EU to discuss proposal to suspend Israel from its research program

LBCI3 days ago
An agenda published by the European Commission showed that Commission members will discuss on Monday a proposal to partially suspend Israel's participation in the EU's Horizon research funding program.
The move comes after several EU member states said last week that Israel is not meeting its obligations under an agreement on humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip. The countries called on the Commission to present concrete options.

Germany says Israel 'increasingly in the minority' on Palestinian issue

Germany's foreign minister said Thursday that Israel was increasingly isolated diplomatically over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the push by some countries to recognise a Palestinian state. Johann Wadephul said in a statement before heading to Israel that the recent U.N. conference on a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict -- boycotted by the U.S. and Israel -- showed that "Israel is finding itself increasingly in the minority." Sweden calls on EU to suspend trade pact with Israel: PM

Sweden on Thursday called on the EU to suspend the trade section of its association agreement with Israel over its conduct of the war in Gaza. "The situation in Gaza is absolutely appalling, and Israel is failing to fulfil its most basic obligations and agreements on emergency aid. Sweden therefore demands that the EU freeze the trade section of the association agreement as soon as possible," Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said in a post to X, calling on the Israeli government to allow "unhindered humanitarian aid into Gaza." Israel rejects Canada plan to recognize Palestinian state: Embassy

Israel on Wednesday condemned Canada's plan to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming U.N. General Assembly, blasting Prime Minister Mark Carney announcement as part of "distorted campaign of international pressure." "Recognizing a Palestinian state in the absence of accountable government, functioning institutions, or benevolent leadership, rewards and legitimizes the monstrous barbarity of Hamas on October 7, 2023," the Israeli embassy in Ottawa said in a statement.
