Russell Brand's Ex-Roommate Says Disgraced Actor Had Different ‘Personality' Take Over When He Did ‘Something Wrong': 'The Eyes Go Dead'
Russell Brand's former roommate believes the disgraced actor and comedian — who is currently facing sex offense charges — had a 'different personality' take over when he did 'something wrong.'
In this week's IMPACT x Nightline episode on Brand's troubled rise to fame and sexual assault allegations, his former roommate sits down with ABC News' Juju Chang for an exclusive interview.
Mark Pinheiro says he 'wasn't surprised' after the news broke in April of Brand being charged with five counts of assault and rape in the U.K. and recalls what it was like living with Brand in London before he made his name in Hollywood.
'If Russell knows he's doing something wrong, something naughty, something illegal, whatever it might be, if you challenge him about it afterwards, this personality would take over, the eyes go dead, the voice goes monotone,' Pinheiro says.

He adds, 'So, it was never him that was doing it, it was this personality that would take over and that's the person that would be doing these things.'
Brand, 49, was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service on April 4 with one count each of rape, indecent assault and oral rape and two counts of sexual assault stemming from allegations from four anonymous women. The alleged incidents occurred between 1999 and 2005. He has denied the allegations.
In a video posted on X last month, he admitted to living a life of debauchery as a younger man, but maintains he never raped anyone.

"I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord," Brand said. "I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile. But what I never was was a rapist."
Brand will appear in Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday, May 2 to answer to the sex offense charges, police have said.

He was first accused of sexual assault in September 2023 when five women spoke about their alleged experiences in a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4 current affairs show Dispatches.
The accusations prompted the Metropolitan Police to conduct an investigation into Brand, culminating in charges being filed against him.

ABC News Suspends Correspondent Terry Moran Over Post Calling Trump Administration Official a 'World-Class Hater'
ABC News has suspended senior national correspondent Terry Moran after the network veteran called Trump administration deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller a 'world-class hater.' Moran posted on X late Saturday night and deleted it not long after. More from The Hollywood Reporter Late Night Erupts With Schadenfreude Over Donald Trump's Feud With Elon Musk: "World War Douche" The Twilight of Evening News: Anchor Swaps, Trust Gaps and a Looming AI Threat Seth Meyers on Finding Joy (and Comedy) in Trump's Second Term 'ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others,' an ABC News spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter. 'The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards — as a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation.' Moran has been with ABC News since 1997, covering events like 9/11 the Iraq war and multiple presidential elections. He even interviewed President Trump in the Oval Office just over a month ago. But after his post, White House officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, ripped into the journalist for his take (Leavitt called it 'unhinged and unacceptable') and demanded that ABC News take action. 'The thing about Stephen Miller is not that he is the brains behind Trumpism,' Moran wrote in his since-deleted post. 'Yes, he is one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy. But that's not what's interesting about Miller. It's not brains. It's bile. Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He's a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate. Trump is a world-class hater. But his hatred only a means to an end, and that end his his own glorification. That's his spiritual nourishment.' Terry Moran Suspended at ABC News After Posting That White House Deputy Chief Stephen Miller Is a ‘World-Class Hater'
ABC News suspended its senior national correspondent, Terry Moran, after he called White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller a 'world-class hater' in a since-deleted post on X. 'ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others,' an ABC News spokesperson said in a statement. 'The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards — as a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation.' In it, he wrote that Miller is 'one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy,' and operates not on 'brains' but on 'bile.' 'Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred,' Moran wrote. 'He's a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate.' The post, in which a veteran anchor veered into opinion rather than reportage or analysis of facts, is still seen as a breach of standards by many news organizations, despite the proliferation of opinion-led programs on cable networks such as MSNBC or Fox News Channel. Moran has been called in the past to report on politics, and secured a coveted interview with President Donald Trump in April that won plaudits. His commentary on Miller could be seen as undermining ABC News' objectivity in coverage of White House matters. The Disney-backed news unit has already tangled with Trump in recent months. Disney in December agreed to pay $15 million to settle a defamation lawsuit Trump filed against ABC News after anchoor George Stephanopoulos erroneously said Trump had been found guilty of rape in a civil sexual abuse judgement brought in a case by writer E. Jean Carroll. Carroll prevailed in the case, though Trump denied wrongdoing. Moran's post prompted a response from Miller on X. He wrote Sunday morning, 'The most important fact about Terry's full public meltdown is what it shows about the corporate press in America. For decades, the privileged anchors and reporters narrating and gatekeeping our society have been radicals adopting a journalist's pose. Terry pulled off his mask.' Vice President JD Vance also weighed in, writing on X that he knows Miller 'quite well,' and that he knows he is 'motivated by love of country.' He added that Miller is also motivated by 'fear that people like Terry Moran make rules that normal Americans have to follow, but well connected people don't.' 'It's why he fought so hard to get President Trump elected and why he works to hard to implement the agenda,' Vance added. 'ABC should apologize to Stephen. What Terry posted is disgraceful.'
