.
Showers then track northeast across the state, bringing rainfall to many. Moisture will wrap around the passing low, leading to scattered showers throughout Thursday.
By Friday, the area of low pressure will pull farther east and take moisture with it.
This will leave dry air in place overhead for the weekend with gorgeous temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

Hot and humid weekend with the potential for strong Sunday storms
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Highs in the low 90s this afternoon. Mostly sunny skies to start off the day with a few clouds beginning to develop around lunch time. Chance or isolated shower activity for the afternoon and early evening. Shower chances come to a close ahead of sunset. Saharan dust makes an appearance this Saturday. Milky skies will be seen as the dust particles scatter more of the sunlight. A trough passing through the central U.S. dips southward on Sunday. This is likely to trigger thunderstorm development as early as Sunday afternoon. While this will provide some relief from the heat, they will have have the potential to be strong or even severe. Unlike the rain that we have seen the past few afternoons, Sunday's storm chances will have a different origin, forming from a different reason. The greater upper level support along with our hot and humid environment is what gives these storms on Sunday a bit more potency compared to the 'pop-up' showers we have seen all week. Greater potential for storms will be on the north shore. We turn to a more active weather pattern next week. Many chances for showers and storms. Severe thunderstorms likely on Friday
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Thunderstorms are expected again over Southern Colorado on Friday, and some of them are going to be strong. There's a lot of wind shear in the atmosphere today, and that is going to help storms rotate. When storms spin, they organize and strengthen. The spin in the storm's updraft helps it to stay separate from the downdraft — this often results in large hail, and that is our biggest threat today. Most of the storms will move east, but any that start to turn to the right, and start heading east-southeast or southeast, may become capable of producing a tornado. A severe thunderstorm and/or tornado watch will likely be issued for parts of Eastern Colorado later on today. A WATCH means that ingredients are present for the possible formation of severe thunderstorms, and you should pay attention. Storm Team 3: Back to sizzling heat with strong afternoon storms
Let's have a fabulous Friday! After a 2-week break from 90-degree temperatures, the sizzling heat returns today with highs in the lower 90s. Heat index values will also climb into the upper 90s this afternoon. As of the chance of rain, we can't get rid of it completely due to some lingering moisture from Wednesday's coastal low. The coverage will be lower than the mid-week widespread rain we saw. Only isolated showers and t-storms are possible here and there in the afternoon and evening. Due to the extended threat of severe storms, Sunday has been upgraded to a Weather Aware Day to accompany Saturday's Aware Day. Scattered strong and severe storms are possible across both afternoons and evenings. Not a washout either day, but have a back up indoor plan in case storms head your way. Tomorrow will start dry with muggy temperatures in the lower 70s. Temperatures will quickly jump into the low to mid 90s for highs. Heat index values will be in triple digits. By the early afternoon, scattered storms will begin to fire up. Strong and severe storms are possible through the late afternoon into the overnight hours before rain tapers off. Our main impact will be damaging wind gusts of 60+ mph. Sunday will be a rinse and repeat of Saturday with scattered strong and severe storms possible across the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will once again climb into the mid 90s with feel-like temperatures reaching the triple digits. Stay hydrated and keep an eye on the sky. This weekend will not be a washout. There will be plenty of dry slots to be outside, just keep an eye on the sky. Rain will be heavy at times as well – this could lead to localized street flooding. Saturday and Sunday will be two of the hottest days the year so far with highs reaching the mid 90s outside of rain showers.
