VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has suggested exploring the possibility of establishing a Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam.
He underscored the need to enhance connectivity from airports in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and across the State to various domestic and international cities.
At a review meeting held on Wednesday at the Secretariat at Velagapudi, Chandrababu Naidu assessed the progress of the Vijayawada International Airport terminal construction. Union Minister for Civil Aviation K Ram Mohan Naidu, senior ministry officials, and the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India participated virtually.
The Chief Minister instructed that the terminal's architectural design should be visually striking and unique. He directed airport authorities to ensure that various components like the terminal elevation, departure and arrival blocks, and passenger lounges reflect Andhra Pradesh's rich cultural heritage. He called for elements such as Kuchipudi dance, Kondapalli toys, Amaravati emblems, and Lepakshi art to be incorporated into the design.
He also issued clear instructions regarding the construction of the terminal building, including the ramp connection to the national highway. Additionally, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of terminal works at Kadapa and Rajamahendravaram airports.
Union Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu informed the Chief Minister that technical feasibility studies are underway for new airports at Dagadarthi, Kuppam and Palasa (Srikakulam district). Regarding the proposed Amaravati Airport, the Union Minister said land surveys were in progress and a RITES team will soon submit a report. If land pooling is completed, the project could commence within two years.
Operations at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam airports have grown by nearly 40%, and there is increased interest from operators to expand connectivity from Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram and Kurnool airports.
The Minister also mentioned that TruJet is set to launch services from Visakhapatnam to various locations starting in October, and that international flights between Vijayawada–Singapore and Tirupati–Muscat will commence soon. Seaplane operations are expected to begin after September.
He further informed that the Qatar Aviation Fund has expressed investment interest in the Bhogapuram Airport project.

Pb's devp caused by failure to implement central schemes: Hardeep Puri

Ludhiana: Union minister of petroleum and natural gas, Hardeep Puri , on Thursday, said that Punjab's development had been hindered by the state government's alleged failure to implement people-centric schemes of the central government. Puri, who was in Ludhiana to campaign for party candidate Jiwan Gupta, said that this prevented Punjab residents from receiving benefits available to citizens in other states across the country. Addressing a press conference, Puri emphasised that while India made significant strides in development, including advancements in the space sector, Punjab did not fully benefit from central welfare programmes. He attributed this to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's non-implementation of these initiatives, citing the Ayushman Bharat Healthcare programme as a regrettable example. "All central schemes are available throughout the country but if these schemes aren't implemented in states like Punjab, it's a matter of deep regret," Puri said. Highlighting the achievements of the Union government, the minister said that in 2014, when Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, India's economy was valued at 2 trillion dollars and ranked 10th globally. Since then, India has surpassed the UK to become the fifth largest economy and recently overtook Japan to claim the fourth position, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo According to World Bank assessments, Puri projected that India would surpass Germany within the next year. He also underscored India's robust economic growth rate of 6.5%, which is significantly higher than the approximately 2% growth rates of the UK, Japan, and Germany. This rapid growth, he suggested, positions India to become the world's third-largest economy by 2026, with its current economy standing at 4.3 trillion dollars. Puri also detailed expansion of welfare programmes under the current administration. He noted that the number of LPG cylinder connections in the country had increased from 14 crore in 2014 to over 33 crore today. He specifically mentioned the 2016 launch of the Ujjwala Yojana, which provides LPG cylinders at subsidised prices, primarily benefiting rural areas. Additionally, Puri stated that 4 crore people received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with plans to construct 3 crore more homes across India in the coming years. The minister pointed out that in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, 33% of seats would be reserved for women, a move he described as fostering "women-led development." He also highlighted the significant growth in India's civil aviation sector, with the number of airports increasing from 74 before 2014 to over 150 now. Expressing concern about development in Punjab, Puri said that despite chief minister Bhagwant Mann's election promise to eliminate drugs, little progress was observed. He also criticised the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Puri urged that the BJP's 11-year report card on national achievements be widely disseminated in Punjab, asserting that it would "enthral" people across all sections. He concluded by stating that "governance didn't mean fake promises, but promises shown fulfilled on the ground," citing the AAP's unfulfilled promise of Rs 1,000 per month to women as an example. CM flags off direct flight from city to Abu Dhabi

1 2 3 4 Bhubaneswar: In a boost to international air connectivity, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated direct flight service from Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi on the first anniversary of his govt. The service, operated by IndiGo Airlines from Biju Patnaik International Airport, will run thrice a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The new route, on which the flight can accommodate 180 passengers per trip, will reduce travel time to just four hours between the two cities. Speaking at the event, Majhi said this service, launched under the state's New Destination Policy with support from the Union govt, will strengthen Odisha's ties with middle-eastern countries in trade, tourism, investment, and cultural exchange. With commencement of the flight service to Abu Dhabi, Bhubaneswar is now connected with five international destinations through flight services. These are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok. Flights from Biju Patnaik International Airport also operate to 20 Indian cities. During the inaugural ceremony, Majhi handed over boarding passes to select passengers. The inaugural flight also marked the beginning of cargo services, with 50 tonnes of Amrapali mangoes being exported among other goods. Also, a new domestic route connecting Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam was also launched on Thursday. "The state govt has been actively expanding air connectivity, with successful launches of flights from Bhubaneswar to various domestic destinations," a govt statement reads. It says that new flight services recently commenced to cities like Dehradun, Ghaziabad, Goa, Indore, Kochi, Lucknow, and Port Blair from Bhubaneswar. Besides, Jharsuguda airport has also been connected to major cities like Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Raipur recently. "This development will significantly benefit travellers from Odisha. The service will offer both time and cost advantages while strengthening the state's position in international air travel," it said. Flyers welcome the move. "A lot of people from Odisha travel to foreign destinations. The absence of direct flight services affected us a lot in the past. Now we can save a lot of time and energy with this new service," said Sashank Tripathy, a frequent flyer. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
