Events held to instil values and foster national unity
PASIR MAS: In a bold step toward strengthening racial harmony, the National Unity Ministry has launched a more comprehensive initiative, the flagship Malaysia Madani Unity Tour, anchored on the principles of the Rukun Negara.
Speaking at the state-level 2025 Unity Week Celebration (SMP) here yesterday, the ministry's deputy secretary-general, Mohamad Sobri Mat Daud, said that a wide array of ongoing and upcoming programmes will aim to foster a deeper sense of unity across Malaysia's diverse society.
'At the heart of every programme we implement are three key values – Understanding, Respect and Acceptance.
'Through these values, we hope Malaysians can continue to create beautiful moments of unity and preserve the harmony and well-being of our communities,' he said, Bernama reported.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Sobri said that SMP also serves as a continuous initiative to educate and nurture Malaysian society in the values of acceptance, mutual respect and civic responsibility under the theme 'Harmony in Diversity', celebrating the beauty of racial, cultural and religious plurality.
He said that Kelantan, often recognised for its strong cultural identity, also offers a unique example of how diverse communities – each with their own customs and traditions – can live harmoniously and celebrate one another's heritage.
Prior to this, the National Unity Ministry announced that Penang has been selected as the host for the national-level SMP, scheduled to take place from July 16 to 20.

Penang to review housing discount for Indian Muslims at next exco meeting
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has agreed to review and discuss the five per cent housing discount for first-time Indian Muslim homebuyers at the upcoming state executive council (exco) meeting. State DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong said he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. "I acknowledge the public feedback regarding the five per cent discount given to the Indian Muslim community for the purchase of unsold property units (overhang) in Penang. "I have discussed this matter with YAB Chow (Kon Yeow), and he has agreed to bring this issue up for review and discussion at the upcoming exco meeting," he said in a statement. As a party founded on the Federal Constitution, Sim said DAP had always championed justice and the welfare of all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion. "It is important for the Penang state government to continue upholding the principle of social justice and to ensure the rights of every Malaysian to own a home are protected," he added. does not involve units under the Bumiputera quota and does not affect any existing home ownership policies. National Youth Day Celebration To Showcase Elements Of ASEAN

Vikneswaran KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- The National Youth Day (HBN) celebration on June 13-15 will be unique as it will showcase elements of ASEAN, in line with Malaysia's Chairmanship of ASEAN 2025. The HBN Secretariat said the programme for the celebration at Dataran Merdeka includes the ASEAN Pavillion and ASEAN Concert to create the spirit of the ASEAN community and strengthen the culture of ASEAN countries among the youth. "The role of youth is seen as vital to strengthening ASEAN's regional network, particularly future collaborations in the fields of economy, leadership, education, technological innovation and social. In fact, youth can also act as junior ambassadors who can elevate the country's image globally,' it said in a statement. Themed "Yakin Boleh' (Believe You Can), the highlight of the 61st HBN celebration will be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will officiate the event and present the 2025 National Premier Youth Award (APBN) on June 14. "The theme illustrates the confidence, capability and competitiveness of the youth in facing challenges, including that of the current digital era. This theme also aligns with the MADANI government's efforts to empower youths through various strategic initiatives as well as the values of confidence within the MADANI framework,' it added. With the targeted presence of 4 million visitors, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN), has activated the HBN celebration at the grassroots level by implementing the Semarak HBN initiative in 113 districts nationwide since May 15. At the national level, the Semarak HBN initiative has been further enlivened by the inclusion of the National Youth Convention; eSports games and activities; career and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) carnivals; as well as programmes on fitness, leadership, arts, music and culture and awareness of mental health and cyberbullying.
