'We can confirm Ayrton Costa is set to miss the Club World Cup with Boca,' a club spokesperson told Reuters.
'The defender was due to travel on Wednesday night … but did not obtain the visa.'
The US embassy in Buenos Aires was not immediately available to respond to a request for comment emailed outside of normal business hours, it said in an automated reply.
Boca's opening game is against Portuguese side Benfica in Miami on Monday.

Grealish to join Everton on loan
Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has agreed to join Everton on loan for the 2025-26 season, according to reports on Monday. Grealish fell out of favour with City boss Pep Guardiola last season and made just seven starts in the Premier League. The 29-year-old was left out of City's squad for the Club World Cup in the United States amid speculation that he was set to leave the Etihad Stadium. The top seed, who won the Cincinnati final a year ago over Jessica Pegula, increased her lead at the top of the WTA Tour match-win statistics as she secured her 49th of the season. But the struggle was real for Sabalenka, who finished with two aces in the closing stages. "I'm happy to get through this difficult match," Sabalenka said. "I just hope tomorrow is a day off. I need time to recover from such a great battle." Raducanu put up a huge fight, matching Sabalenka throughout. The British number one survived a 25-minute eighth game of the final set, which went to 13 deuces, with Raducanu saving four break points before finally holding for 4-all and eventually into a tiebreaker.
